Won't get into my sons recruiting  trip to Central. Just want to say good luck to all the IIAC teams today and to no one getting hurt.

Thats a relief because it'll just become more of the same "Oh ya, your school sux" that we've heard from Wartburg and Coe for months now.

Bottom line, kids go to campus visits looking for a place to live, study and play for 4 years of their life.  Sometimes they don't even know what makes it happen for one place and not another.  Its hardly an exact science.

I do know kids don't come to Pella thinking its the best party school of the IIAC!!!  I tend to think a secret to their success is the focus on the football (and the academics?) these kids are there for.  Do they party, oh ya.  Is it a factor in their decision making, probably not.  Are all of us who spent 4 years and graduated from a program going to be happy with that program and support it whenever we can, I woudl hope so.  thats what we're doing here.

It's Saturday, lets get it between the white lines and play ball!  Go Dutch

And good luck to everybody, even the RAMS. (but not too much)

I love football as much as anyone ... can be found every Friday night at a game in our area ... get to college games in any Division whenever I can ... am sorry I don't live closer to IIAC games ... and experience great disappointment with every UD loss.  However ... I think football and war make for lousy comparisons.  Our son spent 16 months in Iraq ... 12 on the Syrian border and 4 as the first of the "surge" in Baghdad.  Trash-talking, talking smack, and waiting for Iowa Conference football scores (especially UD's) is nothing like waiting to hear if the Army unit that came under sniper fire, was "IED-ed" or was hit by RPGs was in his area or was his unit.  We can talk all we want to about rivalries, recruiting paractices, MVPs, wins-and-losses, and Conference champtionships ... but it pales beside real life-and-death matters.

Football is football ... war is war ... and if we played more football and fought less wars ... all of us would be better off.

Peace ...

Go Spartans ... Beat Loras.

When I was in Waverly for Homecoming I was talking about going to the game with some of my college buddies, and one friend openly admitted he wasn't going (which floored me) because beside me and "The Hurricane" Thomsen and Mr. "All-American Academic" Goose and a couple of other guys on the team, the football players "were di*kheads" (not sure what if any explicit words are allowed on the board).

Your buddie didn't get arrrested for that comment, did he?...I am not saying that Yordi did nothing wrong, but I would tend to agree more with WH comments on the incident.....Re: football players being dh's, many teams, groups will have their share of them!!!!

who the heck is still mowing...I put the mower up 2 weeks ago

Between all the rain we have been getting along with having the flu I think it has been 3 or 4 weeks since I have mowed.  Or at least it looks like it has been that long.

I decided to get the UD good luck charm going early and have already mowed the back yard.  I will finish the front yard and ditches if the Spartans are losing at halftime today.

Oh, I'm probably back to 95%.  Though I notice with age it takes me longer to recover from even simple things.

My wife just left with our girls for dance class and our son is napping.  I actually get to watch and talk football now!!!  Of course the Hawkeyes are down 10-0 so nothing really to get too excited over yet.

One of my players that I coached a few years back is now at Northern Illinois University and is playing DE.  He did two tours in Iraq as a Marine.  He was a very shy kid in high school, but when he got done with the Marines and his tours in Iraq, something changed.  He came to visit me in Chicago with his family one weekend.  After not seeing him for four years, he was a different person.  He gave everyone of us (my family and friends) a big hug and was truly grateful to see everyone.  And he would have never done that before the Marine Corps.  And as a friend and coach, I was truly grateful that he made it back unharmed.

DBQ1965...you have a great perspective on things.  I am glad that your son made it back unharmed.  +K to you for keeping things in perspective and for trying to help others on the board to do the same  :)

Norsedad

sorry doolittle...Im an ISU fan and so our only thing to brag about is the Iowa game and that we are doing secret experiments at the Vet school involving heifers and NW Iowa farmboys.  Oh and the cathode tube computer and a few varieties of roses.   ::)

We got beat by a good football team.  Mother Nature didn't help us out any...it rained the entire first half after raining hard the night before so the sloppy field slowed the Condors down and made our speed a non-factor.  York is a disciplined football team and they pounded us in the slop with their big offensive line.  They had the luxury of having 22 different starters...not one of the players plays on both sides of the ball.  But that is what you get sometimes.  In all honesty, they are a better football team and they probably would have won in good conditions, but it would have been more of a game.  Final score 35-12.

At least we have the Prep Bowl to play for... :)
