Looks like Wartburg did enough to day to get the job done. Cornell didnt look good at all and the Knights seemed flat at times. Suckow came out after the first play on a run with a tweaked ankle and didnt go in the rest of the game although that is definitely the right move, they didnt need him today at all. Van Rees saw limited action, he isnt the runner Hammes was by any means. Phalen looked to play alright although its tough to judge against the competition. Wartburg worked with a short field on most of their scores which was beneficial as Cornell couldnt punt to save their lives. They also threatened twice in the first half and couldnt finish those drives either. Should be a good game next week. Central averages almost 40 points per game and Wartburg gives up 7...somethings gotta give!

Devine you calm down...were on here to speculate and all and you would be doing the same thing if it was a Central player! haha If he plays next week it will look very suspicious in my book. Didnt see him on the sidelines today but also dont know what he looks like.
Do you have a score?

I wish I could make it to the game, guess I'll settle for trying to get it online if it's working by then.  WH or Sportsknight, can you work on the IT people there to get things squared away?

I'm in the same boat as you D.D.  I would love to make it down to Waverly next weekend for the conference championship game, but due to a switch in jobs I will need to stay in WI all weekend.  On a plus side I might run into WH's younger brother a bit more at the new job and I get to work more sports than news.

Maybe A.E.N. can talk to some one over in the KWAR studios.  Possibly Jim O. could be on hand to help keep the internet broadcast going next weekend.

Good luck to the Knights next weekend....this will be one of the best games in D3 all year!

The Kohawks played as complete a football game as they have all season today, crushing Loras 45-24. Way to go fellas! Let's end this on a high note by squashing the Lambs next week.

You already know the score of the Luther / Simpson game....47-41 in 2 overtimes.

Tyler Sherden scored the first touchdown of the game and the last one to win it.  The first was 16 seconds into the game and the last closed the second overtime.  Luther lead 27-10 at halftime but Simpson dominated the third quarter and part of the fourth, catching up to put it into overtime.

In overtime, Luther scored from the one, Simpson scored on a pass from the 25.  Second overtime, Simpson missed a field goal and Luther scored a TD on their first possession.

All in all a good game of evenly matched teams.   Also, 29 seniors were honored along with Coach Bob Nasland who is retiring after coming to Luther as a student in 1960.  He was head football coach from 1978-95.

Phelan was 14-22 for 216...Not bad for a backup

As mentioned, Suckow hobbled off and didn't return. 1 catch for 1 yard.
Knights with a convincing win playing shorthanded.

congrats to Sherden that is a great game.

Now that the setup is for November 10 and the IIAC championship game between the Warts and Central..........(pause)........I have to pick Central to do in the Warts.

Admittedly, I only saw both teams early in the season (when they both beat the Norse), but it seems to me that the Central style of minimizing mistakes, a rangy defense, a TOUGH QB who seems to withstand multiple knockdowns and "out of the world" punter will dominate a grind-it-out offense.....regardless whether or not Yordi plays.  Wartburg will be set on its heels and be working out of poor field position.  They will gain ground but will not be able to get into Central territory beyond the 30 more than twice.

Central 21  Wartburg 14

Walston Hoover

Obviously I'm going to pick the Knights here, but I am calling this right now.
If Central wins it will be under 8 point margin.
If Wartburg wins it will be 17+ margin.

Wasnt as impressed with the vaunted Wartburg D today. The fullback dive ate them up a bit but Dillon went away from it. If its a shootout I give it to the Dutch...the Knights need a defensive battle...more to come!
