One could argue that these women are not paid nearly enough.  From what it sounds like they have a true committment to there career and take it very serriously.  In regards to coaching salaries, I heard this from all my coaches:  You do not get into coaching to make money.  Its merely for the love of the game.  Intersting thing to read is the coaches corner on the BVU athletics website.  The head BB coach outlined his week and his allocations of time to his family and the basketball team.  If you have a chance read this.

Thanks for the info Klop.  It was a good read.  I always expected it to be tough for the head coaches to have families and deal with all of their duties to the job and still make it to their kids events, this was a good blog to really get an inside look.  I know my parents where always following me to watch games both in high school and college (even if I spent most of it on the sidelines).  As I am sure many of the parents on here can attest to, it's just getting to see your kid and support them in activities they love.

As for D3 compared to D1...I liked Freddie's comment.  I am sure many of us on here would do the same with a big paycheck.  I'm still hoping Jackson can have another big game for me as I wrap up my fantasy football seasons this weekend.

I too still keep in contact with a couple of professors & advisers from Wartburg as well as take time to chat with my coaches when I get to a game.  I also keep in contact with my work study boss (even if he is a Packers fan)...I personally think he only stays in contact with me so I can bring Mabe's Pizza or SG Pop to him when I visit Waverly.  Honestly though, he is always keeping me and the rest of our crew updated on where all the alum are and what they are up to.

I just noticed the Norse schedule is up. Dubuque goes to Redlands, Luther goes to Forest City.Grrrrrrrrrrr

What is the capacity of the new UD stadium? Am I right that it isn't as many rows as the old one, but is a little longer?

I don't have any data on it now.  They had capacity and all that at one time.  If it is less rows I think it's not by more than 2 or 3 rows.  By the looks of it, it is a bit longer, plus there is visitor side seating now where there didn't used to be.  How's that for not really telling you anything?!?!

I want to say I read the capacity was to be 5,000.  I'll look things up and get back to you once I actually know something.

The W looks fantastic by the way!!!

Given all of the change, it is too bad that the Waldorf game isn't until the middle of the year.  They could use an easier game early on just to get their feet wet.

The start of 2008 isn't the same kind of talent and experienced opposition (St. Olaf, Central, and Wartburg) right out of the gate like this year.

I like that the Wartburg game is in November.  The Oles are coming to Decorah for the first time since 2005. ???  It would be a great way to start the season by beating them for the first time since 2003.

Having the Oles and the Spartans at home right out of the gate, given the number of multiple year all conference preformers they lose, might be a blessing. I wouldn't mind moving that bye week between Wartburg and Coe.

Klop, great post re: coaches not getting into it for the money and how D-III coaches really get a lot of interaction with their players.  And to Walston and dutchfan1 for noting that at the D-III level in general you have that closer interaction with coaches and faculty.  I know from my sisters attending big schools they never had that.

Regarding any UD fans attending the Redlands game I am sure the Cali kids on the UD roster will try to have their friends and family at the game.  I don't know how many from Dubuque will make the trip.  I tried to tie the trip to Redlands in with visiting Disneyland since my wife is possibly the most devoted Disney fan out there.  Of course the whole pulling the kids out of school after they had only been back for 2 weeks kind of nixed the whole deal!!!

And for Klop, the HVAC thing appears to be solved.  I no longer need to wear gloves to type on the keyboard.  I now bring our dog in here so maybe her body heat helps heat the place up.  I figured my office needed a mascot/guard dog!!!

Oh Doolittle you would be a hero in your kids eye more so if you did take them out of school.  I bet the way it seems you might even teach them more in Cali than they would learn in class anyway  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm jealous of Dubuque's game at Redlands.  I hope Central goes some place exotic for a non-conference game.  Whoever puts the Dubuque schedule on their web site should check the October 11 game.  It says they play Central at Indianola!

Pella...Indianola...what's the difference???  ;D

I think people would miss the Dutch letters in Indianola  ;D ;D ;D

5000 would make it close to the biggest stadium in the conference. I think just smaller than Carlson Stadium. Are they planning on having HS games there?

The One.  It kind of puts things in perspective.  I mean we all love and back our teams strongly but we can say that conference wide all of the coaches at our repective schools are making these types of sacrifices and burning the candle at both ends.  Everyone is out for the common good and wanting the same thing . To win the IIAC title, national title, and not act like UWW after you win a title :o

Yikes, it's a good thing the North won the Civil War.  That way we still have all those southern red necks we can put on "Cops"  Surprisingly enough, he had a shirt on!!!

Walston, I'm thinking 5,000 must be a little high of an estimate on my part.  I can't find anything new but I know the old stadium used to say 2,500 capacity.  Now, maybe that was a fire marshall thing for how many could be inside the gates, I don't know if the old one sat that many people.  I wouldn't be surprised if the new stand held 3,000 with the visitors side holding 1,000 for a 4,000 total.  But, that is just a guess on my part.

Here is something you don't see everyday.  In wrestling Wartburg beat King's College 56 to minus 1 at the Desert Duals in Las Vegas.  Apparently someone on the King's team must have lost their cool after one of several defeats.
