well depending on who you dress 3rd string players are not out of the question.  It definately was the second string that was in when they scored.

Didn't figure I needed to after the Dutch being up 17-0 at half.  That and that Connell kid you might be familiar with was throwing the ball pretty well.  I thought about getting out the mower just in case but my wife had me pretty busy getting christmas decorations out.   ;D

Good luck to the Dutch next weekend and if there is no snow on the ground and the temp is above 30 I will put the lucky mower on stand-by for you!!!

Couldn't have been more proud of the Dutch today.  With all due respect to the Johnnies, the Dutch were bigger, faster, stronger, and smarter today.  My only regret is that the IIAC didn't get a second team in...have to think that Wartburg, DBQ, and Coe (heck, maybe even the Beaves) would have given the Johnnies a run for there money today.  Not doubting that they are a good team this year (as they are always), but they did not match up well against the Dutch today.

Insert "their" for "there" above.   It's gonna be a long night.

Dutchfan1,

Didn't see you there.  Did you get to come out and see the game.  What are your thoughts you have seen some good teams and playoff games?  Where do you rank this game?

Not DF1, but I have been watching Central football since the Den Herder days and this one was a ton of fun, made even more so by the posts of the past week.  It rated right up there with the best of them.

For this long time Dutch fan, it has been a thrill to see more passing from Central.  I don't say there aren't some old die hard, run it up the gut Central fans out there who prefer to pass only to open up the running game, but I think there are a lot more long time Central fans that are enjoying the fact that we don't give away our first down play to the opposing defense every time by running.  It may be more the case that we just aren't used to having a QB that can pass as consistently well as Connell has this year.  To be honest, when we had running backs with the skills of Don Taylor, Scott De Jong, Rich and Mark Kacmarynski and a healthy Vance Schuring I can understand why we were a run dominate team.  You could pretty much count on an average gain of a good 4 yards by any of those guys no matter how many times you ran them in a game.  As the saying goes, with passing their are three things that can happen and two of them are not good.  We didn't have the security of an experienced line and a healthy Vance Schuring most of this year.  Tim has been improving as a passer each year and this year he got the opportunity to really prove he could do it.  He made the most out of it and replacing him will not be easy.  Bandow is going to have some big shoes to fill next year.  The great thing is that Tim Connell set the kind of example for him that will have him working really hard to fill that void.

Guys, enjoy tonight and savor one of the best victories in Central history.  Then focus on next week.  Don't get caught thinking that because today was easy, we can let up and don't pull a Wartburg and get caught looking ahead!  (Sorry WB fans, not trying to pick a fight.)

Thanks DF2k4-
We had a great time with you and the family!!!!  What a great game, if you were a Dutch fan!  The Dutch were prepared and executed, no doubt who the better team was today!

DutchFan2004- Your  son played a fantastic game today! He picked apart the normally tough Johnnie Defense. There is no wonder why he was named IIAC MVP!
Congratulations on the victory & best of luck the rest of the way!
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

In other state of Iowa football news.  UNI gets a 24yd td pass with 7 seconds left to beat New Hampshire 38-35!!!

Central has to be the luckiest team in the history of football.  Isn't that what everyone was saying?  Imagine the season they would be having if they could actually play the game.

And to whoever asked, I thought it was a good crowd.  The stands on both sides looked nearly full except for the student section on the home side.

And to whoever made the comment about the pep band earlier in the week, I thought they were the only thing missing today to keep it from being perfect.

Hello all!!

What a fantastic day to be a Dutch fan! Congrats to Central on the fine win over SJU! The Johnnies have a very storied program that I have grown to respect quite a bit over the years. The team in Pella today was very atypical for the Johnnies. Having said that, it feels great to relish this victory -- it has been in the works for 20 years!

Congrats to the J's for a very fine season. Even bigger congrats to the DUTCH!! Enjoy it -- and bring on Bethel!

P.S. DF2004 -- I had  to miss the game today in person -- fantastic job by the announcers -- the Wartburg side of my family scheduled Thanksgiving in Manchester today....  ;D
