Does BV have a "rival"?  They are out there in western Iowa with no IIAC school geographically close enough to call a "rival" but I would I like to see the other 4 rivalries create a traveling trophy.

I guess we don't have a particular rival but I've heard that in the past it was the Dutch and as of late I know it has become Wartburg.

It could also have been the peacocks back when they still were in the IIAC

So last week Dubuque was the KoHawks homecoming opponant.  This week Dubuque is Cornells homecoming opponant and in 2005 Dubuque was Cornells homecoming opponant as well.

Have teams been loading up on Dubuque as a homecoming opponant recently figuring they had a good chance of winning their homecoming game against a bottom feeder or is it just luck of the draw???

Cornell had Central last year for their Homecoming. I think it has more to do with logistics than opponants.

Was that a real rivalry or did people just like to call it the "porno bowl" because of the names???

And I would love it if all the teams ended the season with the rivalry game.  That way you could have your homecoming game in the middle of the season and this game at the end to have 2 big games a bit spread out.  It would certainly give coaches in the running for a conference championship gray hairs or could save a coach a job from a struggling team if they beat their rival to end the season.

That is how it appears Luther does it as well in recent years.  B.V. is the homecoming opponent this year as they were in 2003, but off the top of my head Central was the homecoming game in 2004 (?) and 2006 while Simpson was the homecoming game in 2005.  All of the games were at about the same point in the season.

Win or lose, most of the games listed above were very close.  It's going to be a tough game as well this Saturday.

At this point anything is possible for the top 3 or 4 teams. I could see Wartburg losing 2 more times easily as well as Central running the table, Coe running the table, Dubuque could do it. Its wide open right now. After last week I dont know if I see Wartburg able to win out as easily as I once thought, havent seen Dubuque yet but they are a legitimate contender. Well see about Coe this weekend.

Ill throw in my scenario
Central gets completely healthy and wins out.
Coe loses to Central, loses Wartburg and wins their other games.
Wartburg loses to Central but beats Coe, and Loras.
Dubuque loses to Central but wins the rest of theirs as well.
This puts the IIAC with only one playoff rep again...sad enough to say.

.....Homecoming game selection.

Luther selects as Homecoming the home game that is closest to Founders Day, October 14, whomsoever the opponent might be.  This year it is BV, last year it was Central on Oct. 7.

Where's DF1? You guys need her input. As I recall, over the past few years, she consistently does very well in her predictions.

That must be it.  I bet she shows up at the game this weekend. It should be a barnburner.

I think that would be an awesome idea.  As long as you could work scheduling out...it would definitely make each team play at their highest level for the final game of the year despite their record.  Either playing for pride or a chance for the playoffs.

Congrats to BV's Hawkins, Central's WR Josh Smith, and Cornell's Chris Gustafson for making the D3football Team of the Week.  Hurts to see Augsburg have a player on their after the win over the Knights.  I was talking with our sports director over the ride back from the Bears/Packers game (GO BEARS!) and he said he really isn't a fan of the TOW.  I think it was mentioned on here before that SID's send in their nominations for the team...who picks from there?  how many SID's actually submit?  Anyone have any answers for this?

I think Wartburg gets back on track this week. Loras D-Line can play with anyone, but I can't see their O moving the ball against the Knights. They will be a tough out for both Coe and Central. The only weakness they have shown is in the kicking game. They may want to pick up a free agent place kicker for the stretch drive. (Coe have anyone available?)

This old alum is glad that Central has been careful to keep its homecomings in September.  They had a couple many years ago that happened in October and in blizzards.  As to who to pick for a homecoming opponent, it is always nice to pick a winable game, but last year was great when it was Wartburg and a really big game.

I like the rivalry day idea.  I think the the Central Simpson trophy should be in the likeness of Red Rock Dam or otherwise some how Des Moines River related since you have to cross it to get between Indianola and Pella.

Call it the Lincoln Highway trophy and make the trophy itself an oversized penny that they use for the coin flip before the game.  Lincoln's profile on one side with Evelyn Wood and K Raymond Clark's profiles facing each other on the back.  Chandler would be reqiured to carry it around with him at all times.   Unless Cornell wins eventually then their AD would have to carry it.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

SIDs nominate. We got 80 nominations representing 48 schools for the 25 spots this past week but I don't keep nominations around after that. The Team of the Week is selected by D3football.com staff.

The best part about the Team of the Week is it's constructed like a real team. So many conference players of the week are QBs, RBs, WRs and LBs, but how often does a tight end or defensive tackle or offensive line get recognized? That's what the Team of the Week is all about -- since it takes 22 starters to field a team, someone should be recognized at each spot.

2004-Weren't that good
2005-weren't that good
2006-making a comeback
2007-No excuse. Flat out shouldn't happen. Hopefully the players aren't dwelling on it like I am.
A loss this weekend will make the rest of the year meaningless.
