Congrats to ALL IIAC seniors who will be playing the last home game of their college career this weekend...especially the Rams' seniors.

Fellas, it's been a pleasure to watch you compete these past two years.

Good luck in your future endeavors and may we see your comments on this board as ardent supporters of your alma maters in the seasons to come.

:)

OK, last time. Since people seem to want to make this out to be an "its convenient to suspend him for Cornell week" issue.
There was something else that came about with the issue this week that brought about the suspension. How long is it? No one knows at this point. This new "development" came about earlier this week and is why Yordi is sitting. Had it happened in an isolated incident, there would be no suspension, but in light of what happened several weeks back, the suspension was handed down. There have been no further problems with the law and nothing illegal has been done.

SteelerFan-
As much as I love the IIAC, I totally agree with #1, except you've got your numbers off. In 2002 we beat Lake Forest in the first round and I think Coe won in the first round that year as well. The IIAC is actually 3-9 since 2001. 2 wins by Wartburg and 1 by Coe. What's your problem with Koehler? It sounds like this isn't the only time you've disagreed with him.

DutchHawk- I'm not sure I understand your #3???

I'll be honest with you guys-With what Yordi did to get arrested, as a coach I'd tell him to meet me after practice, we'd get some running in and I'd tell him not to do it again.
Its one thing to drink and drive, its one thing to hit someone, its one thing to deface property.
That stuff everyone knows is illegal.
Before the last couple weeks, I had no idea one could get arrested for namecalling, and I'd be surprised if anyone else here did either.

As the trooper would say as he scribbled the ticket for 65 mph in a 45 "ignorance of the law is no excuse"
Anyone paying attention to legislative actions and working in the education field should be aware of and informing their charges of the new law.

AND - if he was arrested and an internal investigation led to a suspension, you know and and have shared with us, this is not an isolated incident.  Props to Wartburg for moving forward and doing the right thing, regardless of how many weeks it is.

Old Dutch-
As I re-read my post, I didn't make it clear enough.
Had the different incident that happened this week been isolated, no one would have batted an eye at it.

I totally agree with you WH.

Call me what you will, tell me I'm in cahoots with the rest of Wartburg for winning at all costs, whatever... but this decision has the smell of a PC move at the cost of a young man who made a mistake.  We do much worse things on this board than calling each other offensive names... and we take it with a grain of salt.  While most of us know better than to put ourselves in the same situation as Mr. Yordi, we all have also been 19 in our lives and know that things get said.

I know I sound like a broken record here as this has gotten said over and over again... but what's up with the conspiracy talks now?  I seem to remember after this story was broken everyone agreed that nothing needed to be done until legal proceedings were handled.  That would've put this suspension (if required) at the beginning of next season at the earliest.  I'm surprised more posters aren't applauding the institution for being proactive instead of assuming he's suspended just for the Cornell game.  It is just like any David vs Goliath... this takes even more focus off the game to be played (along with the ineviatable young guys looking ahead to Central), and this makes Cornell that much tougher of a game to go out and perform in.  No matter when this suspension is handed down, it is detrimental to the team.

One last thing... I personally take offense that anyone would think that ANY IIAC school would have a "win at all costs" attitude.  Get real.

Old Dutch... thanks for your input.  I know there are others on the board that are in the same boat as you...... but had to rant.

Agreed.

Plus, many of us have played football in the past.  We know that when it comes to being on the field for practice or a game there is going to be yelling and things being said.  We have all developed thick skin.  I say it all the time to my bosses....just tell me when I am doing something wrong.  I have spent 8 years of my life with coaches yelling at me when I mess up.  Not ALWAYS negative things being said, but at times.  Now I'm not saying that gives Yordi (or any other football player) the right to degrade or insult other people, but I can understand how he (as an athlete) can make a comment and not see it has a major insult.  There are plenty of sensitive people in the world, I think football is one way many young men learn to take comments and criticism so they can learn from it.

Good luck to all the IIAC schools out there tomorrow.  With Yordi out, I do think Cornell has a shot at an upset.  We have seen it happen already this year.  Suckow has been on a roll lately and the Knights Def. is still as strong as ever.  Cornell does have two backs in the top 10 for rushing and a QB at the top of the bottom teams statistically speaking.  Should be an exciting game down in Mount Vernon tomorrow.

GO KNIGHTS!

Wait up a bit -  you might want to rethink this one.  Because he's an athelte its OK if he gets lost in emotion and yells explitives or degrading names at Joe Citizen.  I thought we all supported the student athlete as a priviledged individual.  That priviledge is a repsonsibility not a right to boorish behavior.  Any FB player who thinks that's acceptable is an insult to the rest of us.  Correct me if I misinterpreted.

Grass really didn't grow too much this week.  But...I left a bit of the ditch untouched last weekend.  So if things turn sour in Storm Lake tomorrow I can run out and finish off the ditch.  At that point I am probably done for the year unless we get some warm weather.

Correct me if I misinterpreted.

I knew my post might come out sounding a bit wrong.

I posted:
"I'm not saying that gives Yordi (or any other football player) the right to degrade or insult other people"

What I meant by my post is that football players have thick skin.  Things said on the football field or comments made in the heat of the moment by our coaches or other players have kind of made us immune to insults or negative comments.  It is ALWAYS the players responsibility to put that thinking and mentality on hold once he steps off the field and takes off the cleats.  All I was trying to say is that I can understand how Yordi might (MIGHT) have made that comment and didn't mean to offend anyone because a similar comment made towards him, he could just brush it off.

Football players and all other athletes are definitely held to a higher standard...and should be.  Just like the student body presidents or other "public" figures on campus.  So I am not saying it is alright to "get lost in emotion and yell explitives or degrading names at Joe Citizen".  And I definitely think he needs to suffer some consequences so he can learn from his actions.  This could be a very good lesson to teach him how to control those emotions...might even help him on the field when things aren't looking so good.  He can learn to control those emotions and try to change the game around.

I hope that better explains my point.  Even though I am a Knight supporter, I would much rather see Yordi and the rest of the football players in D3 take away more than just a win or conference championship from playing football at this level.

Alright Wartburg get ready for a "Cornell" Taunting when you try to enter Ash Park!

How you Wartburgers say, I one more time, unclog my nose in your direction, sons of a window-dresser! So, you think you could out-clever us Cornell folk with your silly knees-bent running about in dancing behavior! I wave my private parts at your aunties, you heaving lot of second hand electric donkey bottom biters.
