Sorry, I really don't believe that.  Just ranting and raving because I had to get up at 5:30 on a Friday morning.  So I am all full of piss and vinegar right now.   >:(

If I had karma I would throw some your way.  I know how you feel...I have been filling in on the AM shift since Wed. morning.  I am used to my second shift (2:30 pm - 11pm) directing night shows and going to bed at 2am.  The last three days I've been up at 2:30 am to work at 3 am for the hour and a half morning show.  I can't wait til the normal director is back from vacation, so I can get back to my normal sleep patterns.

Good luck to all the IIAC teams this weekend.  Extra good luck to the teams I put down in my Pick'em (Beavers, Dutch, Spartans, Norse, and of course Knights!)

Here's my take on the Yordi situation ... first of all, probably not the best comment to make, but hey from what I've heard it was something that was said one time and yelled out a window not knowing who was walking by.  If that is true, then I find these charges ridiculous.  He is at a private university where all students pay and choose to go to.  If being called a name is the worst thing that ever happens to this student, then he truly lives a blessed life.  I am not condoning what was said by Mr. Yordi, but to be taken to court over a remark yelled out a window on a private university seems to be taking things way over the line to me.

Well said sportsknight...+k for you.  Yordi shouldn't be punished until the legal process has run its course and determined whether or not he even needs to be punished.  I disagree with you about the comment about the N-word though...I think there would have been plenty of outrage if he used that slur towards someone.  However, I agree with you about your thoughts about the situation if the roles had been reversed and it had been a gay student doing the harassing.  But it is the world we live in.

I don't think he should be punished at all.  First of all, stuff like this happens on every campus every day with both athletes and non-athletes alike.  Not saying it is right, but I am also not saying it is wrong.  Now I am not a dumb redneck, but to arrest someone for a slur is as reprehensible as the slur itself.  If convicted, he will have that on his personal record forever.  That's garbage in my opinion.  I understand that I may receive some backlash for this post, but i am prepared to defend it.

Because it happens everyday, doesn't make it right.  Its harassment and its illegal.  He broke the law.  Charges were filed.  He was arrested.  And if he is convicted, he deserves to have it on his record.  Its our justice system.  If you think it is garbage, do something to get the laws changed.  The laws that protect the rights of the student also protect your rights.

And how can you say, "not saying it is right, but I am also not saying it is wrong."?  How can harassment ever be right?  Please explain ycsm...I am curious.

What I meant by that is that I find it morally wrong, but should not be wrong legally.  This is a circumstance that I feel strongly about.  I have strong feelings about subjects and I worry that one day I could be prosecuted for harsh comments made on a message board because people that make the laws decide that I am hurting someone's feelings.

I guess I was raised with the belief that you should stand up for what is right and what you believe in, but you should be able to handle your own buisness.  You could say I am a stupid farm boy, but I don't have any regrets with the way I was raised or the moral compass that I posess.

Its good that you feel that way about your moral compass and your values.  But you don't have to worry about the people that make the laws deciding that you are hurting someone's feelings.  You need to worry about the other people on the message board.  As long as your comments are not harassing other individuals, you have nothing to worry about.  Yordi's alleged comments were perceived to be harassment by the other student and the only reason we are discussing this is because the other student pressed charges.  If he doesn't press charges, nothing happens.  But that was his decision.  He is the only person who could decide if Yordi's alleged comments were harassment or not.

+k to you for sticking to your guns and having the courage to stand up for what you believe  :)
Go Norse!!!

If any Hawkeye fans are on this board I have another huge rumor if you are interested.  Just let me know.

This is not a rumor though, it is more like a scoop for a reporter.

Rumors are what make message boards fun...so what scoop have you heard about the Hawkeyes???

Two Hawkeye freshman will be charged with a felony, and a serious one at that.

I would assume you are talking about Cedric Everson's music video that is on youtube.  It's been talked about on the Iowa and Iowa State message boards for a week now.  Here is a link to the video for anyone that cares....What a bunch of idiots...

I can't be the one to cast the first stone agains Yordi.I've said similar things in jest and in anger in my past and I'm not proud of it now.I'm all for waiting for the story to be told in court.I'm sure a lawyer would not agree to defend someone in a case like this unless there was some mitigating circumstances. If there is beyond a resonable doubt that he did it,be a man, admitit, pay your fine, and try to think before you speak in the future. But if this was a conflict with this other student, and Yordi was baited into reacting, then I think there should be an equal punishment to the other student.Obviously, this is all idle speculation, and If Yordi is found guilty he should be punished fitting the crime.

Again, I don't think he should have to defend himself for the outburst.  An apology, yes, but to have to defend it in front of a judge is rediculous!  Also, if this had happened the other way around and Yordi would have pursued legal action, he would have been seen as a homophobic jock a-hole.  This just continues to force me to believe that the white, middle-class, straight, male is becoming the most hated demographic in the country.

Sorry, I really don't believe that.  Just ranting and raving because I had to get up at 5:30 on a Friday morning.  So I am all full of piss and vinegar right now.   >:(

good point ycsm.  Check out a book called "The Last Dinosaur"  your fears will be confirmed.

One of my complaints with the PC attitude is that it offers the complaintant a more than equal position.  I have seen this in my professional life.  A white male working with 2 in-your-face (they let everyone know) lesbians complained when one of the women dry-humped the other while she was bent over.  The HR dept fired the man within a month and the two women were only verbally reprimanded.  Will Yordi be labelled a homophobic jock...most likely.  And while we dont have all the facts ( the other student did drop the course), I do find it odd that it was "Coming of of the Closet" week.  If true I would ask, is there a week to celebrate athletics? Or do some of the "open-minded" students feel that there is more than enough celebration of sports on campus.  This a story as old as Cane and Abel.  That said, PC has at least provided a mechanism to change attitudes some of which needed to be change.  More often than not PC is used to make an example of someone...whether they be in the spot light or not.  What Yordi did, if any of what has been posted is true, will need to be addressed.  However, it should fit the transgression. I didnt say crime because we dont really know if it was a passing verbal comment, a verbal lashing out, or a verbal lashing out with implied physical harm.  Part of growing up is learning that our actions will have consequences.  Suckow and Yordi are learning this actively now.  I believe that all people regardless of race, gender, age or sexual preference should be allowed to be the best they can be.  However, PC has allowed...no promoted alternative lifestyles as correct positions.  Its the little lies that we buy into that later become social norms and laws.  Most state laws defined marriage as the union of a man and a woman, however as we know that is beginning to change.  And if a recent news story is to be believed within 30 years we will be marrying robots.  The real issue with Yordi is the manner in which he made his comments.  When the court rules on this he should be appropiately punished.  I suspect it has already been used to make a political PC and social statement well beyond the scope of Yordi's intent.  Nevertheless he will suffer the consequences.

Alrighty then....on to more enjoyable topics.

Loras over UD.  Loras is probably the best 2-6 team in the nation.  Other than the UIU game I don't think they have lost by more than 10 points this season.  Plus, it's a rivalry game between UD/Loras.

For those who have said on here that Coe and Wartburg is not a fierce rivalry......see the last 20 pages on this board.

Coe v Cornell is not a rivalry.  To be a rivalry, both teams need to show the ability to win every once and a while against the other.  Kind of like how the Yankees and Red Sox were not really rivals for most of the 90's and early 2000's because the Yankees beat the crap out of Boston almost every time they met.

Just starting the Coe v Cornell talk a little early.

Now THAT is smack talk at its finest WH.

Coe VS Cornell not a rivalry? It is only the oldest one on this side of the Mississippi. Every rivalry will have a period where one team goes on a winning streak and dominates the rivalry. Just an example of that is the Iowa/Iowa State rivalry. I think Coe is at six or seven straight over Cornell. Cornell went on a similar streak in the 90's as well. With Dillon back at Cornell the Rivalry will only get better.

Agreed.  Luther vs. Coe is, by most people's comments, a coin flip game so neither team winning would be considered an upset.  Simpson hasn't done much of anything this year and Cornell is winless in conference.  And they are playing the top 2 teams in the conference this weekend.  Loras beating UD would be an upset and it could happen...
Go Norse!!!

Norsedad

definately the 2 best games this week

Coe/Luther......the Norse D has been getting better and better and with Sherden healthy Luther takes it to Coe.

Loras/UD....Loras has shown some signs of power but UD has more talent.  UD takes it.

Good luck tonight dbjay....condors paste the yorkies

Maybe Yordi is sturggling with his own sexuality and feels threatened around gay men because he does not want to give into his urges.  It must be hard coming to terms with your own sexuality if you grow up in a small town where that type of lifestyle is not talked about.  I wish him luck on his journey towards his own truth.  I don't think you should persecute someone who is simply confused about their own feelings.  The gay community should embrace Yordi and understand his struggle.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I have not seem this video, nor do I have the ability to watch it where I am working.  However, I doubt that they would show the sexual assault and rape of a young woman on youtube.  That is the alleged charge they will be hit with.  Everson and Satterfield.

AGAIN, RUMOR, FROM A GOOD SOURCE, BUT RUMOR.
