Coe-Cornell trivia: Coe owns an 11-6 advantage in recent series history dating back to 1990. Cornell had won five straight over Coe from 1995-99 until Coe was victorious each of the last seven years. In his eighth season as head coach of the Kohawks, Erik Raeburn is undefeated against Cornell.

Incidentally, Coe's longest winning streak over Cornell was from 1950-60 when they won 11 straight. Cornell's longest winning streak over Coe is six games, which happened twice (1907-1912 and 1945-49).
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Not taking sides in the Coe/Cornell matchup but as a wise old Iowa coach (Hayden Fry) once stated the longer you beat a team more the chances are that you get beat by that team in the future.  No one wins forever.

It is fun to keep winning don't get me wrong but that is true sooner or later a Cornell win is coming.

Yes, I will be in attendance this weekend.  I'll definitely make it over and say hello to the DF2k4 family...IF I can get my father-in-law to quit gushing about how great Wartburg's new facilities are yada yada yada!!!!  The problems one has when your in-laws are Warthog Alums!

Make sure to walk through it. Its pretty nice.

You come to Wartburg to play for championships

DutchHawk

I dont think DF04 was throwing stats out, just making a point that there isnt a huge statistical difference in sacks given up and taken by each team. Connell has some amazing escapability that if the Knights do get pressure against a young oline of Centrals he can still hurt you. Probably as fast as a lot of the linebackers in the conference.

I watched Wartburg - Cornell and with the way the Wartburg supporters were talking I expected to see a defense that flew around and killed people. They did hit, definitely more than cornell, but they didnt blow me away by any means. There is only one stat that matters this year and its who gets the W on Saturday.
30 IIAC Championships
20 Division III Playoff Appearances

Hate to say it but it was the tackle's fault.  After the first punt was blocked it set the tone for the rest of the game.  Anyone who doesn't think that momentum looms large in college football doesn't know the game.
[/quote]

I know how big a factor momentum is in college football, but I still don't think you can blame all 3 punt blocks on the one guy.  By that logic, if a guy gives up a sack in the first quarter, he is then responsible for every sack given up the rest of the game, just because he 'set the tone'?

WH-
I realize everyone practices special teams.  I guess what i was trying to get at more was that it's not a secret punt-block scheme that no one can figure out, and that it is by no means 'unstoppable.'

Footballdaddy-
I think the punt block/special teams talk stemmed from the discussion of the last several Central/Wartburg games and wasn't intended (at least on my part) to imply that Central is gonna block 12 punts against Wartburg.  We can all toss around any stats we want, and that's about all we an do until kickoff.

I'm sure it is, I just didn't realize junk (bonds) could build something so nice!

doolittledog

Damn those junk bonds!!! I guess Wartburg will go the way of Westmar and Parsons.  Schools that went out of business.  Shut down due to poor management.  Good bye Wartburg, hello Waldorf.  Get rid of one Lutheran school, bring another Lutheran school in.  And they both start with W!!!

Or maybe not.  I am in Waverly a lot due to my work and the Wartburg campus is impressive to look at.  Their enrollment seems to be fine, just so those students get jobs after school and then start giving loads of money to their alma mater!!!

I think Dubuque almost going under 8 years ago helped pull the alumni together and the giving to UD has been incredible.  Their new wellness center won't be up to Wartburg standards but will be close.

Good luck to all the IIAC teams this weekend.  I mentioned to my wife that I should take our son up to Waverly this weekend to check out the big game and I was met with a deafening silence.  So we will see if I am able to make it up this weekend.  It should be a good game.

as far as the WB-Central games-  from what I remember, it seems that one team will pretty much dominate for an entire half and then it will flip after half time or stay pretty even.

Walston, agree?  that's the way it seemed to me from 98-00' anyway, can't speak as much on the games since then.

I'm not Walston, but I can say that the 02-05 were somewhat the same.  Momentum played a larger role in the Wartburg games that I was involved in than games we had with any other team.

02- Tight until the McIntyre(sp?) pick-6.
03 - Let's not go there.  Wartburg's d-line was absolutely sick.
04 - First play from scrimmage set the tone and it was an uphill battle from there.  Wartburg probably dominated the stats, but Central still had an opportunity to win it at the end.
05 - Both teams moved the ball well, but the kick return and blocked punts were huge for momentum.
06 - Wasn't playing, but I saw that one as more of a back and forth affair than a game with huge momentum shifts.  Wartburg just had too far to drive almost every time they got the ball, thanks to Vermeer.
07 - ???? I expect a close game either way.  I've come to expect a close game (win) no matter who Central has on the schedule.

Airborne Dutch

If you want to argue about the sack vs. blocked punt, look what Central usually does with a blocked punt. They return for a TD. Plus, the momentum shift is huge. Yes, sacks are nice, but 95% of the time it just results in a loss of field position. Either way, as Around the Region puts it, its gonna come down to who makes the fewer mistakes and is able to capitalize.

Rhino, what was your number at Central?

Also, a small request for Saturday. If someone could give pretty detailed updates throughout the game, I would really appreciate it. The only way I can follow is on here. I could try a TACSAT radio, but something tells me it just won't go 7,000 miles.

Airbourne,

You can listen live on knia krls.com  The have a live feed.  My mom listens in Omaha all the time.  So if you are by a computer you can get it.  I believe from what I was told that Rhino05's number was 76.  That comes second hand but from some one very close to the team.

How is your tour going?  I hope you have been safe.  I hope you can get the game over the net.  I would give you updates but I will be at the game.  I think Dutch Radio has been giving updates on here too if memory serves.

Sportsknight,

The Cornell game has not been on yet.  The game is still the UD game.  Can you get that fixed so we can download it before the Wartburg game gets up?  Thanks.
