which comment are you referring to?

I didn't fall, but yes, i've been hit in the head many times

"connell tried to spike ball and evidently dropped it? Can I get a witness?  they were saying it looked like it slipped out of his hands and Central recovered it.   the clock would have expired for OT in that case."

Devine I will be your witness. I just got back from the game. Was able to see 2nd half. The PI was a bad call. Ball not catchable.... MAYBE d-hold but probably should have been a no call. The spike was a FFUMMMMMMMMBBBBBBBBLLLLLLLLe. Connell NEVER had control.  Wartburg struggled running but receivers were open. The pick in 3rd quarter the ball sailed over open receiver and d-back was off an ball ended up in his arms.

Wartburg cheated, got called for it.... first down.
Connell spikes it to kill the clock.
FG to win it.

Dutch win the conference title AGAIN!

What a day, it looks like both of my teams will be playing in the post-season. Wartburg fans, what are your plans for next weekend? I hear you guys have a great music program, maybe they're playing a concert or something next Saturday

First off, congrats to Wartburg on a great season. Lets hope the selection committee feels the same way. Second, I've heard that both calls could have gone either way. Depends on which side of the bleachers you were sitting on. I wasn't there and neither was my pops but he said the KNIA announcers did a decent job of describing it. Now comes the time to speculate on who plays where next week. Central will obviously be at home, but against who? I really doubt that they get St.Johns at Pella again.

Final  Central 17 Wartburg 14

That sounded like a great game to see. Any archives in video for either school?

Pakk

Hooray for WARTBURG!!  They gey what they deserve.

Pakk

26 of the past 27 years Central has finished 1st or second in the Iowa conference!!!

And who ever said it was correct, Wartburg is a music school.  They have a very strong choir, much better than Centrals, so congratulations on that as well.

doolittledog

Well, at least Airborne Dutch was a gracious winner.

wartknight

No doubt about it the KNIGHTS got the shaft!!!!
No PI - great position by Weber - maybe offensive!!!!!!! Ball sails out of the back of the endzone!!!!
Fumble on spike - s/b OT!!! You can say we are complaining - but these are the facts - 1st hand!!!!!!!!!

Again - luck of the Dutch!!!!!!

It is too bad the officials determined the outcome!!!!

Wartknight,

I beg to differ.  Weber's grab of the jersey is what got him the call.  He did not push him but there was definately the jersey pulled on the pass interference call.

In regards to the pass interference call, I didn't see it but it sounds like it was 50/50. If there was no call, Central wouldn't be happy. Since there was a call, WB wasn't happy. As a former DB, I always liked to get physical while the receiver was running and while the ball was in the air. So, do I have a little sympathy for Weber? Yeah. You never like to think you have made a tough play and then get a flag on it. Devine, as a former DB, care to offer any insight? Was it a wishy washy call? Might have been, but the ref obviously saw something so it is up to us to beat this horse for the next week or so. I suppose Central got a double dose of karma on the PI and fumble since in 2002 it was blatantly obvious that Hodapp fumbled but the play was blown dead.

Doolittle, it wasn't being gracious but just realizing that props were due to a good football team. Talking smack is fun face to face, but in here, you never know exactly how people will react so I try to keep it low tones. I know the feeling of being overly confident and then having it thrown right back in your face when you lose.

Congratulations to Central.  You will represent the IIAC very well once again.  Also congrats to the Central SID.  Whoever writes your game summary on the web gave a great account of the game.  To someone at the Luther/Dubuque game your summary gave a good insight......... whether or not Connnell fumbled or spiked.   But my question is, "Why doesn't Wartburg's SID ever give an account of their game except in the fewest words possible?"

Luther and Dubuque:  The story was Jackson's quarterback draws.  Norse D did very well in the second half and had opportunities to win but couldn't quite pull it off.
Luther gave us an exciting season however with close games.  Congrats to  all Norse...coaches and players.

We'll be back !!!!!

Congratulations to Central on your win today. That game sounds like it was a heart-stopper.

I hope you guys can make some noise in the playoffs this year.
Two words:  THE STREAK

DutchHawk

Just got back from Waverly, thought Id make a few points!
-First off Congrats to the Dutch, you hung tight, stopped Warts on a short field multiple times in the first half after handing them 7 points by fumbling on the 5.
-Dave, no verbal beatings, Wartburg is a tough team and played well, in the end they just didnt make enough plays to win.
-I think the PI was a fair call, Weber had his arm over our receiver as he was trying to come back for the ball and prevented our receiver from getting back to it. At this point in a game no ref is going to make a slight call that would make the game, plus our kicker would have made it from further out anyway;)
-Wartburg could not run at all, Suckow was completely ineffective running the ball, rocket screen didnt really work great, one TD looked like blown coverage.
-You cant blame the refs, I thought they called a fairly even game. The Connell spike was the most questionable but I had a view from behind the offense and up off the field, his arm was moving down toward the ground as he was bent over, therefore incomplete pass. Close but still probably the right call. He did seem to bobble it a tad but either way Wartburg couldnt make the plays to win.
-Central scored 10 more than the amazing Wartburg D usually gives up, Weber got burnt bad a couple times by Smith.
-Central probably had more fans there...whole visitors side filled, all around the end zone was red, plus a section + of Wartburgs bleachers. Wartburg didnt fill their bleachers at all.

In conclusion congrats to Wartburg on a great game, hard nosed, fight till the end. Maybe next time you wont overlook a patsy in the middle of the season so that you could be thinking playoffs this week, especially with SJU losing!

Either way, lets hope the Dutch get some victories and respect back for the IIAC! Hopefully we can all come and support our representative in the playoffs! I for one would have wanted Wartburg to do well had they won!

I too was at the Centra/Wartburg game.  I read one posters comment about getting a crowd back from the 90s not sure if those were good ones or bad ones but I thought Central came with a good crowd.  Would have loved to sit with the crowd on Wartburgs side....They didn't sit the whole game and were pretty loud(backstory was sitting by an older dutch fan who was complaining to sit down...not the best of times there.  hard to see over the players)  Wartburg's best noise was at the begining touchdown.  It was loud but I think Central has faced louder home crowds than that one.

Great play by MVP Weber in the endzone...Would have been the 3rd time he was burnt that game but took care of things.  I thought it was a spike ball but hey when you're as good as Wartburg you can't loose right?  Gotta be the refs....Excelent job by the d line to after the whistle dive at Connell's legs to get that one last shot I suppose.  Hopefully he can walk next week(was carried of the field crutches after the game) Thanks Orange...He's tougher than snot (Luther Coach) but I'm sure he would rather win than be sexy(wartburg coach)  Which by the way what football coach describes the opposing quarterback by how sexy he is???

You guys can have your MVP (Weber) and his 66 rec yards no td's 5 tackles.  I'll take our non sexy, just wins, leading rusher of the game, 228 total yards 2 tds, 29-1 IIAC starter record.  Good news orange he and the other 21 sr. class members graduate now.

Bring on the Jonnies!  I'd like another shot at those guys....
