The Dutch are 30-3 the last 3 seasons,

I believe the 2 of those loses that weren't to St. John's were to Coe on Central's field when it was still grass and Whitewater.   Did St John's ever get to play those guys on their field?  Oh yeah.

Im sure when you guys lose youll be all over how Kofoed played so terrible and wont give any credit for being beaten by a better team. I guess thats how Gag's teaches sportsmanship and "winning with no" No taking responsibility for being outplayed?

Douchehawk,

I think I am the only SJU poster who played for Gagliardi, and your opinion of how he "teaches sportsmanship" is unfounded and way off base.

Fact of the matter is that most of us have no problem giving credit to a team that flat-out outplays us.  We've got a bunch of respect for UWW because they have been the better team than us the past two years, and Bethel played a very good game and beat us.  Sure, our boys didn't play up to their potential, but Bethel was the better team that day.

I think you'll find that if Central should win, we'll be very congratulatory and might even hop on your bandwagon.

I know from that Sweet Season book that Coach Gagliardi's name isn't pronounced like it is spelled but I have never heard what it sounds like.  Maybe I will just refer to him as "He Who's Name Is Not Spoken."  And some how I feel the need to use my first emoticon.  ;D

Theres only one poster who played there? I was a bit frusterated so I apologize about some aspects of my post, just got you guys a bit riled up, if it could be anymore. Seems like with as many of you guys who talk so much I would have figured more of you would have been actual players.

Nice article on johnniefootball.com DuffMan.  Well written. That was the reason I signed back on here.

Didnt seem by your pregame quotations that that would be the case. I havent had time to read every post as you guys seem to post at an incredible rate. It should be a good game to watch Saturday as the Dutch roll over the Johnnies who are looking forward to a potential rematch with the Royals just a bit too much.

I was even in the MIAC board wishing SJU good luck before the Bethel game and I got ripped on for that.

Im sure theres a reason that the NCAA sends up extra supervisors (whatever you would like to call them) to Collegeville when SJU hosts a playoff game.

Well, I scrolled back several pages, and I am the only former player to have posted on the IIAC board recently.

And speaking of Sweet Season, once you get past all of the St. John's stuff and get to the descriptions of the two play-off games against Central, it is a pretty good book.

And, conveniently, the 6 pages that are left are about all you IIAC posters can comprehend in one sitting!

I read it all.  Yada yada unorthodox coach, yada yada burnt out author tries to recapture youth, yada yada Central gives a heroic effort and narrowly misses knocking off  St. John's when they got lucky at home in Minnesota and the next year Central played them tougher than anyone on their way to the national championship.  What did I miss?

Nice article Duffman, good info there. I'd never read/heard anything about NFL interest in Vance so that was cool to see even if it is a longshot. Speaking of which, the Dutch have a famous almumus who played in 3 Super Bowls with the Miami Dolphins, including the 1972 undefeated season and was selected to the Pro Bowl, Vern Den Herder. He was born in Iowa and inducted into the college football hall of fame along with Coach Schipper. Does St. John's have anyone who ever went on to a pro career?

To build on what repete started in answering questions about the SJU coaching/practice styles..

You need people who can play, who are self motivated leaders, or are willing to follow those who are. They must take responsibility for preparing themselves outside of scheduled team practices. Then they must commit to the coaches and that system that will teach you how to do your job on the field.

Regarding who gets to play. The Alex Kofoed story may be enlightening. After the NCAA Championship year of 2003, the Johnnies had many spots to fill, since they lost a number of All Americas including the Stagg Bowl MVP/Gagliardi Trophy winner. Their first game of the season at UWEC, they were down, I believe, 27 - 0. Kofoed was the fourth QB grought in to lead that team. One who played prior to him in that game ended up as a starting WR in later years. They came back furiously before falling 30 - 28. He has been the starting QB ever since with a 38 - 6 record (If my numbers are correct.) If someone doesn't do the job, there are others willing to take their place and the staff is not averse to trying others.

It seems to work. That above all else should be acknowledged by all. You may be able to opine that it doesn't seem to be the "right" way to do things, but IT DOES WORK!!

It is one of the most interesting things about which I've read.  I've always wanted to watch practice up there...just to see it in person.  I've always admired St. John's from afar, and feel lucky to have been around Central's legend, Coach Schipper.

Two truly great programs.  It's only fitting that we have to meet yet again this season.

The Dutch are 30-3 the last 3 seasons and you guys dont have time to pry your lips off Gag's and Kofoed's ass for more than 30 seconds to see the rest of the picture.

Im sure when you guys lose youll be all over how Kofoed played so terrible and wont give any credit for being beaten by a better team.

Your post is beyond ridiculous, but those two lines there stand out.

For a guy who holds every major passing record in school history, has been all-MIAC for four years (a 2nd team and 3 1st's), and is a Gagliardi Trophy finalist, he gets absolutely no respect from Johnnie fans, especially on this forum.

For what it's worth, I get labeled the biggest Kofoed kiss-ass on this board and I'm not even sure he should have been first-team All-MIAC this year.  He's a good quarterback but he's inconsistent.  I don't think anyone around here will argue he's anything more than that.

Love the rest of your "hot air" though.

Klopen, I think everyone nationwide views UW-W as #2 in the country and the clear #1 among traditional West teams, and I think it will stay that until a West team beats them (so at least until next year).

Regard who the best team is in this year's actual "West" bracket, your boys have their name on it until someone knocks them off.  Luckily, it will be decided on the field.

TC,

I was not going to go to the subject of All MIAC but since you brought it up I will go there.  How do you have 6 first and second team QB's 14 Olineman, etc etc.  All you have to do is finish the season and you get to be all MIAC?  IMO not much of an honor if everyone else is getting the honor is it?

To an extend that may be partially true.   The Johnnies live or die with Kofed.  He can be  very inconsistent and his decision making really affects the team.  When he is on, he's great, but he tends to lapse at times.  Watch his mechanics early on.  Is he  setting up and following through, taking the sack when he should........sometimes he just gets sloppy and will make a foolish throw into coverage or throw short to an open  receiver.  He seems to play much better at home, looks more comfortable in the pocket.  I don't think he should have been a Gagliardi trophy finalist, I voted for Beaver.  Having said all that, I hope he does great on Saturday.     :D
