According to the radio announcer's the wind was very strong at Dubuque on Saturday. One of the kickers( I think it was UD's) kicked an 18 yard punt into the wind.

wow this is rediculous  -4 in one day for one post that congratulated the winners.  The Karma bandits are a joke.

Congrats to all the winners yesterday I was wondering how the BV - Central game went yesterday? I wasn't able to catch it on the radio. I think I saw that BV was winning after the 1st quarter but what happened after that?

old school ENP Tiger

BV/Central game was I'm sure like all the games this Saturday Whomever had the wind scored.  BV had the wind in the first and put up a TD.  Central got the wind in the second. and scored 3 TD passes 2, 22,26.  Central got the wind in the 3rd and put up ten more.  QB option keep and drove to the 2 and kicked a field goal.  at 31-7 Central tried to sit on the ball and run the clock.  BV was stacking the line to stop the run pretty much the entire game and they accomplished that.  On offense Hawkins seemed to throw the ball 1 way Hard...  Probably trying to cut down on the wind factor by doing that but overshot a few recievers and had some drops.  Neither team could convert 1st downs very well against the wind BV took care of the ball no turnovers but only got 3.5 yards per play as compared to Central's 5.5.  There was one punt of BV's that went maybe 5 yards into the wind.  set up a short field.

An observation from my old man on Saturday: The injury list for the defense is as follows. D. Baethke, Lehn, Ryan Thompson, Rasmussen. Thats a lot of defensive talent on the sidelines, which could explain the defensive performance against Luther and Loras. Right there you have three starters and a 12th player. Good to see Schuring back on the field, even if it is in a limited role. DutchFan, my dad also said Connell was helped off the field in the fourth. Is it serious or just slightly banged up?

Sounds like we had another good weekend in IIAC football...hope everyone that went down on Saturday is OK  :)  Congrats to all the victors on Saturday.

Heys, ramfan, Ash...you guys have every reason to be excited about your football team.  From what I've heard and read, the Rams played a very good second half after making some good adjustments at half time and almost came back to win.  Cornell just needs to learn how to play 4 quarters, and they will.  Dillon seems to have them going in the right direction and he has a great perspective on the game.  It will only be a matter of time before the Rams are winning more regularly and possibly competing with the top teams in the conference (Wartburg and Central).  Luther was in the same situation when Hefty took over in 2002...they aren't challenging for conference championships yet...but they are able to compete every Saturday with opportunities to win.  Dillon will have Cornell in that situation soon.  Maybe too soon for the rest of the IIAC  ;)

Observations:

1) UD will have a nice facility when this building project is completed.  I just hope they keep the charm of Chalmers field.  I still think it is the nicest setting in the IIAC.  I know most fans would vote for Luther, Loras or BV, but I like Chalmers field.

2) I was disappointed in the size of the crowd.  I thought an undefeated Spartan team would bring out more people.  I don't think I'm stretching the truth too much to say almost half the crowd was wearing orange instead of blue.  (I don't think there were that many Spartan fans going hunting after the game.)

3) I was ready to call for a coaching change after the first two Spartan drives.  Oh my, it looked like a long day.  To their credit the Knight coaching staff must have made some changes that turned the tide.

4) In the second half the Spartans looked gassed.  Wartburg still looked as though you could hook them up to the plow and put away another ten acres.  Either the Knights are in better shape or all that substituting was keeping people fresh.

5) On Sunday we were in Waterloo checking in on our future Knight volleyball player.  We went to lunch at the Fainting Goat in Waverly then went over to campus.  The football team was gathering for their Sunday sing along as we were walking around.  Nobody seemed too worse for the wear.  I hope they can continue to stay healthy.  Avoiding a bunch of major injuries seems to be a key to staying competitive.

6) Honoring the 15 straight IIAC conference wrestling championships during half time of the Augsburg game seems a little strange.  Of all the sports fans that follow D3, Augsburg would be the least impressed with that run, they have won more national titles during that stretch than the Knights.

The injury bug has taken a toll on the Dutch so far this season. Sounds like people are beginning to come back in the next week or two. We need to improve every week.

Sounds like a good game by Cornell today! Slowing down to almost stopping Sherden and just allowing like what...6 field goals. Good job by the rams!

Personally Chalmers was one of my least favorite places to play...its funny how everyone has their own opinions. Luther was always nice but everytime I was up there it was cold and rainy it seemed like. That and Im partial to Schipper Stadium:)

He ran a QB Draw and when he got tackled he got the wind knocked out of him.  I don't think, if memory serves that he was helped off the field but he was on the ground for awhile.  He is ok.  Tuff kid.

I have been a Central fan for a long time but the last two years have been the only times that I have looked forward to seeing them have to punt.  I'm pretty sure the Central punter put BV down twice inside the twenty kicking into the wind.  And, he was much better going with it except for the one time he had about a sixty yarder go into the end zone.  I almost booed (just kidding karma bandit).

Fannosaurus rex,

That punt was high that you talked about.  The wind took that.  I thought for a moment he may catch the sideline and go out but the wind just kept it hanging up there.  He is a great find.  VerMeer was a great punter and would not have wanted any other the last two years, but Brondyke sure has made you forget that you had the all conference punter the last two seasons and lost him to graduation.  He picked up where VerMeer left off.  Good coaching will do that for you.  The kicking game in general has been good.  Only two extra points missed I believe and all the kickers/punters are freshman.  Get these kids with Coach Anderson for the next three years and look out.

DutchFan, glad to hear Tim was okay. My dad was probably chasing my little brother around so he may not have seen how he got off the field. When I was playing, he would take some real big hits and just get right back up. Amazing. I'm beating a dead horse but this program owes a ton of its success to Coach Anderson. Without hi,m, I don't know where the program would be. It was because of his program that I was able to recover from a serious injury in just 8 months. Great guy, great coach.

I don't know if 18 carries for 98 yards and 1 TD in just 2 quarters of work qualifies as "slowing down" Sherden...5.4 yards per carry is pretty darn good in any league, but Cornell definitely played well.  And the injury bug is rearing its ugly head all-over the place in the IIAC, but it seems to follow the Dutch around every weekend.

I personally liked the view from Chalmers Field.  On a clear day, you can just see for miles and miles...makes you feel like you are on top of the world  :)

Sounds like the Rams put up a good fight.  Hopefully they can turn these improvements into W's.  It would be nice to have some things to show in W/L column when they go on the recruiting trail.  Sherden is a horse, I never did catch why he only played two quarters but it obviously gave the Rams a boost.  He's the only guy that even when I tackled low he still made me see stars.  Toughest runner I ever played against.  I was going to try and make it for as much of the Cornell-Luther game as I could after the Iowa game, but I was so dis-heartened after the Hawkeye debacle I just stayed in Iowa City and drowned my sorrows.  Congrats to all the winners.  And I would have to say the Rock Bowl was my favorite place to play, but both times I played at Chalmers it was snowy and about 20 degrees, that might have had something to do with it.
