Earlier this week, Eric Koehler said he "didn't want this to be Coe versus Neil Suckow week." After that beatdown today at Walston Hoover, I wonder why not. This one hurt bad folks. Suckow's punt return TD was a dagger. Gotta hand it to him for standing up to his old teammates and a pretty hostile visiting crowd (at least until halftime). But that was nothing compared to the hostile defense that Andy TeKippe faced.

Things don't get any easier with Luther coming to town. Gut check time for the Kohawks.

The Wartmobile just rolled in.  I think that last half hour we must have been on auto-pilot.  I am exhausted.  What a day; beautiful weather, tailgating with family & friends, a breakout game for the Knights, peak at the new "W", cold beer & hot brats at the Octoberfest. The only bad part of the day is driving home at night waiting for a damn whitetail deer to come popping out of the ditch.  I guess that is just part of living in Iowa during the autumn.  We made it home OK tonight, but there is roadside evidence that lots of people didn't.

I can't explain the difference between the team I saw today and the one that put on orange and black uniforms to play Augsburg.  The team that played today was the team I bragged about last summer that I thought might rival the undefeated 1999 and 2003 squads.

I certainly don't expect to hear that the Kohawk quarterback, Mr. Tekippe, has taken his offensive line out for dinner.  What a beating he took.  He must be one tough hombre.  He kept getting up and asking for more.  I  thought we should start calling him Timex because he took a licking but kept on ticking or he could have been called Paris Hilton for all the time he spent on his back.

What does it mean when you are 65 years old ... retired ... and a UD loss like today's  still is a disappointment?

Well that answers my question of were you born in 1965 or graduated from DBQ in 1965!!!

I imagine the Dubuque team is especially gutted right now.  Tough way to lose a game but they have to realise they gave the 7th ranked team in the country all they could handle.

Doolittledog,

Here is some special K for you.  Sorry you got the flu.  I guess my jinx hit you instead of the mower.  Sorry for that.  You missed a whale of a game.  To bad any team had to suffer a loss after how hard these guys played.

Good thing to know your jinx missed my mower and hit me instead.  I thought maybe you were just being extra carefull and jinxing my mower AND me.

The little one is back to his early nap time so we would have been able to make the game.  Of course, when my wife and daughters got back from dance class they would have been surprised to not find us at home because I hadn't said anything about going to a game this week!!!

As  long as the playoff talk has started, we may have a better chance of making it than some think, if you look at MIAC and WIAC, if things go to the favorites there, both of their second place teams will have 2 loses, courtesy of BV over Bethel and Bethel over the Oles, with the Johnies yet to come.  And in the WIAC they just keep beating each other up.   Stevens Point has a loss to WW, but Lacrosse and Eau Claire left on the schedule.  No doubt a 2 lose team from the WIAC deserves to go but that opens up the door.

In the NWC, they all have two loses, I assume Whitworth would get in to Pool B if they run the table, but they have Linfield and Willamette left ahead of them. In Souther Cali, Occidental is undefeated for the potential AQ, Redlands has 1 loss with Oxy at the end of the year, but that conference isn't very tough anyway, no pool C there.  Not sure how many Pool C bids ar available this year, and haven't reviewed anyone but the west region, but it seems d3 is reflecting the d1 upset trends in a few places too.

I'd say there's hope for the Warts after they drop #2 on Nov 10.  The only problem is instead of quality of wins index, the NCAA is now using opponents winning percentage and opponents opponents winning percentage as a criteria for the selection cmt.  Thus the non-conference wins over the Wisc. Lutherans and Waldorfs of the world hurt the whole conference.

To any of the coe fans, I believe I heard on the net while listening to the game that Tate Harrison got hurt. Was it just the hit he put on the Knights WO or was it a serious injury ?

Footballdaddy- Man I wish I could of been at the game, But Ms. Wartburg Fan thought we needed to have the grandkids over for the day. Boy where is her priorities (Just joking Dear)

It sounded like the game Plan in the first half was to give the ball to Suckrow and get the bad feeling over in the first half, wish was to bad for Coe. I agree with Charlie Kohawk the punt return was the dagger in the Coe players heart.

Listen to Coach K after the game and when they (announcers)wanted to bring up the Central game at the end of the year, all he said that they have to get ready for the Simpson game and they are not looking pass anyone that he believe the player had learn their lesson. One game at a time.

Maybe that will get some of the other teams to stop scheduling so many patsies...ie Monmouth, Wisc Lutheran, Waldorf and so on!

I think the IIAC has got to cheer for the Johnnies to go undefeated in the MIAC. A win over them by Bethel puts us in the same situation we were last year with SJU. Then the committee would be looking between whose loss was worse...losing to BVU or Augsburg to help decide if Bethel and Wartburg get in. (I am implying the so called "Evil Empire" loses again Nov. 10) Its going to be an interesting 3 weeks!

I have to echo football daddy's sentiments.  You shouldn't be picking on Mrs Wartburg fan.  Where are your priorities?  You should have bonded with the grandkids at the game.  Listening to the "Sound Off Show" with Jim Zabel and John Miller on WHO Radio on the way home from Dubuque yesterday after the game.  An Iowa fan was talking about how expensive it is to support the U of I going to get tickets for the game the cost of seating to get season tickets.  Then the next call was Larry Happel the SID for Central.  The call after that was how maybe the Iowa fans could watch some good football in the IIAC for $10.  You can take the whole family to an IIAC game pay for the tickets and all your food at the game for the price of one ticket at an Iowa game.  People of Iowa are missing a great deal not going to IIAC football.  I don't care if its a Central-UD game with 3 OT's or the Simpson-Cornell game that was some what lopsided.  It is all great football and a great deal for the money.  I don't think I will ever grace the gates of Kinnick again.  Not when I can take my sons, grandsons, and the rest of the family to an IIAC game for the price of two tickets to Kinnick of the price of one ticket to Iowa State Iowa at Jack Trice.  Congrats to all the IIAC teams on the play and effort you guys give every week.

I am not quite sure how to start this post. First of all, I know how much the UD players and coaching staff wanted to win yesterday. It was obvious from listening to the game. They are a very good team on both sides of the ball. On any other saturday, I think they could beat central and wartburg. But, the fact of the matter is we didn't so time to move on.......speaking of which......I can think of NO BETTER way to take out their frustration then on Lorass this week.

This week however, my 7 month old son will realize what the heck I am jumping up and down about because I will be at the game!

Congrats to central on the win and I know how much of an emotional letdown losing was for the spartans but the remaining 3 weeks is where you get to prove you belong in the top tier of conference teams!!!

Strap it back on boys, time to get back to work!!

Willie,

got to get that son to the games and start to bring him up right.  Maybe in 18 years he can be the next Jermar Jackson.

He has had a bad cold so to avoid ear infections, I kept him at home with the radio. But, rest assured, he will attend as many UD games as we can. That would be nice ("next jermar jackson") but dad was a LB/DE and certainly didn't have the athleticism of jermar.
