I will say this-In my opinion, there is enough talent that comes out of the CIML every year to field a very competitive IIAC team, but the kids don;t go on to play football. There is a somewhat "holier than thou" attitude (for lack of a better term) in these kids that if they don't get a scholarship, they don't want to play. The kids generally head on to a bigger school then to get an education.
VERY disappointing.

I would think that Lounsberry would be an ideal head coach for Simpson. He's a Simpson grad who played on a bowl team, has a D1 experience at a high level, and is from a small town in central Iowa. I would think he would be a good fit and could use his experience in D! to recruit both big and small schools. I know he doesn't give up easily when recruiting.

Walston,

So being near Des Moines is not an advantage is it?  Maybe my last post was to harsh on 4A kids,  my point was that most of the kids playing in the IIAC are kids that played at a lower level and look at the success of them.  I know that the two kids that I know of that are on the Central team out of Des Moines are good kids, and have been a real assest to the team but the majority of kids are from smaller programs was my point.  That is to bad I think the kids you talk about Walston would find that they would have a positive experience at an IIAC school.

Walston,
Do you think it's easier to recruit players to go to Valley or Dowling than it would be to recruit to Simpson? And after be recruited once to play HS football do they really want to be hassled again to play college football?   :-)

And with Mike Woodley starting Grandviews F-ball program he has said his ties in local kids and Texas are his priority another option for CIML players.
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Get on the phone to those unhappy Storm Troopers at Simpson.  Tell them to get their transcripts and transfer papers sent off to Wartburg.  We'll take them.  Hells bells we have a reputation to live up to.

There is a pair of twins from M-town we would damn well take.  I still can't figure out why they didn't ended up at Wartburg in the first place, but hey we'll take 'em now.  I have some roofing I need done on my house next summer.  I'll get the local Knight linebacker up there with them and by the time camp opens we'll have them packing their bags for Waverly.

Nothing like kicking them while they're down....   ;)

An emotional Niemann told the team at the meeting he had resigned and explained some of the circumstances.  From what I was told, the rest of the coaches said none of them knew yet about their jobs (either way).  Despite rumors I've been hearing for 2 years, nothing has been announced or was said in the meeting about Lounsberry being named Head Coach.  Good Luck to Coach Niemann, he was a very, very nice guy with alot of class.  We've had sons in the program as long as he was there - 6 years.

Your sons were pretty good players!  In fact, one of them did about all you could on offense in a losing effort in 2005 against Luther in Decorah.  Good luck to them in the future!  Is one of them playing baseball this spring?  What is the Simpson Baseball team supposed to look like?

You use the term "lower level." I hate it when people refer to HS sports that way. Its just a smaller school. You're top tier talent (individual players) are just as good at Wapsie as they are at Valley. There's just way more of them at Valley.

I would agree with Walston that players at the 4A level are less likely to go to a D3 because the best players are recruited to D1 with scholorships and the players who are at the next level feel slighted if they don't get the same offers. They don't realize what they are missing playing D3 football.

Central has a few solid Valley kids playin...Haberman and Best is a freshman that shows some real ability on the varsity field. Coach Mac can keep that line of recruitment open...that team has some athletes on it!

Dutchhawk,

i forgot about Best from Valley the other player I thought of out of Des Moines was Zachery,  He did a great job filling in for Schuring when he was down.  Keep both of those lines open.  I know Walston won't mind. ;D

I have a friend that played for Valley last year and went to Luther this year. He repeatedly said that he thought playing at Luther (or any D3 school) would be a step down from his HS days. I think WH hit the nail on the head with the "holier than thou" comment earlier.

I'm wondering how his opinion will have changed after playing a season of college ball....

Thanks Floyd!  Even though we didn't have as many "W's" as we would have liked, we've enjoyed our 6 years very much and hate to see it over.  Yes, both of them played baseball, my youngest will be playing his final season this spring.   :(  He's a pitcher/outfielder.  The baseball team was pretty young last year, we only lost a handful of starters to graduation.   We should be pretty good, but we'll see.

Yea Zachary is going to be a force next year at RB, he showed real promise this year filling in for Schuring. I think that holier than thou attitude is true, I wouldnt be surprised if some of those kids thought Valley could hang with or beat some of the IIAC teams. That makes me laugh but that seems to be the attitude.
