Mayne Event,
From your question on the Kohawks and BV,
2000 at Coe - BV 28 - Coe 26
2003 at Coe - BV 31 - Coe 21
In the last 10 years, I don't believe BV has beat Coe at home, those wins listed above are the only two I could find, but they were in Cedar Rapids.

I didn't think they had lost in a few years, but it is also different becasue they flip the schedule every 2 years instead of every year like all the other teams because of the travel distance.  Thanks for clarifying that.

The best Wartburg/Luther shirts that I remember were a Knight football player "relieving" himself on a Luther football player the year after a bunch of Wartburg students crashed the Luther homecoming parade. The shirt read. "Didn't mean to rain on your parade."
Other ones that got chuckles from me
Homecoming 2003-The Storm Blows
Homecoming 2005-If you can't play for Wartburg go to Coe

Also-My freshmen year we organized our rooms to have everyone put a letter in their window of Clinton 3. (The dorm that runs along the East side of the football field)
The letters spelled out LUTHER SUCKS.
Not inventive I know-but we were only freshmen at the time so thought it was pretty cool.

Other great moments in Wartburg/Luther-
Bo Harris breaking up a pass and Randy Laing knocking a reciever flat in the red zone to preserve a 20-17 victory in 1999
Jake Olsen hitting a layup at the buzzer to win the home basketball game against Luther in 2000 and the crowd storms the court.
Brianne Schoonover hitting a half-court shot at the buzzer after losing control of the ball and throwing it overhand at the hoop to beat Luther in 2001-Made ESPN's plays of the week.

2002-People think Luther has arrived and we head up there for there homecoming and win in a laugher. I sat out the hole second half to nurse a bad ankle and watched a huge ORANGE section on the home sidelines going nuts.

2003 basketball game-Luther fans show up with a sign "Your dads work for our dads" A couple minutes later a Wartburg student comes in with a sign "Your moms work for us"

You forgot to mention the vandalism in 2002 by Wartburg on the PRIVATE property of coaches and staff of Luther when the Knights decided to spray paint "WARTBURG KNIGHTS" on vehicles in the Regents Center staff parking lot.  Ironically, they messed up by painting the W and the K on the same car, so it didn't really read correctly.  I guess you can credit that to a Wartburg education... ;)

Now before any of the Knight supporters start chiming in and saying "Luther started it" and blah, blah, blah...Luther students did start it and they vandalized the school, which I am NOT condoning.  I have always told all of my athletes not to break the law.  And there were NO football players involved.  However, the main difference between the two pranks is that when Wartburg retaliated, they retaliated against individuals NOT involved in any form with the prank that happened in Waverly.  Wartburg vandalized private property of coaches and staff that work at Luther College.  Not funny or cool.  That's all I am gonna say about that.

The shirts, the signs, the chants, the taunts, etc that go back and forth between rivals is great.  I am all for rivalry and the gamesmenship that goes on between rivals.  The "Your Moms Works for Us" sign was a classic and I laughed because I could see it coming once the Luther students brought their signs out.  And Wartburg has every right to brag, be confident, etc because, like it or not, they have been the team to beat in the conference for much of recent history.

Go Norse!!!

And for the record, I am just playing around here Wartburg grads...a college education is a great thing to have and a great accomplishment no matter what school issued the degree  :)  I mean no offense by it, its just rivalry week.

Walston,
Sorry for the sour grapes here, and I truely am, but BV deserves to be mentioned in their win over Wartburg in 04, on that last second FG.  So one of the few losses Wartburg had in the last 8 years.

Sorry about that, I was thinking it but didn't type it. That was a bad day all around for me driving back from Storm Lake after calling it on the radio.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Didn't mention it because it was not in the spirit of the rivalry. Personally I don't think one's any worse than the other, but that's not saying that either was good. Any time damage to property is involved, the line has been crossed. I'm not a fan at all of the legends of letters being burned into fields either. I know HS coaches that have had it done to their fields and it literally takes years to get it out.

I couldn't agree more, Walston...and what do you know?  A Luther grad and a Wartburg grad seeing eye to eye on something  :D

These go back before my time at Wartburg, but back in the late 90's a Wartburg student rented a small plane and dropped Wartburg leaflets over the Luther campus.  Then in the fall of 98, students from Wartburg's radio station "crashed" the Luther Homecoming parade under the guise of the Lanesboro, MN Nature Enthusiasts Club and "cut the cake" in front of the judging stand.  Good stuff.

More of my memories to come...

Was Cornell any good when they were in the MWC?  It seems Coe has adjusted well to the IIAC competition, while Cornell has struggled.  I sense there is a difference between the MWC way of doing things and the IIAC way.  How did the two schools compare when they were together in the MWC?

Yes in the MWC Cornell was consistently good.  I think something like 10 or 11 conference championships. Coe has definitely made the better adjustment or made it more quickly than Cornell. I believe Cornell is starting to do some things they should have done back in 1997. Anyway when Cornell and Coe were both in the MWC they always played in the last game of the season which was usually the Conference championship.

One big difference between the MWC and the IIAC is that MWC coaches weren't allowed to recruit off campus. That had to be a serious handicap. As for Coe and Cornell, they were both among the better MWC football programs. In the "modern era" (say, 1970-95) Coe won or shared 8 conference titles compared to 6 for Cornell. In the last six year's of their MWC affiliation, the conference champions went like this: 1990 Coe, 1991 Coe, 1992 Cornell, 1993 Coe, 1994 Coe, 1995 Cornell.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Mayne - I didn't mean to sound like I was trying to prove anything or you wrong.  I was also just curious and following up your question when was the last time BV beat Coe at home, and from the looks of it BV hasn't beat Coe at home.  Sorry if it came off as a negative comment to you.

The entry in Luther parade was THE Outdoor Nature Enthusiasts  "THE ONE".  It also helps to have a Luther student - sibling of a participant as an insider to get the entry into the parade.  A great "no property damage" prank.

While we are mentioning spray paint. As one who had to clean up BLUE LC's all over campus in 2002, let's not forget the time Luther students came on Thursday night of Homecoming week. And Wartburg wasn't even playing  Luther that weekend.  The actions on both campus were stupid and really hurt the fun the rivalry was 15 -20 years ago.

Let's home the "well educated student" at both schools use the intelligence they have.
