Ok.  I am way behind on this board.  Missed some time being busy with life.

First, I want to comment on the subjects at hand.....
Recruiting in the Iowa Conference has as much to do with school philosophy as anything else.  For instance, Wartburg and Central have an extremely high rate of Iowa kids at their schools in general.  They recruit locally and do very well with that recruiting base.  Generally, if you are a great football player in NE Iowa, you go to Wartburg.  If you are a great football player in central Iowa, you go to Central.  That is the way it works for the most part.  Now, in contrast, Coe has nearly 50% of its student body from outside of the state of Iowa, and I believe Cornell and Luther are in the same boat.  Therefore, it is important for those said schools to recruit harder out of state.  That is why there are always kids from Texas, Illinois, Missouri,  and Colorado on those rosters.  There is a ceratin ammount of institutional control when it comes to recruiting and what "profile" the school has in mind for its applicants.

Next, (note: this is a perceptual statement, not wanting it to be taken as fact.)  I think a lot of the "thug" reference one hears about UD athletes has as much to do with academics as it does with anything else.  The educational requirements at UD allow for student/athletes that normally coulnd't get into other IIAC schools to be admitted.  For example, Walner Belleus.  Could not make grades at U of Iowa, but gets in at UD.  When I hear about any "thugs" that are at UD that is usually the topic that is focused on, not race, or appearance.

B.V. (Bethel, Central, Coe, Wartburg) and Luther (St. Olaf, Central, Wartburg) have both played tough games early in the season.  One of the positives of such a schedule is that the players get to play some games in front of a bunch of people. :)

There has been a lot of talk of enrollment issues at B.V.  That topic hasn't been reflected in the attendance numbers so far.

The Luther-Wartburg game always draws well no matter the location.  Luther has also already had homecoming to spike the average attendance.  Luther is also a bigger college than most IIAC schools with more alumni.  Not dramatically bigger, but bigger.  Luther actually brought a solid visiting group to Cornell even though the total attendance was called 650.  Cornell had one gate wide open for much of the game while they were taking admission at the other entrance. ???

Central played in front of big crowds at Hope and at Simpson.  Can Dutch fans help with what percentage of those two crowds were made up of Dutch fans?  What the Dutch fans have going for them is that I assume the same core base shows up to home and road games much more consistently than Luther or perhaps even Wartburg.

Dubuque's attendance numbers were really helped by playing at Coe.

Thanks for the numbers Floyd...I am surprised that Central isn't averaging more fans per game than BV.  How does that happen  ???

and some +K, you know, for the effort  ;)

It would be interesting to see just how accurate those attendance numbers really are.

So I ask dbljay21 for some +K, you know, for the effort, and he replies, "Oh, uh, there won't be any +K, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

I agree as a lot of SIDs use a guess when putting together baseball attendance numbers or the spring game in Iowa City.  Some of the numbers seem like they are going off of paid attendance (Luther home games as an example).  Other schools seems to post a nice round number for all home games.  Here is Cornell's home attendance:

Alma - 700
Loras - 650
Luther - 650
Dubuque - 950 (Homecoming for the Rams)

Central and Simpson have also posted nice round numbers for home game attendance.

Look to see who the home games are with. That usually has a lot to do with attendance

Dubuque attendance will take a hit this year as they only have visiting side stands up.  No home side seating this season while their new place gets built.

Wartburg will be in the 5000's by the end of the season with home games remaining vs. Coe, Simpson, and Central.
That number right now is with BV and Augsburg as the only 2 home games out of the first 6 this year. WIth that said, it is awefully nice to finish with 3 of 4 at home.

They only had one side seating two years ago.  Are they changing that now?  Or are they using the seating they had for the visitors and adding new home seats?  Thats kind of different.  I thought UD seating was pretty good two years ago.

UD built new visitor side seating during the last offseason.  They took out the old home stands and are in the process of building new home stands with the new rec center built on to the back of the home stands.

I agree on the Knight total rising as it is hard to guage the attendance numbers when a school like Wartburg still has so many home games left.  Wartburg averaged less then 3,000 fans per game (all games) last year so it appears as if the Knights are going to be a bigger draw this year than last year.

Luther averaged over 3,000 fans per contest (all games) in 2006, so at this point this appears is another similar year for them.  They had six very well attended games last year.

Not sure where you got your numbers. Wartburg average over 4300 people a game last year which wasn't bad considering Central, Simpson, and Coe were all on the road.
IIRC, Wartburg was in the top 10 again in attendance.

My numbers for all of this are only as reliable as the numbers put on the Iowa Conference website:

http://www.iowaconference.com/TASFBC/2006-FB/HTML/war.htm

According to the website, Wartburg played football in front on 28,768 people in 2006.  That was for the 10 games for an average of 2,877 fans per game.  According to the website, Wartburg played only three games in front of 4,000 or more fans (Monmouth, Luther, and Loras).

Now that I look at the games closer, it does seem bizarre that the Coe and Central games are so low.

I just am going off of what I am given access to. :)  Blame it on the SIDs!

I would say the Hope game was 20% Dutch.  Big following up there with fireworks after the night game and it was built into a town celebration type of thing.  still 1000 is pretty good to make the trip to Michigan.  It seemed at the Simpson game however there was a larger Central crowd.  My mother in law was in the grass in the endzone that game and said that Central side was quite louder than Simpson.  I'd say that was 55/45 in favor of Central maybe even closer and even...Homecomming games seem to be well attended yet not a whole lot of cheering outside of the normal crowd in my opinion.  Everyone trying to get caught up with one another.  I hope both Wartburg and Central can win out and get a good big loud crowd.
