Great win by the Dutch yesterday. Great execution in all phases of the game leaving no doubt whatsoever. I kind of gloated yesterday after the game on here which I shouldn't have done but we were still "celebrating" pretty hard at that point in time. The Johnnies have a great tradition and following but Central was just the better team yesterday and it showed. On to Bethel.

do the 2 NAIA championships in '63 and '65 count?

uhmm . . .no.  What have we done lately and what we'll do Sat is what matters.  Central has not been overly successful in the playoffs in the recent decade or so.  Both teams are dynasties of their own conferences, but the MIAC dynasty has been better in playoffs lately.  So what??  You got Kofoed, I thiink I recall some extreme negativity from you fair werather fans on his performance after the Bethel game, this week he is the best thing since pull tops on your Hamms.  As has been noted, the Dutch are much better than last year's edition, and the Johnnies are the same old second place MIAC team.

I know I'm several pages behind here, but some of us Iowegians work occassionally.

you guys keep saying that the Dutch are better than last years team, but did you have to come from behind to win 6 games last year?  I would say luckier...maybe not better, in fact lets say every comeback win is worth 1.5 cats lives...in that case you better not fall behind the J's...

No problem...  ;D

(Sorry -- some of the posts from last week are too priceless not to revisit....)

Im still here, its damn near impossible to keep up with the SJU posters...is it really that boring in Minnesota this time of year? I guess there isnt any snow and ice yet so that dampens your outlook on things until later.

I think the game will be close and physical, I like Central for one obviously, and two they are an older more mature and FINALLY healthy team. I think the game against Wartburg set the tone for the playoffs. A dominant defensive effort will be required again and we have to keep Kofoed (sp) in check, something we didnt do last year. The weather sounds cold so thats always fun. I think the biggest key to the game is the Dutch's young but talented Offensive Line, if they come out and set the physical tone during the game it will be long with Schuring healthy and running like old, and Connell throwing the ball around. Need to play mistake free football and take advantage of the Johnnies mistakes that we will force.

Whats the tailgate attitude before the game. Couple buddies and fellow poster are going to be setting up shop before the game.

DutchHawk;  You appear conflicted in your analysis of your team... so what are they?  Are they young or are they old?  "Older more mature" followed by "young but talented Offensive Line".

Unfortunate for your squard however as the "seasoned" Johnnie defensive front will enjoy smacking around your talented group of young offensive lineman.
For all the yapping about your MVP laden offense, expect far less production on Saturday.  If the strength of your squad was the defense you might be able to hang for 2 quarters.  As it is the match-up does not look favorable.  Great Johnnie Defense, Prolific Johnnie Offense.  The J's have picked the right time of year to start playing "Johnnie Football".

Developing.....

Another instant classic...  ;D

So... no matter what, this game is in the control of SJU.  Now that is what WE like to hear in Iowa.  From the sounds of it, it might be the Johnnie fans who are going in overconfident

I can assure no one at St. John's is over confident gong against Central.  It's usually a close game.    However the point remains that St. John's has had its way with teams from the IIAC for a long time.  Sure Central can win this  game Saturday, but history has showed that no team from the IIAC has come out and dominated the Johnnies in the playoffs, very few have except for  (Mount Union (twice) and  Whitewater (once) in the last 20 years.  Until that happens I think its St. John's game to lose.  I can see the Johnnies blowing out Central, but I don't see Central blowing out the Johnnies. Central may win but I would bet it would be very close.

Man, this is fun....

Nah, I'm done now, I promise.

On to Bethel!!

Come on, DF1, you are on a roll and we all deserve to chuckle today.  Scratch that after last week's post we deserve those laughs that just plain bring tears to the eyes.  Enjoying your "tip toe through the over confident Johnnie poster's online two-lips.

Maybe the Johnnies will give us a little more respect in the future.  But I have to ask, if the Johnnies were having their way with us by winning 10-9, 21-18, 21-13, etc.  What is the correct terminology for what Central was doing yesterday?  I know, I know, Monkey Stomp.  But that's their term for it, we should develop our own.

DF2004, Gagliardi trophy voters left someone out? Fatherly tinted glasses on? Its all good. I was thinking the same thing. Did Central come out with a fire under their ass or did St.Johns just come out flat? Ask any of the Johnnie posters and I'm sure that they will tell you that it was a highly uncharacteristic contest.

Come on, guys -- the Gagliardi trophy is awarded (in true D3 fashion) to a player exemplifying excellence in athletics, academics and community service. I believe coaches/ADs/SIDs have the opportunity to nominate for this award. This award is so special because it not only recognizes and rewards the athletic achievement, but the academic and philanthropic side as well, which is ultimately what Division III is all about.

second part is correct but SIDs/ADs/coaches aren't apart of the process.  Check out the list of individuals here

http://www.gojohnnies.com/gagliardi_trophy/default.htm#committee

notice the gojohnnies.com

They are part of the process -- the nomination process, as was correctly stated in the post you cite.

They are not generally part of the voting process, however, no.

df1 - great work, I for one wanted to do the same but am a bit too lazy to look up those pages of posts. Its a great feeling feeding crow to the Johnnies...maybe Bethel will learn and not talk so much.

Bring on the Royals....and Leave No Doubt! (Sorry coco et all...have to borrow it from you...if you dont mind!)

Central Left No Doubt with SJU this year.

Do the same with Bethel.

Might as well say it now im jumpin on the Central bandwagon along with the UNI bandwagon.  If Iowa and Iowa St. aren't going to do anything with their football season at least we have 2 teams succeeding.  Good luck to Cental and UNI and keep it goin showing Iowa does have good Football teams, maybe just not at the D-1 level.

Interesting that the Dutch are now channeling the old Linfield chant. There's no doubt the Dutch have a better record against SJU than the Wildcats do .... :)

DF1 - You post a very measured message a couple pages ago, then you go gloating down the river. As you know so well, it is tough eating the crow, but we don't have to do it all that often. I guess you should beat Bethel by 33 next week, if you go by the games both had against SJU. Will you give me 28 - I'm a generous guy.

Are the Vikings that much better than the Giants?

Congrats to the Dutch on an outstanding game Saturday. Enjoying listening to it the announcer's did a great job. I do have to be honest and say it hurts alittle more that the Knights didn't make the playoff's and that I believe they should have.  Ok now its time to get ready for Bethal. I'm on the Dutch bandwagon. (did I really say that). Do the IIAC proud.

GO KNIGHT'S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO DUTCH  LEAVE NO DOUBT

Will you be gracing us with your presence by chance Saturday?

Seriously thinking about it, only one problem having nothing but orange and black to wear.

I should have also said Congratulations on playing a fine game, and Good Luck in the next week(s).

If some are still wondering and haven't been to the MIAC PP, or read the article on the Johnnie web site, Gagliardi played a lot of seniors late because it was their last game, and Kofoed needed one more TD pass to get 100 in his career, and Weber was very close to 1000 receiving yards, which he did achieve.

Dsquared

I think it has been apparent that I was on the Central bandwagon immediately following the Wartburg game.  I won't say I wasn't sore that my Knights lost, but I saw a great Central team.  They have TOTALLY come into form for the playoffs... they did exactly what needed to be done to get to the playoffs, now they are dominating.  Man... I love it that an IIAC team is excelling in the playoffs.  2 "leave no doubt" wins looks VERY good in the eyes of the selection committee.  You are paving the way for MUCH more respect for IIAC teams in the playoffs again.

Good luck through the rest of the playoffs.  I don't even have to say to not look ahead... these Dutch are focused and ready to go!!!

PS... DF1, great quotes.  Making the other team eat crow is ALWAYS sweet... and making the over-confident fans eat crow is EVEN sweeter!!!
