Some players on the undefeated Wartburg squad of 1999 had an incident in a dorm prior to the Simpson game.  (Simpson was a significant game in those years.)  Coach Willis made the decision to leave some starters on the curb when the bus headed out to Simpson.  A couple players named Devine and Laing stepped up and lead the Knight defense to a 42-10 victory over the Storm.

My guess is someone will step up and fill Yordi's shoes this week.  I would also guess the Knights will be playing with a chip on their shoulders.  This whole incident, whether warranted or not, has reflected on everyone involved with the program.  The other 149 players on the team have some how paid a price for either political correctness or human justice.  Somebody is going to pay and it might just be the Rams.

OK, last time. Since people seem to want to make this out to be an "its convenient to suspend him for Cornell week" issue.
There was something else that came about with the issue this week that brought about the suspension. How long is it? No one knows at this point. This new "development" came about earlier this week and is why Yordi is sitting. Had it happened in an isolated incident, there would be no suspension, but in light of what happened several weeks back, the suspension was handed down. There have been no further problems with the law and nothing illegal has been done.

SteelerFan-
As much as I love the IIAC, I totally agree with #1, except you've got your numbers off. In 2002 we beat Lake Forest in the first round and I think Coe won in the first round that year as well. The IIAC is actually 3-9 since 2001. 2 wins by Wartburg and 1 by Coe. What's your problem with Koehler? It sounds like this isn't the only time you've disagreed with him.

DutchHawk- I'm not sure I understand your #3???

I'll be honest with you guys-With what Yordi did to get arrested, as a coach I'd tell him to meet me after practice, we'd get some running in and I'd tell him not to do it again.
Its one thing to drink and drive, its one thing to hit someone, its one thing to deface property.
That stuff everyone knows is illegal.
Before the last couple weeks, I had no idea one could get arrested for namecalling, and I'd be surprised if anyone else here did either.

Thanks for agreeing with me WH - I missed the year when Coe and Wart won.  3-8 in the Post-season since 2000; and no wins in the last 3 years.

It seems to me that this isnt a PC move by the Wartburg administration. I would doubt they would suspend him indefinitely over just this incident. Granted Im not trying to make it less than it is, he did get arrested, but I would seem to think either this incident is more serious than we all know about or he has a past with the coaches and administration. I think the administration is doing the right think in suspending him in that I believe it has to be more serious than we all think/know. They are avoiding a black eye on a good program if it should come out during the playoffs publicly that there are more serious series of events for Yordi. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Should be an interesting game in MV today, Ill be making the drive up since its just 30 minutes and the Hawks are on the road, not much else to do with a Dutch bye. I still think Wartburg is much to good to let this slow them down against Cornell...unless they are too concerned about Central. Look for a slow start by the Knights but the D will kick it in high gear.

Cornell is still going to have to score to win--something very few teams have been able to do this year.

Wartburg's loss to Augsburg seemed to light a fire under them.  THey are a fun offensive team to watch and have played quite well since the upset.

Re: Yordi, I am not so sure there is another "incident", rather continuation of the original investigation.

The idea they were waiting until the Cornell game is ridiculous along with the "win at all costs" comments!!!

With that being said - Go Knights!!! Take care of business the next 2 weeks!!

The One:

I see your point and understand exactly what your saying, even agree up to point where it sounded as if you said - as a football player he is likely to talk like that on the field and so its no surprise he's like that off it - I kind of get riled when anyone implies its just those dumb football players being bullies again.

I too can understand his mistake, in that he's 19 or 20 and in a PC climate he may not have grown up in, so he didn't realize the severity of his actions.   Its all a part of gaining that liberal arts education.

Its too bad atheltes have to get punished twice for an offense, once by the cops and once by his coaches, but that is expected for highy visible atheltes and Wartburg, has, I believe, done the right thing.

Have a great game day everybody, and good luck to all.

Rams can't be concerned with who's not playing, good teams are supposed to be about stepping up when needed.  Wartburg is a good team.

Cornell needs to be prepared for the Kaniggets best shot.  No doubt the Wartburg coaches will be pumping up the defense to step it up.  Wartburg's defense has really been their foundation anyway.

Rams need to hold it together and weather an early storm of Wartburg blitzes and slants.  If we can break a cheapie on an all out blitz then we can gain some confidence.

I see field position early being the key.  I am not sure the Rams are going to be able to sustain many long drives against Wartburg.  Our freshman QB still has to read through the blitzes and such...that'll be a challenge.

That said, if he somehow slips through into the secondary...Wartburg will find out the kid has some giddy-up.

I would still like to see the Rams shorten up the passing game a bit and move the ball around more...quick throws against the blitz could break long on a missed tackle with 1:1 on the outside.

Defensively, if Cornell can consistently stop the run and not give up big chunks of yards on the ground.  Try to make the back-up QB make plays and maybe mistakes will follow.

Cornell must play mistake free.  Wartburg has the luxury of not having to do so.

Go Rams!!

I said that because I believe it was WH or some other poster that said they believed he had trouble with administration last year. Read the whole posts.

Actually, I said I had never heard anything about Yordi before.  It was someone not affiliated with Wartburg at all that said they had heard about problems with him last year.

I was talking about this year & the current incident(s). It had nothing to do with last year or directed at your post DutchHawk. It was more in reference to what happened this past week.

WH... Took the trip over to Mt. Vernon on Tuesday night this week to look at wedding photographers... don't think I could stomach 2 trips to Mt. Vernon in one week :)  Granted, I have to drive past Coe's campus every day on my way to work, so a trip to the scenic area that is Cornell might get some of the filth washed off :)

Go Knights... keep it simple today.  You've won for years with screen passes and a dominant running game and defense... no reason to change the recipe today.

Anyone else think today that TeKippe is kicking himself for leaving WB?  He finally might have gotten his shot today with the Knights :)  Just kidding Coe fans... I'm pretty good friends with T from his days at WB.  Had some interesting talks with that guy... if you are one of his friends reading this, make sure he tells you the story of the night he got lost in Iowa City.  Wow... I've never stayed interested in a 2+ hour story before... but it was HILARIOUS!!!
