Sherden would have been a lot better and had a lot better career with about 1/3rd less touches. Of course, a better supporting cast would have allowed that.

Regarding the WIAC...technically, until they start offering scholarships they are D3.

Speaking only from the 1st-hand standpoint of a IIAC tuition-paying parent (and knowing what the folks that go to SCIAC schools pay); It WOULD BE NICE IF it only cost approximately 10k per year to send my kid to school.  Maybe I missed something on the UW-W website about in-state tuition...and I know that out of state is higher...

It is well documented the tuition costs at Cornell, for example.  The in-state cost at a UW is about 33% the cost of an IIAC school.  I see that as a an inarguable advantage than what a kid at, say Lawrence University, would pay.  To me that's the functional equivalent to athletic aid.  It's a competitive advantage at worst.

If I am a parent in Wisconsin of an aspiring student/athlete that missed the cut otherwise, the UW schools are at the top of my kid's list for sure.

That said...they were a pleasure to watch.  Beaver is outstanding and the entire team earned that win.

I just got through watching the game on DVR.   D3 in HD is sweet.

Notes:

UWW's defense, in my opinion was the difference.  Beaver had a great game to be sure...but he fumbled twice and the D bailed him out on one and the O-Lineman bailed him out on the other.

MUC fumbled 6 times, lost 3.  UWW D was attacking the football.

I thought UWW's offensive coordinator had a very good scheme.  UWW passed quite a bit on 1st down and ran on 2nd down with generally positive results even of the 1st down pass was incomplete.  Credit to Beaver's skills and the OLine

This is why I was hoping to see the Dutch get a chance to test MUC.  With their pass-run attack, I thought they might be able to find a chink in the MUC armor.  I felt a running team such as Bethel had no chance.

UWW generally looked more physical in both sides of the ball.  Very impressed with how UWW defenders made the initial hit and the MUC ballcarriers generally got almost no yards after contact.

If any NFL scouts came to watch MUC's Garcon, they had to have left unimpressed.  Andy Murray of UWW seemed to be everywhere.

With all the holding our refs allowed UWW still got pressure on MUC's QB.

I wondered to myself how Sherden would do behind that UWW O-Line...

It took a State school, with roughly 1/3 the tuition cost and with an enrollment of 7500 to take down MUC.  I am actually semi-shocked UWW could ever be looked at as an underdog.  Forget Geico, Danny Jones just saved a ton of money transferring from Cal Lu to UWW...and got a nice championship ring to go with it.

I don't know why...but I like the colors on both teams.  ;)

Purple, Its 2:30 CDT in Chicago and it has been snowing like a crazy.  For a change of pace you can come sit in the truck with me and push snow/talk about IIAC football.
Just wanting to make sure you know how much you would benefit from moving to the midwest and experiences a trure 4 season.  So how is the search for IA real estate coming?

Ya know, you think I'm not suffering?  I darned near got sunburned yesterday putting up the Christmas lights.

And this morning I waited for a voucher to buy a Wii outside the Circuit City for a whole hour and a half in 45 degree(!) weather at 6:30 AM.  Good thing I had the presence of mind to wear a sweatshirt under my coat.   8)

Heys you really know how to hurt us back in Iowa

Purple Heys

OK, this was killing me...the ESPN announcers kept saying that Kehres looked like Christopher Walken and I can see it....a bit.

But who he really looks like to me, and this is obscure, is the Bad-Guy minor league manager of the team from Dothan in the TV Movie "Long Gone".

I know that Kehres is a good guy...but him chomping on that gum just reminded me of my days in Alabama and Florida and the PeeWee football coaches I had...

Just a random thought.
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

One guy I wouldn't want to be:

#6 for MUC.

He was forever posterized by Beaver as he attempted to bring Beaver down on that long run late in the first half.

Heys III and I replayed that over and over on the DVR, and it got funnier and funnier.

I expect we'll see that in the ESPN end of year "Year in Sports" highlights.

Sportsknight,
I did a search on youtube for WB and I watched  your Sportsknight 150 special that you produced.
Nice work.   Even Walston made a few apperances on the special as well.

What is Licko, Buzza, & Marlin up to these days?  Last I heard (it's been awhile) Licko was working for KCRG or KGAN?
I actually just got back to Iowa from your neck of the woods, Devine.  Was down in KC over the weekend visiting my cousin that you know and taking in today's Titans win over the Chiefs.  A little chilly, but a good time at Arrowhead.

That's actually just one segment of the SK@150 special.  Got that online before football season started and then didn't get around to putting the rest up.  Maybe I can tackle that task in the week between Xmas and New Years.

Licko worked at KWWL for a couple years right out of school and then took a public relations job for some company down in CR.  Last I knew, he's out in Denver at another PR company these days.
Marlin started out as a photographer at WOI in DM.  Went from there to the Assignment Editor job at KWWL in mid-03ish.  Just left that gig a couple months ago to work at Mudd Group in CF in some variety.  Got married a couple years back and his first little one is about a year old.
Buzza is the director of sports marketing for the Waterloo Convention and Visitor's Bureau.  He was actually diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer back in August, but is doing very well.  Had back surgery about two months ago and that relieved a lot of his pain and such.  He was on crutches for about six weeks, but is getting a lot more mobile these days.

All you Norse people keep us posted on the word about the new coach.  Isnt this supposed to be released at 9am this morning.  Maybe I just made this up in my head last night.  Either way I know we will all be interested in hearing.

any news on luther? How about the staff at simpson?
My sources report that Lounsberry is out, the new head coach brought an OC with him.  Don't know his name.
At this point, all other coaches still on staff (as far as we know, they've been out recruiting....)

Whats the deal with Lounsberry, wasnt this a high profile deal when he came back to Simpson?  Does the majority not like him, or what is the deal with him.  I know this might be a question that might require 8 pages of explanation so the cliff notes version would be outstanding if you can give any information.

I don't know for sure what actually happened - whether it was just a case of the head coach bringing in his own guy or if there was more to it.  My personal opinion - now that he's gone and my kids are done I'll speak a little more freely - he was very arrogant and even though he had an impressive resume on paper, if you dig deeper it was deceiving.  Game in and game out his play calling was bad.  The kids also did not like or (more importantly) respect him - regardless of whether they played offense or defense.  I think it would have been a bad situation if he had gotten the head job and from what I heard, the returning players voiced that.   Niemann was a class act but in my opinion Lounsberry does not fall in that category.  I will never bad mouth Simpson football as my kids both had a great experience there but a change was needed and from the sounds of it, the new staff will be a positive thing.
