Oooh, I like that. Leave No Doubt. Gotta respect Linfield for coming up with that. Strictly hypothetically speaking here. Other than the obvious conclusion of reaching and winning the NC, what is the best outcome for the IIAC. Trying not to look ahead, but assuming Central beats Olivet, it will be the first time in a few seasons the IIAC has reached the second round. Now if they have a close game with Redlands or St.Johns and come up on the short end, do you still view it as a successful playoff season or do they need to go further than that to have the IIAC gain some respect back? I'll be the first to admit that I am being hypocritical because a few pages back I preached looking one game into the future.

Sorry but I didnt read all the way back yet. I dont like to be too cocky, especially on here but devine deserves it. Oh look whos back..mr rocket screen? You have got to be kidding me, it went nowhere. Oh and I will continue to use dynasty because thats what Central is and you hate to admit it! 26 1st or 2nd place finishes in the last 27 years...10 OUTRIGHT titles in the last 20 years,

The Rocket screen was good for a couple first downs on third and 7+ situations. Also good for a TD. It was stopped for no gain once or twice. Just because it doesn't go for a score doesn't mean it wasn't a successful play.
Central was 6th in the conference in '03 and 3rd in '04. That's 25 of 27. Had to get you on that.

Are you sure Central was a 1 seen in '01? We beat you that year.
I forgot about the 2000 "Miracle in the Mud." Linfield got the IIAC back for that in '02 and '03.

You come to Wartburg to play for championships

DBQ1965

Four observations ...

One ... I checked here at 6 a.m. today before heading up into northern Michigan for a memorial service.  Its amazing how many posts there have been in the past 12-1/2 hours.

Two ... living in west Michigan, I've seen Olivet a couple of times.  Their defense is good and pretty consistent ... their offense seems spotty ... but it was good against Hope.  Not having seen Central in the flesh, I don't know how they will match up, but my guess is that with all the "close" games Central has had, Olivet probably will lose.

Three ... I am struck by at least a few WB fans who are PO'd that for two years in a row, the Warts got left out of the playoffs.  That seems to me to be ... in part ... because last season and this season the Warts lost to two teams they should have handled ... UD in 2006 (GO SPARTANS!) and Augsburg in 2007.

Four ... Getting left out of the play-offs will be a problem for any future IIAC team which finishes at 8-2 ... given the more recent play-off record of the IIAC.  Central needs to get deeper into the brackets this season for the IIAC to have any chance at all at having two teams in for next season.

Go Spartans!
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Congrats to the Dutch on a good season. Hopefully you guys make a deep run and bring home a title to the IIAC.

I saw that someone else already addressed this but no one really answered it... any coaches on the hot seat?

As bitter a pill as it is for Wartburg and Whitworth and others, it will soon pass. It could be a lot worse. How would you like to be a coach or player or fan of Milsaps? They will have to see that play (18 latterels) that kept them out for the rest of their life.

Alfredeneumann

I'm here to echo Wartburg fan on the the hard work the Wartburg football team does in the off season and to shed some light on the  workouts for the Knights football team. Since March 1 of 2006 they have been without any INDOOR facility to run in, do stretching or drills in. As someone who arrives at work on campus @ 6AM I personally saw those guys working running, doing drills in the PARKING LOT near the  small building (across the steet to the east of Joe's) that was used as a weight room and will be gone soon. They worked hard and doing it outside in the dark when it's 0 degree's... that's dedication.

With the facilities soon to be in place and the past 2 years as motivation I expect greater things for Wartburg  football.

Good Luck to all IIAC teams in the fall post seasons.

Floyd....

I was referring to football and define "being back" as returning to the Norse records from '54-'57 and '69-71 when the Norse beat Western Illinois in one of the only small college bowl games in the country and in the '70's when we played in the Stagg Bowl.  I either played or coached (part-time) at that time.
We have the coaching staff for it.  What we need is more alumni support.  By the way, pay attention to MBB.  We have something coming there.

Gets better for Millsaps -- they emptied their bench up 21 on archrival Mississippi College in the second half and never put the starters back in, ended up losing. Winning that game and going 9-1 would've gotten them in, I think.

I don't think the seat was hot, but I did here of a resignation in Decorah. This saddens me a bit, as I think coach Hefty is a good coach and a better person. I have always been impressed, and sometimes amazed, at how positive and enthusiastic he is all the time.

I don't think at this level any coaches will be fired, maybe "encouraged to resign" but to be fired.

Not to dwell on the game Saturday, just to respond. I was talking about Dave Devine's comments during the game about Mr. Rocketscreen and how he made it sound so unstoppable. Not that it wasnt effective, it did work for some yards. The TD to Suckow on it, did you see our defender jump up as if he thought he was going to pick it, Im not too sure he saw Suckow coming underneath otherwise he may have been able to make the stop as he was right there. Interesting.

Well if we want to split hairs in 04 WB and Coe were 6-2, Central BV and Luther were 5-3 so thats technically 2nd. ;) Either way 25 of 27 is something no one else can touch either so Im not concerned.

Central was a 1 seed in the West, back when the 1 had a bye in the first round. So yes, Im sure.

wow say that isnt true.  I thought that Luther was a very tough team the last 4 years.  Gave the Dutch fits each and every game.  I hope if that is true he did it because he wanted to or to do other things he wanted to not because of the school wanting him to.

He announced it to the team today, is what I heard. I did hear some of the players speculating on it a couple weeks ago because he had sold his house. I have no other knowledge on it. Again, I think he is a classy coach and can only assume this is on his own terms.

That is truly too bad.
Is he going elsewhere to coach?
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!
