You missed a pick on the pickem board.  You forgot the BV Loras game.

Interesting piece in the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier about Koehler shielding Suckow from the media.

4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Don't think its a huge deal either way. Having had limited interaction with Neil, I don't see him as the type of guy to say the wrong thing. Actually, from a media perspective, I would imagine him to be a pretty boring interview.

Going to be heading to Waverly this weekend to take in the Coe Wartburg game and wanted to get there in time to watch the Hawkeye kickoff.  Can some of the Wartburg faithful let me know if there will be a table two open at Joe's to watch the game.  Normally I wouldn't think it would be a problem, but I wasn't sure with this being homecoming weekend how crowded it will be.  Thanks.

Walston Hoover

Joe's or the Fainting Goat right across the street from Joe's has a lot of space and TV's.
There's enough stuff going on on campus that I'm sure both those places will have space. Now Saturday night will be a different story. Is this your first trip to Waverly as a spectator?

I've had another 1 or 2.  The one that seems to stick out in my mind was a couple of years ago when they played Lake Forest in the playoffs.

Walston Hoover

Ah yes, my senior year. That ended up being a pretty fun day.
The atmosphere up there should be pretty crazy this weekend. Between having a good opponent and it being homecoming, the place will be packed.

Central/DBQ Quickee Breakdown

Have not seen Central...only saw them last year at Cornell's HC game.  Solid all around, well-coached at all facets.  Connell is playing a high level, their punting game is a defensive asset and their defense is making at leasrt enough plays to win every game.  Schuring is icing.

Dubuque:  They have a senior QB who seems to know his limitations and a coach that maximizes his QB's ability.  I did not see Jackson as a prolific downfield passer.  They threw a lot of swing passes almost as extended pitch plays.  He is very adept at pre-reading on the run/option plays and rarely made a bad decision on the keeper/handoff option.  He has a good feel as to where the holes will open up...Their spread offense is a run first/ pass second offense.  I thought the strength of the Spartans defense was their LB's and Safeties.  Good anticipation and good closing speed.

DBQ offense vs. Central Defense:  If Dubuque can gain big yards on first down and have a consistent day of 3rd and short, they will put Central on their heals.  DBQ's running game is more diversified than it appears.  If Central can plug it up and force Jackson to throw downfield then I think Central gains the upper hand.  Edge - DBQ...but very slightly.

Central offense vs. DBQ Defense:  Central's balance coupled with Connell's ability to take over is the big factor.  I did not see DBQ's defense as dominating...good but not great.  I think they can be run directly at and Central has the personnel to do so.  Edge:  Central

Whereas last week Dubuque's strengths aligned perfectly with Cornell's weaknesses; I think the opposite is true here.  Central's strength on offense seems to line up with the DBQ's limitations on defense.  DBQ's offense will need to step up to win this for the Spartans.

I think Central's punting success is the element that turns the balance in favor of the Dutch

Prediction:  At Central, the Dutch finds a way to beat the Spartans.

Gotta learn to read a schedule...At Dubuque, the Dutch squeaks out a new way to beat the Spartans.   ;)

Though if it were at Central, I would be more secure on that prediction.  I actually think if Dubuque were to win, there would exist a potentially stronger case for 2 IIAC playoff berths.

You see, these level headed scouting reports from neutral observers picking Central to win this weekend is what will keep me away from the computer this saturday.  It better stop raining so I can fire up the lucky mower to see if that can throw the balance in UD's favor. ;D

Klop, sorry for taking what you had said earlier out of context.

Doolittledog,

Your mower has a hex on it.  You will find it with four flat tires and out of gas with a gummed up fuel line.  Don't go out and try it out.  I don't want to see you incure any expense because of the VooDoo I may have created.   :D :D :D :D
