Walston,

do you or Todd  see Coach Thomas ever leaving A-P for an opportunity @ a college?

I know his name had been thrown around a few times in the past when WB was going thru a new coach every year prior to Willis taking over.   I'm going to assume No since he's not getting any younger.

If he does, it won't be as a head man, and its going to have to be an awefully good offer. I could see him get one somewhere as a DFO-type position when he wants to slow down a la Southmayd at Central. By college coaching standards, he is a pretty young guy yet so I wouldn't totally rule it out.
I know a Simpson starter as well, I'll get on the horn with him today. We could use another lineman for next year.

Interesting to hear of the resignation at Simpson.  I had a couple of friends that went to simpson out of high school.  They had some interesting things to say regarding attitudes and how situation got handled.  Might be good to have some new blood on the Storm sidelines.  They have one heck of a location for recruiting.

Maybe Simpson is thinking bigger!!!

Mike DuBose left Alabama and moved 1 state over to Div. III Milsaps.  Maybe Simpson is thinking of grabbing Bill Callahan!  He could then bring in Walston Hoover to coach o-line and be recruiting coordinator (just bring in a bunch of A-P kids)  With his installation of the west coast offense he could then bring in Purple Heys to recruit Cali kids into Indianola-of course that could conflict with his kid being at Cornell and all.  ;D

How disappointing.....with the lack of "conversation" (er, smack talk, gentle ribbing, etc....) it feels as though we aren't even still playing tomorrow. The Olivet board is a ghost town (check out the North division, MIAA).

Wartburg talked more smack AFTER they lost.... how sad. I feel bad for Olivet's program if this is all the support they are getting on their first ever trip to the playoffs..... even Cornell brings more of a fan base.

I'm hoping that this is a more lopsided victory for the Dutch tomorrow. I'd like to build some momentum for the next game.  Go Central!

I think Simpson is a great job. They have nice facilities and support and have shown a dedication to athletics. For some reason it didn't work with Niemann. He seemed like a good guy and I thought he had an excellent defensive mind.
I would think Simpson would try and get someone who could make inroads to the suburban Des Moines schools. It seems like an untapped area as far as the Iowa Conference goes.

I would think Simpson would be a pretty enticing job for a 4A high school coach. Swenson came to my mind immediately also.

Of course it's the playoffs and everyone is good at this point, but should Central have a problem with this Olivet team? I don't see any glaring stats or anything that immediately scares me. I'm hoping the Dutch come out and play a solid game and win convincingly for three reasons:

1. The IIAC needs some postseason wins, no doubt about that.
2. I would love to see a rematch with St. Johns in Pella.
3. I'm going to the Iowa game this weekend and feel bad missing the playoff game, so if Central could go ahead and advance to next week...that would be great.

Have a good Friday everyone...it's almost time for another football Saturday!

Please give your definition of smack. I haven't seen any from Wartburg supporters since the game so perhaps I don't know what smack is.

The Niemann thing is for sure..he is done.  I have heard that a bunch of players are not happy with the idea that Lounsberry could be the HC.

I have heard that some players want him as there is alot of palyers (starters returning) and they don't want a new offense and defense to learn as that will take time .

I think the Olivet supporters feel fortunate to be in the playoffs and don't have much to say...I agree with you in that Saturday needs to be a statement game for the Dutch and build momentum moving forward in the playoff bracket.  A strong performance tomorrow can really jump start a deep push into the playoffs for the Dutch  :)
Go Norse!!!

If you are "forcing" your coach to resign, does it really make sense to hire from within?
That would be like ISU hiring Barney Cotton after McCarney left.

Did Niemann hire his assistants at Simpson, or was the coaching staff already in place?

From what I have heard it isnt just some of the older guys that are upset about Niemann leaving.  There are a bunch of young guys who don't like the idea of Niemann leaving and Lounsberry taking over as the HC.  I still think that Simpson should bring in someone who is not on staff already and start fresh.  Plus, from the two Simpson games that I went to as well as the post game reports that I received from a couple of others, Lounsberry couldnt run an offense very well, so how would he really do running an entire team??  These are just my thoughts.....

WartTrainer:

Get on the phone to those unhappy Storm Troopers at Simpson.  Tell them to get their transcripts and transfer papers sent off to Wartburg.  We'll take them.  Hells bells we have a reputation to live up to.

There is a pair of twins from M-town we would damn well take.  I still can't figure out why they didn't ended up at Wartburg in the first place, but hey we'll take 'em now.  I have some roofing I need done on my house next summer.  I'll get the local Knight linebacker up there with them and by the time camp opens we'll have them packing their bags for Waverly.

Nothing like kicking them while they're down....   ;)

An emotional Niemann told the team at the meeting he had resigned and explained some of the circumstances.  From what I was told, the rest of the coaches said none of them knew yet about their jobs (either way).  Despite rumors I've been hearing for 2 years, nothing has been announced or was said in the meeting about Lounsberry being named Head Coach.  Good Luck to Coach Niemann, he was a very, very nice guy with alot of class.  We've had sons in the program as long as he was there - 6 years.

That is to bad about Simpson.

Now on to the statement about being in a good area to recruit and get players.  IMO I don't think that being in an area of 4 schools that it is a huge advantage.  How many of those kids have made an impact on the IIAC lately.  I believe if memory serves the last 4 MVP's have been from a 1A school, 3A, 3A, and a 1A.  Eldora New Providence, Pella, Pella, and Colo Nesco, Schools.  Not to say that there have not bee 4 A players on the team but I think Walston will agree with this that school size does not make the players quality players as he was from a 1A school and coaching at a 4A.  The one thing that 4A has is numbers but some of the 4A schools even struggle to get numbers out.  Searching for the right kids to recruit is the key.  Des Moines and Indianola could be a good base but I don't think that is a huge advantage.  The vast majority of kids playing in the IIAC I think are 3A or under in size.  I have heard if from sources that a lot of these kids come out of 4A and think that these A, 1A, 2A, and 3A kids are not very good players and when they see the time, work ethic, and talent that they have many of them just quit because there is to much hard work to do to win a spot.

Walston you can shed some more light if you can you'd be the perfect one coming out of AP and then coaching at Dowling.
