I think MVP comes down to Connell and Sherden.  I think Sherden made a very goood case for himself this season, Does MVP come down to who was most important to his team ? If so I believe Sherden get MVP. Not that Connell didn't have a great season. But I don't believe Luther wins 5 game without Sherden and Central still wins alot of games without Connell. I really don't kown what they(who ever picks) look for. I'm not trying to make anyone mad, this is how I would chose MVP.

Not starting a big fight but with your logic Wartburg Fan don't you say that about UD not winning 7 games without Jermar?  I would be the first to say that Central would not be 10-0 without Connell especially after the two time reigning MVP goes down for about 3.5 games over a 5 game span (if memory serves) I know vance missed and didn't dress for two games.   I know it is your opinion I respect that but I am stealing the logic you used to formulate that opinion so I don't know who or how it will come out.

Uh oh, here we go with everybody chiming in for their favorite player.

I think Luther would be close to 5-5 with or without Sherden.  If you listen to all the dynasty talk from Central then that must mean it doesn't matter who is playing QB for them...they go 10-0 no matter who you throw in there ;D  Without Jackson I don't think you see UD go from an 0-10 team to a 7-3 team over the last 5 years.  But that is just me drinking the spartan cool-aid!!!

I didn't just include my favorite player but used the logic put forth for each player that has been mentioned with the exception of Weber from Wartburg.  While a good player I think Wartburg somehow with the other players on the team would have found suitable replacements for him.  IMO Wartburg could still have won 8 games without Weber.

Just want to stop the football talk for a minute and say congrats to Kyle Duchman for making Academic First-Team all District for Football. Isn't this whats it really all about.

Congrats as well for Norse RB Tyler Sherden making that team as well.

The MVP talk is great discussion material, I think people just want to hear everyone's logic behind their choice....everyone is allowed an opinion (even if some think Weber deserves it) but have a rationale behind the opinion.

Dsquared

I haven't ever seen the Dutch's backup QB, but I'd have to venture that CUI might've had a couple of blemishes on the record this year with all things equal (Schuring's injury).  Connell's energy affected the whole team.  I don't think it is a question... Connell was the heart and soul of the conference champs AND was a PTP-er.

Now... go ahead and jump down my throat for that, because there are several guys whose teams wouldn't be what they are without the MVP candidates.  Wartburg without Suckow would've been dicey this year (but I feel they would've had the best chance of winning without him).  Sherden was a workhorse, but their wins likely would've been wins with or without him there (save maybe 1 performance).  If Jackson would've pulled off the W versus Central, he would've been hands down.  I think he would've given Connell a run for his money had the only 2 losses been to Central and WB.

It comes down to giving Connell the MVP because IMO he made the biggest impact on his team as a whole, while Jackson should get 1st team QB because he made the biggest impact at the position throughout the year.  It's the same as Brad Banks getting the Davey O'Brien award and Carson Palmer winning the Heisman.  I know it is tough when it comes to in-conference picks, but it is logical that it could happen that one of the guys would get the MVP and the other would get 1st string QB.
The only thing capable of cutting Chuck Norris is Chuck Norris...

Jackson played in '03.  Redshirted in '04 with an injury. :D

I actually would find it hard to not vote for Connell with how he has led Central this year.  The only way I could see him not winning it is if people just don't want to vote for a Central player yet again, and then they think of Jacksons work over his whole career!!!

Congrats to all those young men.

I have to agree somewhat with Dutchfan2004. on Weber. I know Nick very well as he was in my son wedding. Yes I believe Wartburg wins 8 game aleast without Nick, but who ever replaced him probably won't have been as good as Nick. Everyone makes a good case for each player they have named. Trying not to sound to dumb, but what do the powers to be look for in chosing the MVP?

youcantseeme

As I have posted many a time on here over the past month, there is no single player in the conference that means more to his team than Connell.  And my rationale for the pick has to do with what Dsquared said at the end of his first paragraph.  He is the best clutch player in the conference this season.  Meaning he made a very good portion of his plays with his team counting on him and with the game in the balance.  The big throws that he made against Wartburg, Coe, and UD are what got Central to where they are now.

Personally, I do not think that Jackson is that good of a quarterback as far as making plays with his arm. However, he is a fantastic playmaker who makes up for the mistakes with his arm by making big plays with his legs.  He has had a fantastic season and deserves recognition for that.

Now, I do have a way to settle the discussion amicably.  With only one 1st team all-conference spot for QB, it has to be Connell.  Since the conference has two spot for running backs, but really only one truely deserving of 1st team recognition (Sherdan) IMO, give Jackson the other 1st team running back honor.  I don't think that would be a slap in the face while still rewarding one of the standout players in our conference.

Here is a question, and maybe I am reading way to much into this.  I went to the Central website to check out their football facilities, to see some pictures of the new field/track/stadium.  All of the links say that this page is currently unavailable.  Here is my question, is this coincidence, or is Central keeping Olivet in the dark of what the facilities look like?  Also, would Central gain any kind of advantage by keeping Olivet in the dark???

Oliver Stone is looking into this as we speak.   ;D

It's refreshing to be on a message board that is positive and where the posters have common sense and rationale. I spend some time looking at the Hawks boards and the people on there are so critical of the coaches and players it's kind of sickening.

I love the big game atmosphere at Kinnick, Hawkeye football and everything that goes with it, particularly the tailgating. :) ....but DIII really is pure college football.

Of course we like to do some talkin' back and forth but when it all comes down to it, there are a ton of quality individuals that make up the IIAC and DIII in general.

Congrats to all the guys on their accomplishments on and off the field.

Now let's go take care of Olivet!

I don't know what they look at and since there are no coaches posting on here that we know of and I don't think they would reveal themselves anyway ;D Maybe Walston has a better insight into that as he has closer ties to people in the know.
