I would love to see Dubuque and St Olaf get in. Both teams are explosive enough to play with most everyone on their good days, but that won't happen for all the reasons that have been given. I just don't think their is any chance of a two loss IIAC team getting in, it just isn't in the numbers.
There are currently 33 teams that are either undefeated or have one loss. There are already 3 teams with two losses that will get AQs, with the possibility of a few more. Also a good chance that 1 pool B team will drop down and take a pool C spot. If my math is correct, at the very least, 4 of the current undefeated and one loss teams won't get in. Thats to say nothing about some of the two loss teams from (power conferences) that probably will get in.

Not so much. Not every undefeated or 1 loss team is from a conference that plays in the playoffs. The way d3 is set up is not just the top 33 teams or whatever depending on records.

I was just wanting to know what people thought selection committees went through in their thinking.  In my opinion Dubuque would not deserve to get in having lost to both Central and Wartburg.  I was just going off of seeing Dubuque ranked higher in one poll and from seeing basketball playoff brackets where teams that finished lower in the conference but now on a longer winning streak than a higher placed team get in over that team or at least get a higher seed in the bracket.

Again, I wasn't saying I thought Dubuque SHOULD get in, I was just wondering if anyone thought the selection committee might think that could be the case even though that wouldn't make any sense to those that follow the IIAC.  Hope that made sense.

footballdaddy,

I accept.  We can agree to disagree.  Your typing is fine by me.  I think that we all make mistakes that way.  I hope you and your family have nothing but the best as well.

You are correct DutchHawk, two of those 33 teams are from the NESCAC which doesn't take part in the post season. I understand that they don't just take the 32 best records. Of the 22 AQs, 18 or 19 will go to conference champs who will be undefeated or have one loss, the other 3 or 4 to conference champs with two or more losses. If we were talking about IIAC teams with two losses. we are talking about the seven pool C spots. I probably didn't explain myself very well, but the jist of it is, there will be several one loss teams and two loss teams from traditionally strong conferences competing for those seven spots.

Thunderbolt,

There may be a chance for a two loss IIAC team to get in this year.  The WIAC runner up and may be the MIAC runner up will have two losses as well as the NWC champ may have two losses.  This is kind of a cray year.  The IIAC may be the one left out but the math is there to allow it this year.

I'd love to see it, but I'm afraid the only way we get two in is for you guys to hold the door open for the Knights. I do think the WIAC could very easily have a 2nd place team with three losses. The two loss teams play head to head, then one travels to LaCrosse and the other goes to Stout. Ya gotta love this time of year.

footballdaddy

Thanks to the guys who had my back.  I'd give +k if I could. The differences of opinions here are what makes this all fun. We all get to learn more about each other and maybe some students will have their college decisions made easier by what we say here.

But still........

Can anyone please explain to me why on the IIAC website that it states Central has already  clinched a share of the IIAC title.  If I look at the last two weeks of the season.

Wartburg plays Cornell.  Lets assume for a minute that the Knights win and go into the last week of the season playing Central.  They are both undefeated in the conference and the wartys only loss comes to non conference augsburg.

Now due to the process of elimination if wartburg beats cornell and central in the last two weeks of the season, isnt wartburg the outright IIAC champion?

I appologize in advance if I am missing the boat on this.  Please explain.

Thunderbolt - I got ya...just wanted to make sure we were all clear. I think Wartburg has a fairly descent shot at getting in when they lose to Central in 2 weeks but they would undoubtedly be the 8 seed and get the undesirable trip to Whitewater. I hope that happens...need to see 2 IIAC teams in again!

Klop - must be a mistake on the IIAC website...if Warty beats Cornell then its winner take all on the 10th.

footballdaddy - No hard feelings, just a little defensive of the alma mater. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and everyone should be defensive of their old team!

Kloppy-
That is not accurate. If Wartburg wins out, they are the conf. champs. The website is treating Wartburg's loss to Augsburg like it is a conf loss.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

DutchFan2004

I think it is possible that St Norberts will be the #8 seed.  They may look at the losses by Wartburg and Bethel or Central or St Johns as better competition and give them the #8 seed as they are already in Wis. are they not.  The committee may feel that St Norberts is the #8 team reguardless of record.  I don't disagreed with the other comments but just wanted to point out that that may be a possibility.

Thunderbolt,

was not arguing your points just pointing out the other possibilities.

No sweat DutchFan2004, I'm half proud you decided to respond to me with your 1000th post. So you and Walston must have had some interesting chat, back in the day. Wish I was savvy enough to dig some of that up.

Random thoughts:

Even if UD wins out, I doubt they will make the play-off field as I can't see three teams from one Conference.

I too wish they would play a little stronger non-Conference schedule, although Rockford College didn't live up to some of its pre-season hype and last year's momentum ... but Wisconsin Lutheran  was a gimme.  Still, considering where UD football has been, "confidence builders" probably helped the team's psyche but not their strength of schedule and rankings.

Finally, when was the last time a IIAC team made it past the first round of the playoffs?

Go Spartans.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Alright Norsse, Dutch, and Spartian....Get behind your men because I want to start a little premature conference MVP talk.  A lot can change in the last two weeks of the season, but I think we know who the studs have been this year.

Tyler Sherden:  1,151 rushing yards on 227 carries.  He has a 5.1 avg per carry.  He is also good for 205 all purpose yards a game.  After watching Luther play with him and seeing Luther play without him there is no doubt that he might be the most important part of any IIAC team.

Tim Connell:  163/275 for 2,235 yards 25/7 TD/INT ratio and has rushed for 107 yards.  With the injuries to Schuring this year there is no doubt that the Dutch needed him to step up and play his game.  For the past two season it has been more the Schuring show on the ground with Connell using his passing when needed.  I know he has a nice cast of charecters to throw to down there and can make him look good.  Thats what the game is all about.  He also has a solid bend but not break deffense behind him.

Jemar Jackson:  831 rushing yards, 1,646 passing yards, 2,477 yards to total offense this year.  He is averging 309 yards of total offense this year.  This kid has been one of the biggest reasons that UD has seen a turn around.  I watched him play in his sophmore season and it was appearant how good he might be.  UD has had a tremendous season by my standards and came up short in a couple big games.

Pick it apart.  Throw it around, drag it through the mud.  I can argue for each one of these kids.  I know this award usually goes to the top player on the top team.  I think we can make a case that UD is not at this point with out Jackson and Luther hasnt not made some recent noise with out Sherden.  I am not trying to down play Connell accomplishments as they have been good.  I just would like to hear some imput from the board.

Also, lets talk about the top defender in the IIAC this year.  Mashburn from UD, Pierce from BV, Hall from Loras?  What does everyone think?

Our team got knocked out of the playoff hunt in week 8. Solon and Tipton are very good. Our other loss this year was to Starmont; and A-P found out how good they were in week 9.

Show--looks like I'll be driving to Carrol on Wed. to help my good friend Penner again. Good luck at Hampton.

Aren't you forgetting about another loss.  I'm thinking particularly about the one that ruined your homecoming...

Nice try Sportsknight...I've worked 15 miles west for 2 years now. We ruined YOUR alma mater's homecoming this year.
