Congratulations to the Central Dutch on a great football season and thanks to the seniors for bringing us back where we Dutch fans believe the Central football team belongs.  You seniors have set a great example the a high bar for the future teams.  You are all class!  Thanks for playing up to the end and showing great sportsmanship in the process.  You took some cheap shots at the end of the game and with a frustrating day, it would have been easy to reciprocate in kind.  Wish you could all play for the Dutch as long as you wanted.  You were a fun and exciting team to watch.  You did Central proud and you are all winners, regardless of the score.

Congratulations to Bethel on their win and good luck next week.

Since Buena Vista finished sixth in the IIAC, I would say Bethel would have finished about seventh.   :D

Great season Dutch! It's been a great ride, the seniors on this team really had a good run...something they will always remember. Good luck to Bethel going out east, obviously a tough task, but for every one of us D3 fans knock them off somehow!

Pretty crappy day overall weather-wise, but no excuses. Bethel played well despite the conditions and hopefully they can give MU a run for their money.

A lot of good kids will be hanging it up for the last time this afternoon, hopefully they can look back on their careers at Central with a lot of pride. Their success on the field will hopefully transcend to their future endeavors. CUI

So....when's the turkey shoot?  Do they still do that?

Since Augsburg finished fifth in the MIAC, I would say Wartburg would have finished about 12th. Right about even with Macalester.   :)

Voice of the Dutch

Sorry about all of the technical problems with our broadcast / webcast earlier today.  Sleet reeked havoc with some of our equipment - hope some of you stuck with us and enjoyed the Central side of things.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in on the radio and internet throughout the season - hope you enjoy my biaed calls all year long.  That's something I'll never apologize for - I bleed red through and through.

Thanks to this team, especially the seniors, for another GREAT year.  It's so much fun to follow you guys, and I can't wait to do it again next year.

Is anyone going to Mahoney's to watch the Bill's game tomorrow.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Congrats Dutch on a great season.  We lost our power and it just came back on.  Sorry to hear of the loss, you represented our conference well and you will be at or near the top of the IIAC again next year.

Nice rain here in DM right now. If it weren't 30 degrees, there would be no problems.
Not a nice rain if you were out in it!  The single worse conditions i've ever sat through a game in over 40 years of watchin' play.

Started with about 2 inches of sleet on the field, three snopw plows not getting caught up.  Then it rained about a frikkin inch.  then the wind blew in my face and the blanket keeping my ars off the ice got soaked.   On top of that we had to wait an extra 10 minutes at half because the MO refs had to change into dry gear, Or so I heard.

Haven't read all the posts yet, lots of guys posting like crazy.  Props for Bethel , they did what they had to do to control the game.  The weather definitely favored the better running team, which today was BU.  I was going to rant about th epoor officiating, but will leave that to others.  back to reading posts.

Why would BU go for it on 4th and deep in own territory?  Typical of BU's play calling?
Again wasn't paying attention, but sounded like a bad snap.  If they were actually going for it, sound like the old coach Johnson is back.

I think the word in the Dutch stands was "Thanks for the gift coach"  it was a direct snap, just plain old dropped it.

Maybe, just maybe, someone will realize that SJU played a lousy game last week, and Central probably played a bit better than they really are. Anyone?

Funny, I was thinking (before my head was too cold to thnk) How did SJU stay within a point of these guys?

Great season, Bethel.  You definitely proved that you knew how to play on days like today.  Hopefully this serves as a learning experience for Central, and days like today won't be such a scary thing in the future.

Sorry fellow IIAC fans for not carrying the torch further for us.  It sure sounded like the Dutch gave it all they could, and fell to the better team.

Back to business...you know...like making fun of Wartburg Fan's kid for never playing a playoff game in his career (j/k).

Time to re-load, Dutch!

Wartburg fan's kid did play in a playoff game. Had five receptions.

From the Central press release:

McMartin refused to blame Central's struggles on the difficult weather conditions.
"Well, both teams have to play in them and I know that sounds like coach-speak but it's true," he said. "Credit Bethel. They made the plays at critical times when they had to make them. That didn't happen for us today.

Typical understated reply by Coach Mac.  if there ever was a game where a team HAS to sucessfully run the ball, this was it.  I know the Dutch were playing a little "Dance with who bring ya" with all the pass calls, but this was not Connell's day.  He just didn't have the control of the ball he needed in this crappy weather.   Not that the loss was Tim's fault, Bethel won it in the trenches, got good pushes up front and had the running yards and TOP to show for it.  Bethel won the battle of turnovers and running yards on a day when passing was very difficult.  Give us a dry day and I fully believe the outcome is reversed. No disrespect to Bethel, thats the best O-line I've seen this year.

Anyway, congrats ot ALL the Central seniors, You've been a joy to watch, excellent FB and great attitude, sportsmanship and committment.  Wish you all the best in wherever you go pro next year.

Young Dutch - celebrate this great season with your teammates, but get to thinking about next year and a 4th IIAC trophy real soon!

While Bethel earned its win over SJU, it took a long kick return for TD and a TD with a less than a minute to play to do it. I'm guessing last Saturday's game in Pella is definitely SJU's worse of the season. I'll leave it for the Dutch to decide if it was their best.

But I think it's clear that three pretty good teams have played in Pella the past two weeks. A happy offseason to all. Any chance Connell, Schuring or others will get Aztec spots?
