The Show

Klopenheimer - BV was just that dominate.  Hawkins was on and had enough time to throw and could wait for the routes to develop.  I didn't make the Central game, but from what I heard about that game, it looked like it was identical to what happened today, except BV was in Central's positon...  Cornell was pinned deep a couple times early and had to punt into the wind which set up a short field for BV.

Coe let one get away today. No offense to Dubuque, which has a very nice team and seemed more mature than Spartan squads of the past, but Coe could have sealed the win with a first down on either of their last two possessions in regulation. Even then, Dubuque needed a fourth-down touchdown to send the game to overtime. I'm disappointed especially for Jeremy Squires, who had an outstanding game with two key interceptions and several bone-rattling hits. It's not the end of the world, tonight it just feels that way. We'll learn more about this team by how they respond to this loss than we would if they had pulled out the win. The journey doesn't get any easier -- with back to back road games at Central and Wartburg -- but there's still a lot of football to be played.

Storm-what?

Simpson did have a pretty tough time shutting down the passing game against Central. Not huge plays, but just consistent. The QB seemed to have forever to get his pass off! Simpson had more total offense, which was the surprise of the day for me coming in to the game. Over 400 yards- finally got a few things going offensively. Definitely would have been nice to get that one or two more scores from the redzone. But, Central had the confidence and experience, and sometimes that's what it takes to make the big plays and win the big games.
4 interceptions thrown by Simpson .... that did hurt!

Oh, and I called the UD/Coe game!  ;)

This is what you get when a team gets cocky and thinks they just need to show up.  Wartburg not only lost a game they should have won, they possibly screwed things up for our entire conference.  If one of our "better" teams can't win a home game against a "lower" team from the MIAC, well we probably don't deserve two entries in the playoffs.

Mrs. Warthog and I were at a wedding in Minneapolis Friday night watching Little Warthog perform groomsman duties. I guess it was fortunate we decided to spend today knocking around the Twin Cities.  I was able to miss this embarrassing showing by a group of individuals trying to pass themselves off as a Wartburg football team.

As we were heading down I-35 towards Des Moines I checked in with one of my sources just to find out whether the Knights chose to run up the score on Augsburg.  Oops!  In at least one person's opinion the Knights played with a complete void of emotion or spirit.   Even though Augsburg was staying close and eventually took the lead, I was told it looked as if the Knights were just going through the motions.

The bottom line is, the sun will come up tomorrow and all will be good with the world.  For the fans today was just another game.  Unfortunately,  the Wartburg players and coaches cheated themselves.  They had an opportunity to be one of the few special teams we have ever had at Wartburg.  Now they simply have a chance to be another pretty good squad.

The glass is half full way to look at it for Wartburg is they still haven't lost an IIAC game this season.  Win the rest and they are in the playoffs.

Airborne Dutch

Congratulations to all the winners today. Dutch fans, we should not have been surprised by the scoreboard. Simpson always plays us tough. At least we came out with the W. Tough luck to Wartburg. Sounds like the D played tough but the offense couldn't put it together. Kind of the same tune that Iowa has been playing all year. I think next weeks Central-Coe game is going to be really telling if we are a legit top-10 team or have been getting lucky. I just have gut feeling that our lack of a running game is going to get us one game. Of course, I have been proven wrong many times before.

Old Dutch

Wow, what a shocker for the Warts today!  that is seriously disappointing, because ot does hurt our possibilities in playoffs.  It also shows some vulnerability there.

The Dutch finally getting into the meat of the conerence next week and it still sounds like they have some work to do.  I didn't make it down, but it sounds like another bend but don't break till you get the turnover game for the D.  Also another gret game for Connell and his receivers.  The Hawks could pobably use a couple of 'em.  TV highlights show a Schuring like run for Zachary - I think he can be the man if we can get some blocking for him.  Did Schuring play at all, or just used lightly like last week??

Speaking of TV - Props to Channel 13 for a feature bit on the pleasures of D3 football, with some good interviews down at Buxton Stadium!!  Maybe my emails to sound off are being read if not shared with the viewers.  Good showing by Luther and BV today, congrats, and to DBQ for the big win, that had to be a great game.

I'm almost speechless after today. Congrats to BV for playing a solid game of football. BV showed up to play football and Cornell did not. It is basically as simple as that. That was not the same Cornell team that played against Loras or Luther, but then again that probably wasn't the same BV team that played against Central or Wartburg. By the way MNBeev show me a post where someone said that Cornell was an awesome team. I sure hope those kids for Cornell stay together. They were doing a good job of improving and being competitive, but today was obviously a huge bump in the road for them. It will be interesting to see how they respond to some big time adversity. Again congrats to BV and all the other IIAC winners. The shinerbock tastes horrible after a butt whippin like that...may have to switch to somethign a little more stiff to take the pain away  :(

No offense to the IIAC but if Wartburg losses at home to Augsburg, do the rest of us a favor in DIII and as a conference give up your automatic bid.

A little arrogant in MN...Central is still undefeated. Coe, Dubuque and Wartburg still only have 1 loss each, all in conference.  Worry about taking care of YOUR business, SJU09...we will worry about ours  :)

Great game at Carlson stadium saturday, although I could have used some tanning lotion.  Norse D looked great.  O moved the ball well we just need to punch in more TD's.  Interesting results around the IIAC this week.  Props to Simpson for hanging in there and to BV for rolling.

And Bethel which is 4-0 in the MIAC 5-1 overall lost to Buena Vista which is 1-3 in the IIAC this season with their only conference win against Cornell which hasn't won against an IIAC opponant since 2005.  We'll give up our automatic bid after the MIAC gives up theirs!!!

Congrats to the victors!!!!

The Norse defense showed up...maybe they have figured something out and have turned a corner and we could see a typical Luther defense.  I love that the front line can get pressure and get sacks on the QB.  Pressure makes life a whole lot easier for those DB's, who have the toughest job on the field on the defensive side of the ball.  And our DB's made plays.  Nice job Norse...maybe next week we can put a complete game together...Offense, defense and special teams  :)

sportsknight, Walston, warthog and all other Knight supporters: have the Knights ever played a game like they did on Saturday without "spirit or emotion" (quoted from warthog)?  Does that lack of energy fall on the coaching staff or the players?

Go Norse!!!
