Outstanding first 3 quarters played by the Loars deffense.  This was lead by Brock Hall, which seems to be playing with some type of hand injury.  Facts are facts.  The deffensive unit for the DuHawks spent more time on the field than the offense did and led to a tired squad.  To many 3 and outs in the 4th quarter when you needed to pick up the deffense and give them a blow.

Warburg did not look impressive at all until the 4th quarter when the ran over a tired Loras deffense.  They had virtually no offense in the first half.  It will be interesting to see the upcoming games for the Knights and see how they respond.

I totally agree with you.  Doesn't look like the Knights are back into their top form after the loss last weekend.  Loras' defense was all over them for most of the game,  Hall just might be the best defender in the IIAC.  He was all over the field, and if he is playing with an injured hand, he was still really impressive.

The One...Totaly agree with your assesment of Brock Hall.  I know there has been a few good ones over the past years in this conference, and at Loras as well.  I listen to most of the game through the web cast and kid seems to play with a lot of heart.  I have heard rumblings that Pierce at BV was supposed to be the top performer in the IIAC this year but I think I would lean towards Hall.  The kid played inspired football.

Show...do you have any insight into the development of the game.  First time the norse have outlasted the beavers in quite some time.  it will be very interesting to hear the details.

Nope, sorry.  I just saw the final score.  I was caught up watching Iowa actually win a game that they weren't supposed to!

Yes !!  Luther 25  BV 22  Brief summary...
Tyler Sherden ran for 269 yards breaking Luther's single game rushing record of 263 set in 1957 by Brad Hustad against UIU.

Luther dominated the 1st quarter and lead 8-0.  Sherden runs brought TD.
BV dominated the 2nd quarter both on offense and defense.  Halftime score BV 14  LC 8.  BV mixed passes with runs very well.  Freshman RB Donscheski ran well and BV QB Hawkins threw well on slants across the middle.
Both teams exchanged interceptions and with 28 seconds in half Luther kicked a field goal.  BV 14  LC 11

Second half Luther scored from 3 yd line after having a 4th and inches on the 19 to get a first down.  LC 18  BV 14 at 7:13.
Both exchanged punts then Luther MLB intercepted a pass and went 35 yards for TD.  LC 25  BV 14
In 4th Q BV started on their 24, marched right down field with passes and scored from 4 yed line.
LC 25  BV 22 with 10:59 left.

Luther punted on their possession to the 1 yd line.  BV marched right down field to Luther 43.  Then Luther intercepted.  BV called three time outs but Sherden made a first down and Luther ran the clock out.

"Sideline colleague" said after the game, "BV found a running game with #44."

This is the first time in nine years that Luther has beaten BV  and only the second time in 12 years.

Hey all, it's been a while since I checked in.  First off, congrats to Central on a great game today.

Second, props to my Knights for putting something together in the 4th quarter to win a gutsy game at Loras.

If you're Wartburg, the one huge positive you have to take away from this game is that the defense is playing awesome.  Even if the O is struggling, you can still win ballgame with D.  I'll take defense over offense any day.

I thought before the season started that this would be a unit that might give up less than 100 points in the regular season.  It's definitely a possibility.

Charlie,

Tom Breitbach (spelling?)  did have a great punt return.  Got hit and never went down.  The one thing that helped the Dutch out IMO is Coe dropped a lot of passes that should have been caught.  That hurt them on some drives.  Great game and great effort by the Kohawks.

Lance! Welcome back to the board. Will you get to attend a Wartburg game this year?

Congrats to Central and Wartburg on today's wins. We start our game in an hour, and it should be a tough one, too.

Nice, hard fought game at the Rock Bowl today.  Wartburg announcers made it sound like Loras has a pretty nice facility there now....I even heard a little renovation to their sound system as the one and only MC Hammer provided some music for the crowd during one timeout today.
The One, you would love the music selection at the RB.  Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Tag Team.  Its like somebody left a "Hip-Hop Hits of the Early 90's" CD in the old press box and they decided to use it exclusively in the new one.  That and the random animal sound effects, but that's already been discussed.  PS - Haven't heard much from Ol' Digger since then.

Interesting day around the league, especially involving the top four.  That Dubuque offense really seems to be rolling now.  Even if it was Cornell, scoring five times in 15 minutes is quite a feat.

Another "skin of their teeth" win for Central today.  Gotta credit the Dutch - they make the plays when they need to.  The blocked punt-quick drive-TD pass to Huisman exchange completely changed the game and Central looked a lot more confident after that stretch.  Coe's better than I thought they'd be, but still I still don't think they have the play makers to be at the top of the league.  Breitbach can definitely make some plays, but TeKippe looked far from impressive at dealing with the Central rush.

Also a big "Thank You" to the DutchFan2004 clan, who showed me some great hospitality during the pregame tailgate.  DF04 makes some mean baked beans, which I'm told assist with a certain victory-predicting ritual that one of his grandsons has.

What's going on with the Wartburg offense?  Can anyone that was at the Rock Bowl shed some light?  In the stats it said the Knights' longest play went for just 27 yards.  I'm guessing it was dreary and possibly rainy for most of the game, but I wouldn't think the weather would have that much of an impact on things.  Also, Blake Suckow kicked the first FG?  Or is that a misprint in the Loras stats?

Couple more big games next week.  Central at Dubuque and Coe at Wartburg.  Kohawks will be looking to spoil the Knights homecoming almost 5 years to the day since Freddy Jackson and company did the same thing.  Plus, there's that whole Suckow-Coe connection.  And over in the Key City, which vaunted unit comes out on top, the Central D or the Dubuque O?  Should be an interesting match-up there.

sportsknight,

Thanks for coming.  We enjoyed you coming to the tailgate.  The grandson didn't come through though.  He waited till after the game.

Now on to football.

People were counting the Dutch out for not putting away teams like Loras.  I think Loras has been playing pretty well.  I think that there are no give me games in the IIAC this year.  The Knights didn't pull away till late with the Duhawks.
