#4 Sorry to not sound like an IIAC backer, but if Central had performed better in their playoff trips we would be in this year.I hope they go all the way so they can get in next year after they finish #2 in the conference.

This really isn't the case. If Wartburg had performed better at home against the MIAC's fifth-place team, it would be in this year.

How are you supposed to act???  Are you kidding me?!?

Here's some HOW TO ACT AFTER LOSING 101:
Wartburg is a very, very tough team. But if you don't know how to act after a loss, then you don't deserve to win a single game until you learn how to handle a loss. You don't come on the boards and bash the teams you lost to and say that they are just lucky and the refs blew the game for you. YOU ACT LIKE MEN. MEN PLAY FOOTBALL. Instead of spending your time downtrodding the teams that you lost to, maybe encourage your kid and his football buddies to hit the weights. Focus on their technique. Do some running. GET READY FOR NEXT SEASON. That's how you act.

P.S. I think I have a little experience in this area after being on a team in high school that went from 0-9 freshman year to 8-3 senior year including a 1 point loss in state quarterfinals to the eventual state champions.

ANyone else have any new thoughts on a Friday?

AMBER ALERT!

A male who is known to spend time in Waverly has not been heard from since Friday, he answers to the name Walston.  He has an offensive lineman type of body, and may be suffering from depression.  Do not approach, and contact the authorities if seen.  He should have in his possession a Dutch Masters Cigar that he cannot bring himself to smoke.

So, why didn't you beat Augsburg and get two IIAC teams in the playoffs?

Foot ball daddy, this is the only question you need to answer.

Last post about the Wartburg game.  I gave karma for Warthog's post he is excatly correct Central didn't keep Wartburg out of the playoffs Augsburg did.  Pat is also correct.  I think Wartburg was a good team well qualified to win a playoff game.  They were one of the best in the IIAC and their record speaks to that only losing one game congrats to them for a great IIAC season.  To keep bickering about this is pointless as the Dutch are playing and I for one am disappointed about not having two teams in the playoffs but you have to take care of business so that you can get there.  I am sure that those are two games that the Knights thought they could have won but didn't and that may be hard to accept but the score is the final judge and that verdict is in.  Good luck in the off season Knights.

NOW ON TO OLIVET

Go Dutch as it was said in Remember the Titans.  Dutch leave no doubt on Saturday.  Let the Comets remember the day they met the DUTCH!

Is there also a class offered called HOW TO ACT AFTER WINNING 101???

If you are going to bash on Wartburg for being sore losers you might want to look in the mirror regarding poor winning.

Take a page out of DutchFan1, DutchFan2004 and the AirborneDutch playbook and try to show some class.  Any team that has won as often as the Dutch should have some fans with some thick skin and shouldn't get upset at a team hurting after a last second loss.  I doubt Wartburg fans would still be talking about the game and would have moved on to wishing Central success in the playoffs if there wasn't this deluge of posts from SOME, not all Central fans continuing to rub the wartburg fans noses in the loss.

With that said.  Congrats to the Dutch on their #1 seed.  I'm pulling for you to make a long run in the playoffs as I guess most IIAC fans feel the same.  Make us all proud.

Well said doolittle...+k for you.

And I am on board for the Dutch...regular season's over and its time to back the IIAC.  Unfortunately, we only have one representative so all effort goes into supporting the Dutch and their post-season run, hopefully all the way to Stagg Bowl  :)
Go Norse!!!

Busch Light

Just wanted to throw one more random post about Saturday's game...hopefully everyone can get pissed off!  8)

A few things that are pretty clear after the game...
1.  Wartburg's was large but quiet for most of the game
2.  Connell should be the MVP
3.  The officials made some calls that were questionable...pass interference (maybe/maybe not) but the fumble/downed pass is one that all officials struggle with.  Just look at the NFL and the amount of challenges that go into a similar type play.
4.  Wartburg would have loved to have the first half back, they definately could have scored more than 7 points.

One area that the Knights need to work on is their O-Line play.   They had a real hard time getting to the second level against the Dutch and when they did get there....they could not stay on any blocks.  Give the Dutch credit, the have plenty of big/fast LB and DL players.

Central did not "blow a coverage" late in the game.  They sent 6 vs Wartburg's 5 wide set....Suchow just ran a slant and beat this guy...no saftey--TD

Congrats and good luck to the Dutch

Seriously, does anyone know anything else about Olivet? I, for one, have had about zero interaction with the team, as they are a team out of the north. From the looks of their board, a playoff berth isn't arousing much excitment in their fan following....

Wow...the #1 seed.   :o  That was unexpected, for sure.  Hopefully the Dutch can run with that, and win a playoff game this season.  Hopefully the weather remains agreeable.  I remember spending a Saturday after Thanksgiving in Ames due to a snowstorm...and then getting torn apart by UW-LaCrosse.

I'm saddened to read that the Beakes aren't as rowdy as they used to be at games anymore.  Hopefully, they can regain their voices in the future.  We had a lot of fun following the team in the early nineties...and started off cheering for our only representative (an O-lineman, Suchomel...who later switched to D).

As for sore winners/losers, I honestly think that respect is given/felt by everyone on all sides, here.  Any jabs given are all done in humor, IMO.  We all have felt the heartbreak of a loss, and know it well...and man...when you take pride in your alma mater as we all do...those losses sting...and the excitement of an extended season really makes you overly happy.  The main problem is the discussion forum medium.  It is a limited form of communication, and difficult to understand fully what is being said and interpretations can easily be misread.

The nerves have already kicked into high gear for me for Olivet.  Ugh...winning the conference hasn't even settled in, yet.

Go Dutch...do us proud!

I think you and Maurer should come back and run a clinic... is he allowed on campus yet??  ;D "Free Beer in the Endzone, Go Team Go!"

(Can you tell that it's been a slow work-day for me....I haven't posted this much all season....)

Doolittle,

thanks for the kind words.  So do you follow other IIAC sports. I can honestly say I don't.  I don't have the time.  Also not a slap at other sports but after football I really drop off the sports watching.  Hope those little ones have rebounded.

One thing that I've been thinking about with the "finding a way to win" label that accurately describes Central this season:

In the early nineties, except for maybe one or two games a season...the Central starters rarely played a full game.  They would get a two or three TD lead in the first half, and sit for the second (Simpson and Wartburg games were generally a little closer).

I always felt that this was good for the younger players to get reps, and better prepare them when they became upper-classmen...and perhaps why success was consistent for so many years.

We all know that the IIAC hasn't really gone too far in the playoffs for a long time, and I was always curious if that was due to Central's starters not playing too many "complete games."  Maybe they were gassed late in the game, or something.

Props really have to be given to the entire league for every team bringing their best against the Dutch...and making every game a nail-biter.

I don't know, but Central starters...having to play every game...all game thus far...are they better prepared?
