Voice of the Dutch

A few pages back, there was some discussion about a seemingly immediate improvement of the Dutch D.  I just thought I'd chime in on why I think they were so much better against Wartburg than they were in many games this season.

Dustin Baethke = HEALTHY

In Central's defense, the stinger position is the most important on the field, and Baethke is by far their best stinger.  He was ALL over the field against the Knights, and was finally at his 2006 level of play.

I think it's really a lot like Bob Sanders with the Colts.  They made immediate BIG strides defensively when he came back for the playoffs last year.  I think you'll notice the Dutch will continue their elevated level of defensive play throughout the playoffs if he stays healthy.

Suppose I should have submitted a ballot, but not having seen any games and not knowing too many guys outside of Central, I remained silent. But wow, no love for Josh Smith, Andrew Lehn, or Greg Altmaier. Smith was the difference maker in several conference games and Lehn and Altmaier had somewhere close to 200 tackles combined. Not even an Honorable mention nod. Interesting.

Altmeier got a vote and Lehn got 2. The next 3 guys tied with 5. That's why no HM. I gave HM if a guy just barely missed getting on the team. Smith got a vote, but the winners had 5 and 6 votes a piece.

Just so everyone knows the rules, voters were not allowed to vote for their own team's players. Did that to avoid a situation where everyone was just voting for their own team. I think it worked out pretty well. Every school but Loras I believe had someone voting in the final tally.

DF1 I knew Oliver would get to the bottom of it and get it fixed.  By the way are you coming to Pella this Saturday?

I think so -- I'm rounding up some of the alum from my era. (It seems we've lost a few to marriage and kids...)  ;D

Well that happens as we get older and "grow" up.  Someone has to have kids so we can go to these football games and have cheerleaders to cheer for them don't they?

I thought having the d3fb.com IIAC All-conference teams up would liven the discussion.

I was going to comment on the weather, but since it would probably be taken as an anti-Central comment, I'm staying quiet.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Yeah...Mother Nature be damned!  She always thinks she's better than me with all of her cold winds and stuff. ;D

It's quiet in here you say???

How about this.  The Central Dutch are a bunch of no talent lucky S.O.B's!!! ;D ;D ;D

Just kidding.

Maybe we could organize a charity football game between Central and Wartburg alumni from this board.  Of course it would need to be held near a hospital so they could take care of all the bad backs that were thrown out of place during the game...it's hell to get old!!!

Once again, good luck to the Dutch this weekend.  Show off the talent we have in the IIAC!!!

No time for love, Dr. Jones....been busy at work today.  Besides, the chatter will pick up as we get closer to gameday.  Remember, it is only humpday  ;)

Um.....all of my favorites border on inappropriate.....

How about, "we can beat you on the field and you can beat us off"

oldbeake -- talked to Maurer last night. Shenanigans!

Walston,

I thought the all conference selections were pretty much on target.  I didn't have any things to pick on because the electorate had spoken  ;D
