DF2K4 - I suppose I should have worded things a bit differently.  Hope has been a playoff caliber team.  But that is helped by playing in the MIAA which I would maybe lump in with the Midwest Conference.  A decent conference but certainly not up to OAC, MIAC, or IIAC standards.

DutchFan was asking why Dubuque wouldn't try to schedule a "good" team like Augustana or Bethel and some other schools and I was just trying to point out that St. Thomas and Hope aren't necessarily the toughest teams out there.  They are good teams...not cupcakes, but I don't think I would go so far as to say Central has been scheduling non-con D-III bullies to toughen themselves up for conference play the last couple of years.

Augustana and Bethel in 04 and 05...good enough?

Monmouth was a conf champ the year before playing Wartburg.

The MWC...I suppose thats comparable to the MIAA but I was saying more to our scheduling Augustana and  Bethel the years before that.

Hey DutchFan2004 ...

Thanks for reminding me of the difference between MIAC and MIAA.  When I typed that out I knew something was wrong.  I guess I've seen MIAC so much lately and the MIAA died very quietly after the Olivet-Central game.

No problem just didn't want to confuse people and have them not thinking correctly.  Since we played Hope I remembered the differences.

Central passes out sun block at the homecoming games in September to prevent sunburns.  Is there something they can give away at play-off games in December to prevent frostbite?  The best thing would be for the game to be as much fun as last Saturday's.  I had such a good time, I barely noticed the weather.  It looked much colder on the visitor's side and hopefully that will be the case this week.

Hot off the wire - new PA annoucer this weekend in Pella.  Johnny Roz is heading South for the Aztec Bowl.

Nate and I will be filling in.  Nate only comes for the free hot dogs and soda.   :D

Johnny is not trying to be anyone but himself - he has a good time and its all in fun.  Don't want to listen, put your headpohnes on.

If it gets too bad, maybe Pat will take over.... ???

I don't think the announcing is a big deal. I have noticed some things but why mention it.  It takes a certain amount of guts to do things like that and the general population does not have the will to do public speaking because of the critics out there.

The game will be a good one.  I hope the Dutch of the last two weeks show up.  They have put two complete games together.  I hope that they have hit their stride.

Yep!  The Dutch pre-conference schedules are usually better on paper than most of the rest of the IIAC schools.

I have no problems with Cornell or any other non-contender playing some softer games as they don't have the firepower and consistency that the Dutch have on a yearly basis.

Loras often plays schools like St. Ambrose, St. Thomas, or this year Upper Iowa, but some years they water it down as well.

Luther has had St. Olaf as the tough to very tough game with the other game being a weaker opponent.

B.V. has played Bethel and Waldorf recently, and it seems like they had that type of schedule even before the last few years.

Wartburg and Coe both appear to have watered down their pre-conference schedules lately.  Coe used to play St. Thomas, but that was a few years ago correct?  I know I am not giving Monmouth enough credit, but that doesn't seem like a great pre-conference test for an elite IIAC school that wins 8 or more games every year.

I know Wartburg lost to Augsburg this year and the games have been tight over the last few years, but did Wartburg think they were scheduling a St. Olaf or even a St. Thomas level of an opponent when they picked up the Auggies?

And another HOT OFF THE WIRE if you want to hear a really good broadcast of this game in Pella Saturday, KXNO 1460 a.m. out of Des Moines has agreed to do the play by play with Marty Tirell of Marty and Miller.  I think Larry Kotlar could be involved as well.   Pre game starts on the air at 11:45 and I have it from the horses mouth they are thrilled to be doing this game.  As they said, it is one of the biggest sporting events in Iowa saturday and the NCAA Division playoffs is a big deal especially leading into the next round.  THIS GAME JUST KEEPS GETTING BIGGER AND BIGGER

I did hear that, great thing for Central and DIII football in Iowa. Did anyone else catch Coach Mac on Marty and Miller last night? He did a very nice job and they seemed to be impressed with him. I only caught the end of it but he was very complimentary of the fans and the alumni community. I feel pretty good going into any game with Coach Mac on our sideline.

I guess where I originally got defensive was when I posted some teams that might be possibilities for UD to schedule you came on with a pretty short comment about "why doesn't Dubuque try to schedule good teams"

Central does schedule good teams but it's not a year after year thing.  Bethel went 6-4 and 5-5 the 2 years Central played them.  Augustana is a traditional power but they aren't the same team anymore that won national titles in the 1980's.  Is Central playing Hope going 7-3 in the MIAA a whole lot better than UD playing Rockford going 7-3 in the UMAC???  Maybe a bit but not by a bunch.

I'm not trying to knock Central, they have scheduled some strong teams but to me you sounded like Central plays traditional D-III powers year after year while UD schedules nothing but patsies.  And, untill the last 2 years UD was a patsie.

From the not "hot off the wire" department - there's already a kicka$$ broadcast team doing the game this weekend.

It's called Dutch Radio and sportsknight on 92.1 and www.kniakrls.com.

And unlike the Johnny come lately's (no offense Pat!) - we've been following them all year, and we'll even follow them to Alliance if the Dutch win this weekend.

Of course all of us dutch fans appreciate the 92.1 broadcasts, particularly over the internet... just good to hear that some more Iowa media are picking up on the Dutch playoff run as well.

I've listened to a lot of great Central games done by you guys and have always enjoyed it, even though there is a Wartburg guy in the booth right?

If you are within listening range of a Des Moines radio station, you should be at the game cheering for Central.

I'm personally hoping the precip. holds off until well after the game, not just for the game but for travel purposes as well after. If it would happen to roll in during the game I think it would probably benefit Bethel a little more but Vance is due for a big one. He was awfully close to breaking a few big ones last week, hopefully this is the week where he can get loose. Bundle up Saturday, should be a fun one...rain/sleet/snow or shine!

Agree with you completely, would love to have the weather hold off for all the fans that have to travel for both squads.  Was more just wondering in terms of game impact.  Also hoping it doesn't keep fans for both teams from coming out to support their respective teams.

I think Vance is ready to break the big one too.  He was carrying a lot of Johnnie defenders on Saturday for extra yardage out of nothing.  Good to see he is back to form when we need him the most.  Also glad that Connell is an excellent option QB.  Nobody I would rather have running the O.
