I had heard the same thing about Niemann before the season. It seemed strange they hired a coach to be on your staff who may replace you.
Walston. I also remember hearing that Swenson was interested in the Simpson job after Williams left. Things were a lot different then as far as what he has accomplished at Valley. I have always thought Tom Wilson would make an excellent coach in the Iowa Conference.

Maybe they will hire Swenson away from Valley ???
<crosses fingers>

Are you crossing your fingers because you are at Dowling?  How would you feel if he did a great job at Simpson and they were back to where they often were under Williams?

Simpson should always be an interesting job for a lot of coaches because of the location.

Much more so to get him away from Valley. Didn't think about a winner being at Simpson. That part would not be so good.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

To show you how coaching has it's ups and downs, many Valley fans were unhappy with Swenson before the playoffs in 2002. They had some outstanding talent in the years before that and hadn't one a state title while Dowling was winning two. In the 2002 regular season Valley was 6-3 and had to go to Heelan to play a really good Heelan team in the first round. Valley won by a point, in a game a lot of Heelan fans felt they gave away. Think how different things could have been if Valley had lost that game.

That's what I was wondering.  The Simpson job hasn't been posted on the NCAA website yet, but the Norse job is:

Compare the Luther job to the Grinnell job.  The Norse job might have similar responsibilities to the Pioneer job, but the descriptions seem much different to me.

More from the "For What It's Worth" Department ...

With an eye toward the Central - Olivet clash on Saturday ... the MIAA All Conference team has been announced with first team offense Olivet players at RB, Center ... and first team defense Olivet players at DE, 2 LBs and 2 Dbs.  Second team offense included the Olivet TE, WR, and LT with second team defense a DB.  Their punter was first team special teams and the first team DE was named Defense MVP of the conference.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

The Niemann thing is for sure..he is done.  I have heard that a bunch of players are not happy with the idea that Lounsberry could be the HC.

I just submitted my application to Grinnell for the opening they have. If selected,  I will be installing the Tecmo Bowl offense from 1991, all 4 plays offered.
The  power sweep, dive play, hail  mary play, and the play where all the receivers just run hook patterns.
With a few backs like Bo Jackson & Christian Okoye, we will no doubt be playing for the Stagg Bowl in  a few years.

As far as this week's game. It looks like Olivet has 3 all conference secondary players. But I'm sure they won't be able to get a rush on Connell and he will shred them.

Since no one from DBQ was represented  on here about the dual sport athletes being IIAC, I thought I would throw one out there.
Greg Ortberg(99')  was RB/Track. He Has to be one of the fastest IIAC players Ever.
We were @ UNI the same time,  he ran a Legit 4.42, 4.40 there.   The only guy who ran slightly faster was Mike Furrey(Detroit Lions)

I'm surprised things didn't work out better for Niemann @ Simpson. He was my DB coach freshman year and I thought he was a pretty good coach. Younger guy, (was)  energetic, intense, pretty  good feel for the game.
I thought with him coming from Drake/UNI and used to recruiting iowa kids that he would do pretty well there.

simpson people, any thoughts on why they haven't been successful since 97/98 minus the 03 season?

Good luck Jay

Walston,

do you or Todd  see Coach Thomas ever leaving A-P for an opportunity @ a college?

I know his name had been thrown around a few times in the past when WB was going thru a new coach every year prior to Willis taking over.   I'm going to assume No since he's not getting any younger.

Dang it Devine, you got your app in before mine!
I applied and was planning on running the Intellivision Offense.

BTW, I played against the Nigerian Nightmare in college...he wasn't yet a bad dream for Azusa Pacific then.  Just out of Africa and off the Track (he originally went to APU for Track)  He had trouble holding onto the football his first year.  He was a load though.  It was amazing to see him progress.

WartTrainer:

Get on the phone to those unhappy Storm Troopers at Simpson.  Tell them to get their transcripts and transfer papers sent off to Wartburg.  We'll take them.  Hells bells we have a reputation to live up to.

There is a pair of twins from M-town we would damn well take.  I still can't figure out why they didn't ended up at Wartburg in the first place, but hey we'll take 'em now.  I have some roofing I need done on my house next summer.  I'll get the local Knight linebacker up there with them and by the time camp opens we'll have them packing their bags for Waverly.

Has Lance  Harbor applied for the jobs at either Simpson or Luther?
