Rhino--

No way would I say that I was a part of that front row group. I would have been sitting off to your right with my wife. I took a cheap shot at you yesterday, uncalled for and ridiculous. You probably never noticed me because I rarely say anything during the game.

I do recall the UD football comment. Honestly, it burned me, but from seeing that over the last 8 years, you were right. I couldn't even see what happened, all I know is that the result of the play would have made it 4 &15. That hurt bad.

Here's to 8 years of frustration vented in my last post. I let my emotions get the best of me, somthing I always coach my players to control. It didn't help that my high school team got knocked out of the playoff hunt the night before. A tough 20-hour swing. You're right rhino, who cares about the stats...i'll pull an original...SCOREBOARD.

Dang you and your wooden shoes... ;)

Thanks to all you Dutchies for giving me some info on where to get some ice cold brew and some food. I will most likely try to get to one of them after the game.

Heys, you and your family are in my prayers as well as the Grants and the Legrees along with everyone else in that area.

Lorbec,

That was very gracious.  I heard a coach once say that football is a game of passion and aggression.  Controlled passion and aggression.  We all slip sometimes.  We would not be human nor a "fan"antic if we weren't.  With the IIAC I wish we could go 10-0 and the rest of the conference 9-1 but that can not happen.  I really think we have a great football conference.  There are not any MUC's here but we all love the game.

The lack of drinking establishments has nothing to do with football success. The Dutch have a strict no drinking policy during the season. Its a trust thing and yes, incidents occur, but for the most part anybody around the program knows not to be caught dead in a bar between the start of camp and the end of the season. Needless to say however, the campus livens a up a bit when the season is over. DH, Salamis is always a popular place on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. At least those are the nights I always saw you there  ;D

Add me to the list of well wishers for the Heys family and all others affected. As competitive as things can get from time to time, we're all pretty much on the same team when it comes to something like this.
Congrats also to Connell, anyone who doesn't think he's the MVP to this point, consider what the Dutch record might look like without him.
A few other random thoughts, Loras might be the best 2-6 team in D-111 and Hawkins should have some eye opening stats for half a game against the Waldorf secondary. I can't even imagine what the team looked like that lost to them.

Walston Hoover

Lorbec, you can't give up that easily. Stand up for yourself, man.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Amen to that!

Does anyone on here remember the Depot? Man, I miss that place -- I even cried when they tore it down!

Airborne,

Just curious if this is something that was started by the players or did the coaching staff start this awhile back and it has just been an unspoken thing ever since? I wonder what everybody elses policies are during season. I had a couple buddies who played for wartburg and I know that willis eventually had to make a policy for them during the week because there were members of the team going out on tuesday nights I think. I don't think the guys going out were starters or anything but still they are part of the team. I know Cornell has never had a policy for in season. I think that is very big of the Central players to stick to that and I'm sure people slip every now and then as they are human and are college kids, but just having that discipline is probably one of the contributions to their success.

I wonder if the lack of adult drinking establishments in Pella directly corresponds to their football success???  Could be, but probably not.
[sarcasm] Central students are at school to study. [/sarcasm]

And yes...the Depot was great, but got too crowded at times.  Following the train tracks home was always a huge plus leaving that place.

Is South Side still there?  I used to tend the bar there, and the food was always pretty good.

Woody's ain't bad, but I haven't tried the food.  Woody is a Beake=good people.

Post game was always nap time for me.

Willis's policy was "abuse bring's restraint"
We were allowed to do whatever we wanted unless guys took it too far. I was a fan of it since we were supposedly young adults, we were given the freedom to act that way and be responsible for our actions.
I only know of one time that he had to put a curfew (I think midnight) on the bars and that was because a couple guys didn't get into any trouble, but stayed out too late and missed a weightlifting session.
For the most part we were pretty well behaved and hopefully allowed him to only worry about coaching football and not worry about we were doing when we weren't at practice.

The night I spent at Woody's, we just called everyone that worked there Woody.
I guess you had to be there.

Its been a policy as long as I can remember, and as long as I have heard from alumni, back in to Schippers time. It was just a rule and the upperclassmen led by example and the punishment was spelled out. I think its a good idea for the team, everyone sacrifices together and holds each other accountable. If you got caught anywhere you had to run a fair amount and sit out of the next game regardless of who you were. I personally never had a problem giving it up for those months in order to win and perform at our best level. It is also proven that drinking has a negative impact on your athletic performance which is another reason that Central does it aside from staying out of trouble (cough cough...IOWA!!) haha. I know Coach Anderson and the Strength and Conditioning staff are also big proponents of it.

Willis' policy is still in effect with Coach K.There have been some abuses and there are some restraints.
