Coach Hefty will definitely be missed -- he was a fantastic guy, both on and off the field. He's a class act all the way around.

Any thoughts on his replacement?

I don't know if they are looking at promoting someone from within the program, but if that was the case, I would bet they would be leaning towards Marlow as a replacement.  He has experience, he is an alum and he has been there for awhile and knows the program and the kids.  Coach Boyd could be a possibility as well.  He has been with Hefty since he came in and is another guy that is in touch with the kids and the program.  Those are the first two names that came up in my mind when I read the article this morning.

Coach Boyd was elevated to Associate Head Coach before this season. Not sure if that means anything. I think he would be a very good candidate.

Man, I wanted to post a couple of days ago, but I have a strict "read all of the posts i miss before posting" policy.  I just hate being redundant.  I know it have been beated like a drum, but I have some comments about the big game last weekend.

1. Congrats to Central.  I thought that this weekends game was a clear indication of who the best coach in the conference is.  Once again, Central made the proper adjustments at the half and dominated out of the break.

2. Eventually the rest of the conference needs to realize that special teams are important.  Central has obviously done the work in that area and it shows EVERY SINGLE WEEK.  I have no doubt that special teams was the difference in their season.

3. Connell is the UNANIMOUS MVP.  Anyone who thinks there is a more valuable player in the conference needs to have his fandom questioned.

4.  Finally, I need to say something that hasn't been mentioned yet.  I listened to the Wartburg broadcast of the game since I was at Coe/Cornell.  The older guy in the both is the biggest disgrace to radio broadcasting and journalism that I have ever heard.  Now, I know that all of the radio teams are homers and that is fine.  But the verbal actions taken by this gentleman are unacceptable and the school needs to look into them.  To call the officiating a "digrace" and to say that calling the PI was a "gutless call" and finally say that the crew "needs to hustle off of the field because they are a disgrace to the game" is deplorable.  Most of the game was typical homer calls, but the blatant disregard to professionalism and was what threw me over the edge as a fan.  Maybe I am overreacting a little too, but I just felt that it needed to be addressed.  Did anyone else hear the same things, and if so, am I out of line with this thinking?

Who is Cornell going to beat now that two of the worst teams in the country won't play them?

LAST CHANCE TO SEND IN ALL-CONFERENCE VOTES!!!
Hope to get counted this afternoon or right away in the morning.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Fannosaurus Rex

I have to worry about something.  So I will worry about Kurtis Brondyke losing his touch.  Saturday, he had three punts that let Wartburg start outside their own 20 including a 16 yarder that was downed at the Central 38!  Hopefully it was just freshman big game jitters and he is over it and will be booming them into the coffin corner Saturday against Olivet.  If I was McMartin I would have the kicking coach get Brondyke out of bed at 5:00 A.M. this week and make sure he gets some extra practice.

fannosaurus rex,

Did you attend the game.  At half time the scoreboard had him with a 52 yd avg now I didnt look into it but took Wartburg at their word but that was not to shabby for the wind that he played with for half the game.  The punt you were talking about was into the wind.  That is also what game the Dutch the ball at the 50 to start the last drive.  I for one think he did a great job and I wouldn't want to change a thing.  He will be 1st team all conference before his carreer is over.

Walston,

Will you have the IIAC posters selections out before the IIAC coaches? Or will you wait till after the IIAC coaches come out?

I too will miss Coach Hefty. I found him extremely likeable and offered recruits unprecedented access to his program on game day. I hope he finds whatever he's looking for.

In respect to "homie" radio announcers. Has anyone listend to a Hawkeye game on the radio? Gary Dophin's blather makes Jim Zabel look restrained. I miss Pete Taylor on the ISU broadcasts. You could tell by the tone of his voice how the Cyclones were doing, and he wasn't afriad to point out what they were doing wrong.

Ron Santo is the worst ever!

I actually really enjoy John Walters for the Cyclone games now.  He is pretty straight up with a definate cyclone slant, but clearly objective.

Walston,

I'll try to have them done before tomorrow afternoon. There's been a lot of people that sent in nominations, but then never voted after I sent back the ballot.
