Coe-Cornell trivia: the oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi started in 1891 in a cow pasture with a creek running along the 50-yard line. Cows had to be driven off the field before the game could start. There have been only five years since when Coe and Cornell didn't not play each other - 1895, 1896, 1899 and during the war years of 1943 and 1944. The teams have played each other twice in 1900, 1902, 1903, 1918 and 1945.

Had I said this about the Coe cheerleaders then the rain of -k from the Kochicken nation would be falling for weeks.   :D

Good job everybody on the posting...have been very busy at work lately...have lots to catch up on.

Didn't like the way the Kaniggets were treated by the playoff analysis.  Warties may need to root for Cal Lu, too.

I feel playing time at Central is earned through hard work, my son started Varsity sophmore year, only started 3 games in Jr. year and then only ran special plays for the rest of the year.  He could have caved and quit but didn't.  He found out what was needed and expected if he wanted to start his senior year.  He busted a.. and ended his sr. year as an All- American

Again, exception, not the norm. Who was your son?
Playing time anywhere is earned through talent and hard work. There's not the politics involved in college ball that there is in HS ball.

He was the left guard last year.

The players that you put out on the field should be the ones that give you the best chance to succeed...regardless of age.   Someone mentioned that 90 kids in a class would raise some red flags.....to me, that represents a good job of recruiting/selling your program to high school kids.  A LOT of kids out of high school may want to go to a place like Wartburg or Central because they want to be apart of a winning program.

Welcome back Heys, There is a cure for being busy at work you know. Priorities man. I don't think this came as any surprise to most Knight fans or IIAC fans. Wartburg has been in the playoff mode, one and done , ever since their loss to Augsberger lite.

Welcome back Purple...I wondered where you had gone.  I figured you were either busy at work or some Coe fans had kidnapped you and wouldn't release you until after this weekends game!!!

A little BV - Augsburg comparison for what it's worth...

BV is projected to finish 6-4, tied for 4th in the IIAC (outside chance to tie for 3rd).

Augsburg is projected to finish 5-5, 5th in the MIAC.

Most noticeable stat differences is that Augsburg gives up 41 points on average, BV gives up 21.

Augsburg also only averages 65 yards rushing a game, BV's at 114.  Both teams throw the ball better than they run it.

How the heck did the Knights lose again?  I have a feeling if they made the trip down to Storm Lake, they'd get throttled, especially with as well as BV is playing right now.

I wasn't saying that the large class raises red flags for me (and I think WH acknowleged that 90 was quite an overstatement).  I just think the level of attrition...going down to just 9 seniors seems a little strange.  Maybe its just that class?  On second thought it might say more about the class than the program as a whole...I'm assuming this isn't the norm at Wartburg.  Go Central this weekend!  I've only seen them once this season, and haven't seen Wartburg at all, so I can't give any kind of prediction for the game, but I'd love to see them win and make some noise in the playoffs.

old school ENP Tiger

I could be totally wrong on this but I see Central having a hard time scoring and moving the football Saturday.  I'll start my rips on Saturday after the game.  I'll be wearing red but things just are working against them...

After hanging around here for several years, I feel compelled to post for the first time.  First, I highly doubt anyone has been promised anything as an incoming recruit at Central for a long...long time.  Second...90 down to 9 at Wartburg in 4 years?  If that rate of attrition is true, with all due respect to the success Wartburg has had, that sends up some red flags for me if I'm looking at playing football there.

I agree about the supposed 'promises' made by Central's staff.  FootballDaddy has (repeatedly) made it pretty clear that he was not a fan of his son's recruiting experience at Central, and his most recent comments about the staff promising playing time to keep kids there seem unbelievable to me as well.

FWIW-
There are around 30 juniors on Wartburg's roster right now. I imagine most of them will be around next year.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Must have been a bunch of slappies starting off in the current senior class then.  Says a lot about the guys who stuck it out though.

Old Dutch

Whats all this blabber about good buildings, recruiting promises and poor bleachers;  38 hrs and 15 minutes till kick off, but who'se counting.  The essence of a great football game is the intensity and emotion on the field.  The most reliable prediction for Saturday is both sides will have a lot of that between the lines.  The slobberknockers will be everywhere and that means the team with the biggest hitters and most depth (i.e. DUTCH) will win, but it will surely be a nail biter....

It is a shame that a good Wartburg team will not make the playoffs when they lose Sat.  I would wager they are better than about 1/2 the field that does qualify, but thats the way it goes, You only lose 9 seniors so next year should create another game of the century between the Evil Empire and the Dynasty!

Good luck to all and especially all the seniors around the conference who have given us so much to cheer for and discuss this fall, especially guys like Jackson and Sherden, Gustafson, Pierce, and Hall etc etc.
