Central does schedule good teams but it's not a year after year thing.  Bethel went 6-4 and 5-5 the 2 years Central played them.  Augustana is a traditional power but they aren't the same team anymore that won national titles in the 1980's.  Is Central playing Hope going 7-3 in the MIAA a whole lot better than UD playing Rockford going 7-3 in the UMAC???  Maybe a bit but not by a bunch.

I'm not trying to knock Central, they have scheduled some strong teams but to me you sounded like Central plays traditional D-III powers year after year while UD schedules nothing but patsies.  And, untill the last 2 years UD was a patsie.

You can't know what a team is going to go the year you play them when you schedule them, so you have to look at what they did the years when you put them on the schedule if you want to know if a team is scheduling tough competition or not.  I think Bethel and Augustana were gutsy selections by the Dutch, but then again, I wear red blinders.

Hope was scheduled because of the connection between the two schools both being RCA Colleges and because Hope was Coach Schipper's alma mater and he had always wanted the two to play.  Too bad he didn't live to see the first ever meeting last year.  Scheduling them had nothing to do with how difficult they were to play, but to get that first ever meeting of the two in football.  They have played in basketball several times and it is always a fun pairing.

If you are within listening range of a Des Moines radio station, you should be at the game cheering for Central.

I'll listen to it from my "warm" house, thank you.  Can you honestly say you'd be in Indianola cheering for Simpson if that were the case?  Based on some of your comments over the past years - I doubt it.   :)

Central faithful,

How do you think the weather will effect your passing game?  Does it get windy in your stadium?

I would have to think the worse the weather the better it is for us. Thoughts?

Here's a link to a preview for the Central/Bethel game written by one of the best SID's your going to find anywhere,  Larry Happel. Central is lucky to have him.

I dont think the weather will be an issue, if it is for us it will be for you guys as well. Weve got a proven running back, as do you and we can just as easily load the box if it gets that crappy out and it will turn into a 3-0 game or something odd like that. I think Bethel needs to hope for it to be really crappy because our passing game is tough to stop, especially with the speed at wide out! I agree that Vance is also due for a breakout game, this young o-line is getting better week by week, look for a big one this week! You have more control of the ball throwing into the wind, thats Mac's thought anyways and I agree, the ball wont sail on you so I dont think the wind is much of a factor. Probably mostly in the kicking game.

How are Bethel's special teams??

This game is huge in Iowa and the Dutch program. You cant build a bigger recruiting tool than going deep into the playoffs, especially after we take care of business on Saturday. Makes Coach McMartins job easier!!

A deep playoff run is a huge recruiting advantage as is finishing the regular season with a 2 win advantage over the season records of all the other conference teams for the second year in a row helps as well.  It particularly helps when you are trying to keep a more even ratio between males and females on campus.  It's all good!

Well the last two games that I can remember in the rain the Dutch ran and threw the ball equally well.  Last year at Cornell (I know that they are not the D that Bethel is) they played in a rain storm all game.  Connell had 3 TD passes that game.  We had some rain in the Hope game last year and we still threw the ball.  This year we had a little sprinkle one game and it did not affect the throwing.  I think the rain is not going to affect the Dutch all that much I don't know about the Royals how will the do?

Special teams are ok, nothing special.  Their kicking game is pretty weak, 30 yds is right around max for a fg, although he hit one a little longer against sju.  The punter is decent, but they've had some trouble with longsnapping recently.  Their coverage on punt and kickoff is pretty good, haven't seen many huge returns on us, but when the kicker puts it at the 15, the return team is going to end up with decent field position regardless of the coverage.

Monmouth was a conf champ the year before playing Wartburg.

The MWC...I suppose thats comparable to the MIAA but I was saying more to our scheduling Augustana and  Bethel the years before that.
That Monmouth AQ, however, lost 62-3 in round one.  One of the worst West playoff teams in years ...

Tim has always had good command of the ball in inclement weather. We are good at protecting the ball and taking it away from other teams. That will make a difference come Saturday.

GoldandBlueBU underestimates our special teams.  They have been the difference in more than one game, and our punting game has only been in question one week this year.  But enough on our strengths and game plans, to answer the comment on if you are in listening distance from Pella, absolutely agreed.  I think you can expect a lot of folks that are out just looking for a good game.  The weather is football weather, and I dont think anyone here is a stranger to that.  I think KXNO is a great addition and will allow you to listen under your earmuffs...  As far as Bethel goes, our run game is below average, our QB is slow, our defense is overated, and Bethel probably does not stand a chance, but just for grins, we think we should come down anyway.  Couldnt want a better town to play in seriously, and the reality of it is for the seniors on one team, it will be their last game, and to them I wish them a lifetime of memories from Saturday.....
