I thought Yordi's comments were off the cuff to some kid...I mean we all did that all in jest during college. What sportsknight said (great post by the way...+k) makes it more lacivious in the fact that the kid was courageous to stand up for himself and others like him and Yordi made a conscious effort to cut him down. Yordi, as a "high profile" person on campus should have realized that it was not the right thing to do and he would more easily be singled out because of his position on the football team. Is Yordi an idiot...definitely. Should he sit out...innocent until proven guilty. Punishment...sensitivity class?? :) ...it is only a simple misdemeanor.

One last thing about the Suckow/Coe ordeal...this horse was beat to death months ago...let it go....he only has 3 more games left anyway. ;)

Heys, I think it is more of opponents playing up to Centrals level than vice versa because the Dutch have had the target on their back for a long time...everyone wants to knock off Central because it is a rare victory.

DutchHawk
On Yordi: I agree.  He plays until there is a legal resolution, then the punishment is handed down (if necessary) and it needs to fit the offense.

On Suckow: Thank you.  Its finally over.  He left Coe for Wartburg.  Then he lay the wood to his old team.  Story is over.

On Central: Is Central playing to competition or is competition playing to Central  ???  Six of one, half dozen of the other...Bottom line is Central is unbeaten and should have the target on the back.

+k to you...enjoy it with your breakfast  :)

For those who have said on here that Coe and Wartburg is not a fierce rivalry......see the last 20 pages on this board.

Coe v Cornell is not a rivalry.  To be a rivalry, both teams need to show the ability to win every once and a while against the other.  Kind of like how the Yankees and Red Sox were not really rivals for most of the 90's and early 2000's because the Yankees beat the crap out of Boston almost every time they met.

Just starting the Coe v Cornell talk a little early.

Now THAT is smack talk at its finest WH.

I can't be the one to cast the first stone agains Yordi.I've said similar things in jest and in anger in my past and I'm not proud of it now.I'm all for waiting for the story to be told in court.I'm sure a lawyer would not agree to defend someone in a case like this unless there was some mitigating circumstances. If there is beyond a resonable doubt that he did it,be a man, admitit, pay your fine, and try to think before you speak in the future. But if this was a conflict with this other student, and Yordi was baited into reacting, then I think there should be an equal punishment to the other student.Obviously, this is all idle speculation, and If Yordi is found guilty he should be punished fitting the crime.

Question to all of the Suckow and Wartburg supporters:

Well, first a statement.  You have always leaned on the fact that Neil made his decision to transfer based on what was best for him and his family.  He chose a school that made him more comfortable and football wasn't necessarily the driving factor although a factor none the less.

So the question in:
How do you respond to the rumor that Neil Suckow will not finish his degree from Wartburg and will withdrawal from the school at semester?

disclaimer:  This is a RUMOR I heard and I have nothing to substantiate it.  Just hearsay.

footballdaddy

If it was true,it would be a stupid thing to do,but it's a free country.

Again, I don't think he should have to defend himself for the outburst.  An apology, yes, but to have to defend it in front of a judge is rediculous!  Also, if this had happened the other way around and Yordi would have pursued legal action, he would have been seen as a homophobic jock a-hole.  This just continues to force me to believe that the white, middle-class, straight, male is becoming the most hated demographic in the country.

Sorry, I really don't believe that.  Just ranting and raving because I had to get up at 5:30 on a Friday morning.  So I am all full of piss and vinegar right now.   >:(

If any Hawkeye fans are on this board I have another huge rumor if you are interested.  Just let me know.

This is not a rumor though, it is more like a scoop for a reporter.

Well said sportsknight...+k for you.  Yordi shouldn't be punished until the legal process has run its course and determined whether or not he even needs to be punished.  I disagree with you about the comment about the N-word though...I think there would have been plenty of outrage if he used that slur towards someone.  However, I agree with you about your thoughts about the situation if the roles had been reversed and it had been a gay student doing the harassing.  But it is the world we live in.

I don't think he should be punished at all.  First of all, stuff like this happens on every campus every day with both athletes and non-athletes alike.  Not saying it is right, but I am also not saying it is wrong.  Now I am not a dumb redneck, but to arrest someone for a slur is as reprehensible as the slur itself.  If convicted, he will have that on his personal record forever.  That's garbage in my opinion.  I understand that I may receive some backlash for this post, but i am prepared to defend it.

Because it happens everyday, doesn't make it right.  Its harassment and its illegal.  He broke the law.  Charges were filed.  He was arrested.  And if he is convicted, he deserves to have it on his record.  Its our justice system.  If you think it is garbage, do something to get the laws changed.  The laws that protect the rights of the student also protect your rights.

And how can you say, "not saying it is right, but I am also not saying it is wrong."?  How can harassment ever be right?  Please explain ycsm...I am curious.

What I meant by that is that I find it morally wrong, but should not be wrong legally.  This is a circumstance that I feel strongly about.  I have strong feelings about subjects and I worry that one day I could be prosecuted for harsh comments made on a message board because people that make the laws decide that I am hurting someone's feelings.

I guess I was raised with the belief that you should stand up for what is right and what you believe in, but you should be able to handle your own buisness.  You could say I am a stupid farm boy, but I don't have any regrets with the way I was raised or the moral compass that I posess.

Two Hawkeye freshman will be charged with a felony, and a serious one at that.

Walston Hoover

Is this the same rumor that was going on SUnday night. I know a member of the ICPD and they were investigating 2 more football players then. Both didn't make the trip to Purdue last weekend.
One of the first things I heard about Neil transferring was that he was making sure all his credits transferred so that he could still graduate this spring. If he did indeed withdraw from school, then he will have wasted a couple good opportunities. I highly doubt you will see this happen.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I'm to the point where this doesn't even surprise me anymore.  I haven't even missed going to Iowa games this year.  We had a ton of fun at the Cornell/UD game and plan to go to more IIAC games coming up.  Plus staying home most saturdays means more time with my family.

So is this related to why Everson was left off the team for the Purdue game???

Kind of along the same lines as my last post...Neil has to do what is best for Neil.  If that means dropping out after the season, he better be ready to deal with any consequences.  It's been mentioned before, the players are student-athletes looking to get a good education and knock some heads and play the great game of football while doing it.

They can't all be Freddie Jackson about ready to break out in the NFL in the next year or two.  I plan on picking him up on my fantasy team just to say I have a IIAC player on my team.
