No offense to the IIAC but if Wartburg losses at home to Augsburg, do the rest of us a favor in DIII and as a conference give up your automatic bid.

And Bethel which is 4-0 in the MIAC 5-1 overall lost to Buena Vista which is 1-3 in the IIAC this season with their only conference win against Cornell which hasn't won against an IIAC opponant since 2005.  We'll give up our automatic bid after the MIAC gives up theirs!!!

dbjay.....how did curie do?  Looks like varsity is mid pack and has chance to get to the playoffs.

Curie Condors ruined Steinmetz's homecoming 42-8...we were up 34-0 at half, scored on our first possession of the second half and had running clock.  Second team D gave up the points on the last play of regulation.  We qualified for the City Playoffs but we need help to win conference.  Young is undefeated and they play Lincoln Park, who hasn't scored a TD in conference...and we need to beat Lane to finish in second by ourselves.

My freshman won on Saturday 18-16 against Austin.  Defensive TD won the game for us...middle linebacker returned a fumble to the house with under 2 to play.  My guys NEVER quit  ;D

Congrats on your coaching dbljay,  nice to see all the hard work you and your team put in during the year paying off now.

Useless possible trivia.  I believe I read that the football field at Lane was where they filmed the movie Wildcats with Goldie Hawn and Woody Harrelson.  Not positive on that one though.

warthog your connection at the game Saturaday was right on the money, no emotion what so ever from the players to the coach's. They thought all they had to do was show up for 4 qts and go home with a victory without playing . I didn't see one coach get on the players on the sidelines for the way they were playing. There better be some soul searching this week from everyone involved.

Coe let one get away today. No offense to Dubuque, which has a very nice team and seemed more mature than Spartan squads of the past, but Coe could have sealed the win with a first down on either of their last two possessions in regulation. Even then, Dubuque needed a fourth-down touchdown to send the game to overtime. I'm disappointed especially for Jeremy Squires, who had an outstanding game with two key interceptions and several bone-rattling hits. It's not the end of the world, tonight it just feels that way. We'll learn more about this team by how they respond to this loss than we would if they had pulled out the win. The journey doesn't get any easier -- with back to back road games at Central and Wartburg -- but there's still a lot of football to be played.

In my opinion from listening to the game,  UD had other opportunities to score and turnovers and mistakes let coe hang in there. The better team clearly won today and a tremendous comeback effort.  If I heard correctly, UD had only 2 or 3 penalties all game to Coe's 9 or 10. Yes, I would certainly say UD was "more mature". And great effort by the spartan defense which came up with big stops when they needed to and overcame adversity to secure the win. Great leadership and never say die attitude.

I agree, its not like the MIAC has a whole lot of room to talk...no offense to BV but come on. Its not like SJU is killing people this year. They got lucky to beat Carleton and were down to ST Olaf yesterday.

It is a big dissapointment for the IIAC, losing at Wartburg. But lets hope for the best. Central has to knock off a good Coe team at home next week. I say game of the week! Go Dutch!

One89.1, VanRees coame out in the 2qt limping it didn't look that serious as he was running on the sidelines, they retaped his ankle, but after the half they had ice on it and he didn't play the rest of the game. One bright stop on the Wartburg team Saturday was Alex Boom (soph, running back) he looked real good after missing the first 4 games with an injury.

The Show

BV didn't exactly start out with the cupcake portion of the IIAC schedule...

With UD traveling to Storm Lake this year, the Beavers still have a shot at finishing 7-3.

Wow, what a shocker for the Warts today!  that is seriously disappointing, because ot does hurt our possibilities in playoffs.  It also shows some vulnerability there.

The Dutch finally getting into the meat of the conerence next week and it still sounds like they have some work to do.  I didn't make it down, but it sounds like another bend but don't break till you get the turnover game for the D.  Also another gret game for Connell and his receivers.  The Hawks could pobably use a couple of 'em.  TV highlights show a Schuring like run for Zachary - I think he can be the man if we can get some blocking for him.  Did Schuring play at all, or just used lightly like last week??

Speaking of TV - Props to Channel 13 for a feature bit on the pleasures of D3 football, with some good interviews down at Buxton Stadium!!  Maybe my emails to sound off are being read if not shared with the viewers.  Good showing by Luther and BV today, congrats, and to DBQ for the big win, that had to be a great game.

Schuring started and Central tried to give him quite a few opportunities to get going.  He left in the first quarter.  Just my opinion but it just seems that Central at times forgets that it is a passing team this year.  Most of the first half saw run left run right pass on third and 8 and punt.  That is what killed Central last year against SJU.

I'm sure its no surprise to anyone that has watched a Central game this year that the offensive line can not run block....They do well slowing rushers down for pass block but fireing off the ball and getting to the linebackers isn't something they do.

Central was definitely on upset alert on saturday when at times it looked like they were going through the motions and they were going to win just because they are Central.  Turned the ball over too much.  Twice the center didn't get the snap off of the ground.  Simpson had the game in hand in the 2nd quarter going in to score with an interception.  Had the ball on the 5 to go up 14-0 instead they were down 7-14 at half with the aid of another INT for a touchdown with a minute left.  also had the ball on the 5 and fumbled going in for the tie  at 28-21.

I was surprised Simpson didn't bring more fans for homecomming.  Seemed two years ago when the game was on Mediacom they had quite a few more.  I'm personally ready for for football weather.  90s halfway through the season isn't Iowa football

Agreed, a bad loss for the IIAC, in Waverly. Way to early to give up on a 2nd bid. The WIAC and MIAC are nowhere near done beating up on each other either. LaCrosse sits 0-2 as one of the favorites in the WIAC. The hard part now is cheering for St. Johns to run the table.

dbljay-I think we are working with a different type of kids-My sophs were up 35-0 at the end of the first quarter on Thursday night.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

footballdaddy

WOW!
I had a night to sleep on it,and I still can't believe the Knights yesterday.

On offense, too many 3rd and longs leading to too many passes at receiver's feet

On defense, letting the QB escape pressure to complete passes, and some very poor tackling.

Maybe this is ablessing in disguise. This will force Wartburg to refocus and get tough. They just have to run the table in conference to make the playoffs.

Big win by my club yesterday.  Everything I had gathered the Wartburg D was supposed to be the "be all-end all." I didn't make the trip down for yesterdays game, but after seeing the stats was surprised to see how many yards Augsburg's O racked up against your guys' Defense.  I had heard a lot about the size and speed of the Knight D, but they still gave up a lot of yards, even on the ground which has never been our strength.  What happened?  Like I said, I wasn't at the game, and therefore don't know what the breakdowns were.  Did most of Augsburg's yardage come in those last couple of drives in the 4th quarter?  I did see that Jordan (Berg) threw a few picks and maybe we were able to rack up some yardage that didn't translate into points.  Who is the guy that one of you Knight fans referenced being on crutches?  I just don't follow the IIAC that much, and have been so busy this past week, didn't have the opportunity to research the Wartburg squad.  Did his absence really hurt the Knights?  And, does your safety that had the pick 6 routinely play both ways to account for both scores for you guys?

I'm in no way attempting to gloat, more than anything, I'm shocked as well.  From all info I had gathered, I did not see yesterday's outcome either.  But, as a point, the big points given up, that one other IIAC poster had referenced were to two teams that are nationally ranked, with many key returning players on offense, and to another team that has made it the the national playoffs recently.  I've said since the beginning, my Augsburg squad is still in the growing up phase.  We were bad the last three years (the years I played there), but fortunately have kept on working.  Coach Haege is starting to get some good players in there, and we've been making the weightroom a committed part of Augsburg football.  I wouldn't predict for our guys to win the National playoffs in the next few years, but we're becoming a better football team and program.  We just need some more success to build on, and yesterday's win is a huge boost for our team this year and for our program for the years to come.  Good job, Auggies, it was a win that we needed!
Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?
