Really? Central isn't known for its tailgating atmposphere the way Wartburg is.... welcome!

It would be fun to meet the posters from around the conference. if your're interested, drop me a personal message -- I would love to exchange phone numbers so that we can meet up on game day.

Yeah, I know about Wartburg being the tail-gating place in the IIAC, but there were plenty of people in the parking lot.  Maybe they were just being friendly to the coaching staff as we entered the stadium, but they offered us some food and some brews...  ;D
Go Norse!!!

Brews?? On a "dry" campus?? I'm shocked!!  :o

Nah, just kidding -- glad they made you feel welcome! We're looking forward to seeing you again on Saturday!

Go Dutch!

Won't make it this Saturday as I will be in Minnesota preparing to attend the Sunday afternoon contest between my beloved Lions and those purple-clad Vi-Queens...but I will make it a game in Pella during the 2008 season.
Go Norse!!!

Maybe a small contingent of Norse heading to Pella Saturday, I'll let you know later in the week Walston anf DF1.  Expecting a good game. Neither team will be surprised by what they get from the other. The Royals have played plenty of good passing attacks this season and the Dutch have handled a couple pretty good running teams, in Dubuque and Luther. The weather this time of year lends itself well to a ball control offense.
One thing a little over looked in last weeks game was the time of posession. It was still anybodies game at half 17-0, St. Johns had the wind in the third quarter, but only had the ball for three minutes. If thats the other way around, its a whole different ball game.

I don't know about the wind being such a help as most of the day it was out of the West more than South or North so the wind was not huge IMO.  The wind was kind of from the Southwest but the flag was pointing straight East.  The third quarter was huge as the Dutch drove the ball and got 3 on the first posession of the half.  If St Johns had answered that score I think it may have been a different game but they didn't so the time of posession is kind of a moot point.

Pat,

On a game day note.  When will you get to the field.  If you get there in good time come by the South parking lot and enjoy some good hot soup and some Dutch pastries.  I have no idea what your schedule is but would love to have you stop by and have some food.

I should have known better.

One place the wind made a difference was the last time Central kicked off into the wind.  The kick-off before hadn't gone anywhere and St. John's got a good return.  So, the next time they went for a squib that bounced off one of the St. John's up guys and back to a Central guy.  It was great and I hope they add it to the play book along with the Miracle in the Mud fake field goal play.  They can call it the Ricochet Kick-Off.

This is on Bethel fan checking in and hoping this boards discussion moves away from a team who got stomped out of the playoffs...

I'm excited about the game this week for a number of reasons

1. I'm hoping for some redemption for the Royals. I watched us lose twice in the last 4 years to Central in games we could have won.  I'm not taking anything away from those Central teams but I really feel like we should have won both of them.  Also I'm sure all our seniors have those games in the back of their head and want some pay back.  I'm sure they also know that Central finds a way to win and hopefully this will help US "leave no doubt"   ;)

2.  I will get to attended my 2 game of the year.  My first 3 years of college I went to every game.  Then last year, my senior year, I unexpectedly got a job with MNF which pulled me away from the cities every weekend.  I have the same type of job this year but fortunately I can come watch the guys this weekend.

3. I get to see classmates and 5th year seniors Ben Wetzel, Steve Luebke, Tommy Davis, and Aaron Moberg play at least once more game.

4. Because last time I went to Central I got really sunburnt and I'm excited that won't happen this time.

5.  Rumor is Central is pretty good this year so it will be fun to see what they are all about.

6.  I'm buying a hybrid car and am excited to make my first, long, gas friendly drive with it.

Best of luck to both teams this week!

In case anyone is interested, Dubuque has their 2008 schedule up.

September 13th is showing as TBA.  Wisconsin Lutheran had shown they were hosting UD on that date but they have taken down their future schedules from their site.  Don't know if they backed out of the series or if UD did.  I am thinking WLC did with their moving to a new conference coupled with the fact they really got spanked the last 2 years by UD.

Also says they play Central in Indianola
30 IIAC Championships
20 Division III Playoff Appearances

Welcome to Iowa Freebird.  You may have won the stat battle both of those games but we know that only one stat counts and that is what is on the scoreboard.  The missed extra point was the difference in 04 and the 05 game was a total team effort.  I think you have seen that the Dutch pride themselves on that fact.  They don't care where the stats come from just that there are enough points on the board to win.  I agree with you that it will be a good game and we are excited about it as well.  Safe travels to all who are planning on coming.

Sept. 20th @ Luther

Possibly make it if my wife is nice and allows me...

Oct. 18th against Cornell (homecoming)
Nov. 8th @ Wartburg...if its not really really cold!!!
