The first one came to WC for Comm Arts, the younger went to LC for music.

I'm in Waverly, married to a LC alum, with son @ WC and daughter not looking @ WC but is considering LC.  Either place they'll get a good edumaction. WC was right for one but doesn't do as well as what the other is looking for and the other place has better feel for her.

Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

I heard from one of the coaches at Luther this week and I heard an amazing stat and wanted to throw it out on the board for anyone who is interested:

Luther Defense: 15 knockdowns and 0 sacks.

Lots of pressure from the Norse without a lot to show for it...credit must be given to Central's QB and receiving corps for executing under pressure and making plays.

If Luther can get that kind of pressure on Yordi and turn that pressure into turnovers or incompletions, then I like the Norse's chances to win on Saturday.  But, the pressure has to be there and it has cause the passing game of the Knights to falter.
Go Norse!!!

I was bored and found Cornells all-time series records against the teams in the conference.
If anybody else can find their teams all-time series records vs the conference opponents go ahead and post them!

Simpson 22-16-1
Dubuque 12-4-2
Buena Vista 8-8
Loras 3-10
Central 1-15
Luther 5-5
Wartburg 2-13
Coe 51-61-4

Walston Hoover

Wartburg leads the all-time series against Cornell 13-2   ;D
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Ash Park

wow i wonder where you found that stat....maybe 13-3 after a cornell upset this year?? ;D

dblj21,

I had two sons go to 2 different IIAC schools.  One attended Wartburg and the other is at Central.  I can tell you it makes for interesting times at home this time of year.

2004,
I bet that will make it very interesting this year, especially when they square off this fall.  I am just glad that my brother and I both graduated from the same school, otherwise the trash talking would be non-stop  :)

It sounds, from what I heard, like Central's o-line didn't do a great job protecting the QB, but the Dutch still executed the passing attack despite the pressure from the Norse.

Did the Dutch run a lot of short, quick routes?  Did they audible or make hot reads at the line or were the offensive play calls perfect for the defensive play calls?
Go Norse!!!

Actually, due to a disputed game in 1902, there is a discrepancy between each school's records of the oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi. Coe records show the Kohawks lead the series 62-50-4. Coe has beaten Cornell seven straight times.

Here's Coe's all-time record (and current streak) vs. other conference schools:
Simpson 19-12 (won 4) includes last week's game
BV 6-6 (won 3)
Dubuque 13-2-1 (won 2)
Central 6-9-2 (lost 1)
Wartburg 8-17 (lost 3)
Luther 10-3 (won 2)
Loras 7-6-1 (lost 1)
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Central 9   Coe 6 (2 ties)

I'll have to find my original source but I showed Dubuque with a 6-9-2 record against Cornell and a 2-13-1 record against Coe.  And that was before last years games I think.

Ah hell here is Dubuque against all conference teams

BV - 21-47-0
Central 16-49-2
Coe 2-13-1
Cornell  6-9-2
Loras 6-24-1
Luther 18-48-6
Simpson 22-32-3
Wartburg 26-37-1

Take into account Dubuque doesn't have more than something like 3 wins against any conference opponant over the last 20 years.  I also say bring back some of the old IIAC teams.

Dubuque's record against...

Upper Iowa 34-31-1
William Penn 32-20-0
Iowa Wesleyan 23-6

Interesting how the numbers differ from school to school just a little bit.

I'm just going by what Cornell has on their website

dblj21,

I don't think that they were short passes all that much.  Here are the results off the IIAC site.  4 TD passes for 12 yds, 27 yds, 19 yds, and 84 yds.

Receivers

Smith 5 catches 126 yds avg 25.2 yds per catch

Huisman  4-88 or 22 yds per catch

Craft  2-35 or 17.5 per catch

Nero 1-12

Waugh 1-4

17-34 300 yds or 17.65 per catch  or 8.8 yds per throw.
If that helps you out.

Should we just give each school a half a win so we can all be happy  ;D

I was going by the UD media guide from last year.  Interesting how each of the schools info differs from each of the other schools over time.

Charlie,

you peaked my curiousity on this.  Do you know the story behind the dispute.  I would like to hear about it just for the record.  I think those old stories are interesting from a fans and historic point of view.
