Yeah, but Warthog is like 200 years old!!!  He's more old school than you ;D

There is some good basketball being played in Iowa over the last 20 years.  Many D1 recruits, unfortunatly a lot of them leave the state to play.  I know in the mid to late '80's there was a year when I think it was Waterloo West played a Des Moines team for the state title and all 10 starters in that game went on to play D1 basketball.  Terry Woods to ISU, Chris Gaines to Hawaii,  one of the Des Moines guys played at UNI when they beat Mizzou in the NCAA's.

Not football related, sorry.

Go Spartans, beat Loras this weekend!!!

Norsedad

well back in the day...for me...York always had good BB and fb teams...but I am going with currie b/c of the Norse connection...dbjay will have the guys ready and chompin at the bit to kick some yorkie bootie

and if warthog is 200 yrs old and old school...then I must be ancient school.  I remember from my 11 years in Iowa that Dowling, Roosevelt had some good teams. Also Ames was good too.  But I seem to recall that Ankeny has had some good teams too....back then Ankeny was a rest area between DM and Ames....a good place to take a wiz after a full night at the DM bars.

I gotta go with the York Dukes.   ;)

As a small town Iowa kid, I was always dazzled when we'd visit cousins over the Thanksgiving holiday and go to the holiday basketball tournaments. There were dozens of teams in the city league and out in the suburbs that would win the Iowa high school tournament without breaking a sweat.  Generally York was one of them.

If you are talking Bball, the Curie Condors are gonna be very very tough this year.  Lots of talent and a lot of young talent.  Curie is known more as a basketball school than football in Chicago.

Warthog might just be picking York because I am a Norse and wants to give me a hard time ... ;)  That's ok though.  Curie will be ready to play ball tomorrow night.
Go Norse!!!

I'm not that old!!!
I'll be in DBQ this weekend, watching the Spartans kick some Lorasssss
For all alumni coming in to the game, Dogg House at halftime..great prices, lots of tv's, walking distance from the stadium

doolittledog

Oh, my memories of the Dog House.  Good times!!!

We won't be there this weekend.  Working on the house.  It's our hope we can make at least a couple of games in Dubuque next year though.

DF2004... Don't you think that the voters will almost flip-flop WB and Central if the Knights win the season finale?  Unfortunately with a lot of hard-fought wins this year (maybe playing to level of competition or competition playing to Central's level... no clue as I haven't seen any games) will hurt Central in voters' eyes.  I wouldn't be surprised if WB wins the regular season finale to see Central dropped back to that #8 region spot and eventually get bumped for a school in a conference with a higher success rate in the playoffs.

This is not a slam against Central at all... not one at all as their body of work in football year in and year out speaks for itself.  These voters and selection committees though might have other plans when it comes to IIAC schools.

Reigniting the Coe/Wartburg feud...

Here's what I heard:

Wartburg coach, during the handshake, asked Coe coach if Breitbach needed a summer job.   :o

Meanwhile, Cornell Entomologists secretly unleash colonies of termites and other wood-boring insects in Pella leaving the Dutch shoeless for Saturday's game.

If the Kanigits beat Central and both teams otherwise win out...I believe both get in...Wartburg as AQ and Central as a Pool C qualifier (I think that's how it works, Pat would be able to confirm)

If Central wins, then I believe Fartburg is wucked.

;D  thanks dbjay....did the currie condors make the play-offs?????

Yes we did...6-3 automatic qualifier.  We play Elmhurst York on Friday night in Elmhurst.  They are a big, physical football team, but I think we have an advantage because we are more athletic and are playing very aggressively right now.  It will be fun...I am very nervous already and its only Thursday  :)

Just a little info to get  you riled up to play York.  Bill Lech I believe is the head coach at York.  I maybe wrong, let me know if I am.  However, Bill Lech is a graduate of Coe and former QB for the Kohawks.  He still holds some records at Coe, I think.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I played in the York Christmas tournament.  Nothing beats the Proviso West Holiday tournament, however.

Heys,
Maybe a good summer job would be traffic control in Waverly to handle all the football players transferring in!

(This is a joke.)

coocoo speaks the truth. Lech graduated from Coe in 1990. He holds school records for passing attempts in a season (340), completions in a game (30), and passing yards in a game (467).
4 IIAC football championships

A substitute teacher is getting to know her class. She asks "What do your fathers do far a living?"

She goes through the class getting the usual responses-doctor,lawyer,contruction worker,etc...

She then gets to the back of the room where little Tommy looks very nervous. The teacher asks "Tommy, what does your dad do?"

Tommy swllows hard and says"My dad is a male stripper in a gay bar.He dances naked for men to get tips.Sometimes he makes extra money if he goes home with another man."

The teacher is stunned. She quickly changes the subject and gets the class working on an assignment.

She feels bad and goes back to Tommy and asks"Is that true about what your dad does?"

Tommy says"No,I made that up.I'm too embarrassed to say what he really does."

The teacher asks"What does he really do?"

Tommy pauses then says"He's the offensive coordinator for the Iowa Hawkeyes!"

(This is also a joke.)
