I'd say there's hope for the Warts after they drop #2 on Nov 10.  The only problem is instead of quality of wins index, the NCAA is now using opponents winning percentage and opponents opponents winning percentage as a criteria for the selection cmt.  Thus the non-conference wins over the Wisc. Lutherans and Waldorfs of the world hurt the whole conference.

Maybe that will get some of the other teams to stop scheduling so many patsies...ie Monmouth, Wisc Lutheran, Waldorf and so on!

I think the IIAC has got to cheer for the Johnnies to go undefeated in the MIAC. A win over them by Bethel puts us in the same situation we were last year with SJU. Then the committee would be looking between whose loss was worse...losing to BVU or Augsburg to help decide if Bethel and Wartburg get in. (I am implying the so called "Evil Empire" loses again Nov. 10) Its going to be an interesting 3 weeks!

As long as St. Olaf is a strong program, I have no issue with the Norse taking on Waldorf as the other non-conference game.  Playing one strong non-conference game is better than what a lot of schools do, and the Norse haven't been consistent like the Dutch since the 1970s.

Coe and Wartburg have been consistently good in recent years where they could easily be playing one weaker school and one tough school in most preseasons.  I think Loras and Central often have scheduled the toughest in terms of quantity in recent years where both preseason games might be tougher tests.

It is hard for me to question the Dubuque schedule as the Spartans have just gotten back to being a contender program.

I agree...at least one tough team and one patsy could be allowed. Schedule a top CCIW, WIAC, or MIAC team, not bottom half and then you can have someone else. I agree that Luther did well with their non conference scheduling...I think Central and Loras also scheduled tough as well as BV playing Bethel.

I agree...if you can schedule one tough non-conference opponent and one "cupcake" that is a good approach.  The "easy" game gives teams opportunities to 1. build confidence if they are struggling 2. correct any problems that need correction 3. get injured guys healthy for conference games 4. get younger/less-talented players a chance to play on a Saturday 5. start/end the season strong

I think that most of the teams in the IIAC do a good job with the non-conference scheduling, but some teams do have trouble scheduling non-conference games.  When I was at Aurora, we had to schedule Valparaiso (1-AA non-scholarship school) every year to fill out our schedule because non-conference schools within our traveling range did not want to play us...we were 20-1 in conference play the three years I was on the team and 7-0 the year before I got there.

Charlie- WHy don't you ask Raeburn what he did at the end of the game?
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

lorbec,

I agree with you on the game.  It was great.  The comment on the central fans might have been a little over the top.  They were cheering their team on.  Which is worse the central fans cheering for their team or the insults of the UD fans to my son and I at half time as we went to the concession stand staying Central Sucked.  or that because my son wore a #10 jersey and they yelled out hey #10 sucks.  IMO there is no place for that in sports.  Cheer for your team not insult the other.

On the other topic of he said he said I agree.  That should be dropped as I don't think any of the people that were there are the ones commenting.

I think Willis and Raeburn had a decent relationship, and Raeburn may have just been upset by the way his team played, but even to blow Koehler off like that (with or without the one finger salute) is pretty low.
You don't really want me to mention how Willis referred to Coe players as "white trash" two years ago do you? For the record, I don't own a "Wuck Fartburg" shirt, but I think they're funny.

I would love to hear when this came about.

I agree...let fans cheer their own team on however they want in a positive way. It is the way it should be. I dont know how Dubuque fans thought they could say 10 sucks and all that stuff, you at least have to prove it first. Anyway...we can get off this worthless subject hopefully.

"You suck!" and other such vapid declarations against either team and star players will be heard as long as there are mental midgets to spout them.  I think it is an expression of a sort of athletic impotence whereby frustrated fans and "jock wannabes" in the security of one another find a misplaced sense of importance.

Right on easy to be in the stands. Takes courage to be on the field

Willie University

I will NEVER forget this lineman from William Penn say to me "you guys suck" as we just scored our 4th TD on our way to a 33-0 win. I couldn't figure out how he could even say such a thing??? I could see if they were beating us 33-0, throwing that extra disrespectful jab at us but when down by 4 TD's?? And I thought O-lineman were supposed to be smart  ???

Never was a trash talker on the field. Too many other things to worry about.
Now watching Devine after every play take his mouthguard out so what he was saying could be understood is a technique only taught in Denver.

That's very unfortunate that fans were directing their comments to you and your son dutchfan. Not acceptable in my opinion.

I wasn't trying to make a point that all Central fans are like this. The majority that were in the main section of bleachers were loud and supportive all day. Gotta love it. The guys in the end zone section were taking shots at the UD students near them and it was in no way positive support. Don't try to tell me otherwise, I'm pretty sure I understand what was happening.

lorbec47

You're right also Walston. A-P guys never talked, too busy busting their butts to the LOS and kicking a$$ to talk in between plays.

Was at the Knight Kohawk game Saturday and came away very impressed with Wartburg on both sides of the ball.  Their team speed is very impressive.  Coe has a fast defense and they didn't seem to be much of a match for Wartburg.  Coe seemed to be a little flatter than I thought they would be, but playing their third game in a row against the top teams in the conference has probably left them all pretty beat up.  I would agree that the Coe line didn't do a very good job protecting the QB for most of the game, but I would also argue that the QB didn't help himself much either.   A lot of his passes that were knocked down or intercepted seemed to be slung from almost a sidearm motion.  When you are not a very tall quarterback to begin with, dropping down on your release isn't going to help anyone out.

Thats funny..."you suck!" is the preferred insult that is thrown at any visiting player/fan at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA.  I was there as a visitor this year and also called a$$hole.   And I was expecting much more creative and inventive forms of insult from the highly reputable fans in Philly...Apparently, the Eagles fans are a bunch of mental midgets  :D

You are absolutely correct Walston.  There are way more important things to worry about than trash talking...I had to reprimand our best player on Friday night because he got into a "discussion" with the opposing QB about who the best QB in the city of Chicago was.  I simply told him that he needed to "shut his mouth and PROVE that he was the better QB thru his play on the field."
