From what I've seen,Wartburgs visitor bleachers are second only to Central's. (There, I said something nice about the Dutch.)

As far as seniors staying in the program, it's commendable to have that many stay. but how many were kept there with promises of playing tme when they became seniors? Part of Central's recruiting pitch is that you may have to wait your turn to play, but you should by the time you are a senior. I personnaly heard that from the staff. So how many of those seniors have put in four years only to have to wait for a blowout to get the playing time that was alluded to when they were recruited? If I wasn't good enought to play, I would appreciate being told that early in my career so I could make my decision about staying, quitting, or transferring.

Nowhere did I say that Central promises playing time. I said it is alluded to if you stick it out. That may be splitting hairs to some, but I see the philisophical difference.

Good luck to all and especially all the seniors around the conference who have given us so much to cheer for and discuss this fall, especially guys like Jackson and Sherden, Gustafson, Pierce, and Hall etc etc.
And don't forget to include Andy TeKippe. Pound for pound the toughest football player in the league.
4 IIAC football championships

ANyone else have any new thoughts on a Friday?
Time to get the in-depth analysis of the game from people.
I'll try to get mine in over the lunch hour.
Don't forget to email me your all-conference picks by Monday at 3 guys.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I think that the game falls on Wartburg's D to stop/control Connell and the Flying Dutch.  And it starts up front.  If the Knight D line controls the line of scrimmage and can pressure Connell, I think the Knights will win the game.  If Yordi is out for the game, the offense will struggle.  And special teams will be even more of a factor in the game.  Brondyke is a great punter; Suckow is a great returner.  The field position battle will be very interesting.  I have this as an even game if its played at a neutral site...but its played at Walston Hoover Stadium so I give the Knights a slight advantage.  The Dutch won't be intimidated by the crowd or the stadium, but the crowd will help the Knights stay energized for 4 quarters of tough IIAC football... :)

As much as it pains me to do it, I will be rooting for the Knights  :-[.  A Wartburg victory gives them the AQ and Central is good enough and has a good enough resume to get a Pool C bid for the playoffs.  And I want to see two IIAC teams in the postseason and I think this is the best scenario for that to happen.

Good luck and good health to everyone.  Wish I could be at the game, but I have to coach on Saturday as the Condors are marching towards a City Championship  :)

Charlie... you really think T is pound-4-pound the toughest player in the league?  I don't doubt he's tough... he's from the West Union area... you've gotta be tough to survive THOSE mean streets... but toughest in the conference?  Nah.

Good luck to all this weekend... except to the Dutch.  I don't hope for any injuries at all to the team... just don't wish them luck :)

Prediction of the conference championship this weekend... CUI 13 - WB 27.

Wartburg promises kids PT and when they don't get it like they thought, a lot quit or transfer when they realize their playing days are over. I can think of a few North Iowa kids that this has happened to. I would say this '08 class is a pretty good example of this: 60 starting two a days in August as freshmen....to 9 finishing as seniors?

Something is not right with that.

I hope Wartburg's "D" is all you guys have built it up to be... it will be kind of a letdown after all this hype if Central runs away with it.

The talk has been amazingly civil on here this week.  With the big game in Waverly this weekend I was half expecting to see "pistols at dawn on the quad" talk from some posters.  Good luck to all teams tomorrow...but a little more so for the Spartans!!!

My plans to see the game in Waverly I believe have been dashed.  My wifes brother and sister-law are coming up here with their kids so apparently we will all be in rural Clutier at the grandparents place tomorrow chasing a bunch of kids around.  I am pulling for the "after the hawkeye game" trip over but I might even lose that argument.

Not true that they promise playing time. I know a TON of Wartburg football players that stuck it out, and that left. None ever were promised playing time. Its an easy excuse for a kid when he doesn't want to put the time in for a couple years.
Like Dutchhawk said earlier-They are all told that they will have every opportunity to start. Every kid at Wartburg know's his job isn't safe. If a guy can't get the job done, Koehler and the staff will put the best guy in there regardless of how old he is.

I heard today that starting next year Coe and Cornell are going to start a traveling trophy for the football teams. Not sure on the details of what it is going to look like but I'm pretty sure it is going to have something to do with the Lincoln Highway. Anybody from Coe know anything of this?

P.S. COE SUX!!!!!!

Let me try this again. I agree totally with you and best of luck with your team Saturday. Statistically pretty even with one glaring exception. Minus the Cornell game, the Dutch have rushed 222 times for 511 yards or 2.3 yards per attempt. Not good when your going against the best D. in the conference. VanRees on the other hand is averaging 6 yards per carry and will be going against an average run defense. I know he was injured earlier in the season, but I still don't understand why he didn't get more carries. I think he'll get a lot of chances Saturday and will allow Wartburg to control the clock and field position.

I haven't heard anything new on this since Cornell spurned Coe's efforts to get it started in recent years. It would be appropriate to start next year though, since the game is in Mount Vernon. That way the "traveling" trophy would at least have the opportunity to travel back to Cedar Rapids.

On the surface this situation appears completely out of control.  Having no knowledge of the incident was someone thoroughly threatened as a result of the derogatory use of words?  The kid had to be fined and suspended?  How 'bout just a little chit chat in the principals office.  Jeesch.   :-\

Credit to ESPN's "College Gameday" for going to a D3 game this week.  Too bad they picked the wrong one.  Nothing against Williams and Amherst, I know they've been playing each other since the dawn of time.  But you'd think that if ESPN was going to make the gesture to cover a D3 game, they'd go to one with some meaning (like the game in  Waverly).
