I thought the phrase was "luck of the Irish"....  ;D

If you want to promote division 3 sports, do a google search for pontiac game changing performance and vote for the only d3 play that will likely be seen there for a long time.  We only have a few days left and Appalachain State is currently in the lead.

A vote for Trinity is a vote for d3football.

Well the phrase IS "luck of the Irish"  But I think the Dutch were lucky when that boy saved the country by sticking his finger in the dike!!!  Therefore that luck can be transferred over to any sports teams bearing their name.  And it almost certainly has nothing to do with good coaching or good players performing well on the field!!!

Yes, TU2698 I will go vote for the Millsaps game changing moment...it might not win but it should!!!

And on the front page of this site it mentions former Dubuque coach Jim Collins moving up to Div. II Saginaw Valley State.  He went 4-16 in 4 years at Dubuque then manages to turn Capital into a regular playoff participant...Hmm.

So Doolittle what are you saying?  UD is not a good place?  Or that he just wasn't the right guy at the right time? He must be a decent coach as the OAC is a pretty tough conference.

No, that is what I wonder.  For whatever reasons he wasn't successfull at Dubuque.  Was it lack of budget??? Was it he was younger then and learning from that made him successfull at Capital???  Does he find it easier to recruit to Capital than Dubuque???  Does Capital have more resources available to him???  I don't even remember if he left because he was kicked out the door or if he wanted out of there.  I really don't know.

And from that, with him moving up to D-II.  What about Braughtigam.  He took over at Mt. Senario at a young age and stayed there for a long time.  Only leaving when that place was going out of business.  He has stuck it out in Dubuque.  Is he happy there and doesn't want to move on or does he have plans for other places???

Wow, everyone must have left town for the holidays. I guess with the schools shut down and all the students home, there isn't much to talk about.

Only eight months 'till camps start!

Don't D111 get to have some spring football this year ?????

D-III has had spring football for a while. It's the IIAC that's new to it.

4-26 at Dubuque. Impressive that someone else took a chance on him. Obviously paid off.

Congrats on the successfull surgery.  Surgeries, no matter how minor are a scary thing.  Glad all went well.  Does that mean he can now flip you the bird pain free after you ask him to shovel the driveway???  ;D

Well I suppose that is an option.  However we have a nice snow blower and Mrs. Dutchfan would  not let him out to do it anyway so I guess I will just have to bite the bullet and do it.  Hey a thought did just occur.  Maybe I have a lucky snow blower.

If your snow blower is lucky, you better hope for some early snow come September, otherwise you won't get to use it very much during the football season...and to be honest, I don't think the Dutch need anymore luck.  After all, it is how they won ALL of those close football games this season  ;) ;) ;)

Well you know what they say better to be lucky than good sometimes.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

You just lucked yourselves all the way to the Quarterfinals...when does the luck run out?  I hope you guys aren't planning on going a lucky 12-1 next year :)

Not if it is Fighting Irish...especially this year.  No luck of any sort for them.

I just read in the KC Star that Buffalo will be coming to KC next fall

This is probably about as close to Cedar Rapids that Freddy is going to be playing

on a different subject, Wes Welker could pass for Tim Dwight's twin in pads

When we were seated at a table and our drinks were delivered we noticed a severe tilt in the table.  So severe in fact that liquid was flowing out of our tumblers.  I mentioned something to the waitress and antiscipated we would be moved.  Instead they just asked us to back up and they rotated the table 180 degrees.  Then it was perfectly flat.  Apparently over the years the building settled but instead of repairing the floor they would just cut the legs of tables to have flat surfaces.  I loved it.

Sounds pretty typical of Breitbach's.  Christmas night they had a story about the fire on one of the CR TV stations and a sound bite from Mike Breitbach that went something along the lines of "We're going to rebuild eventually.  I haven't really run the idea past my wife yet, but I'm sure I can talk her into it."

That said, what are some other favorite places to eat or watering holes that IIAC fans are known to frequent?  Here'd be my list:
Storm Lake:  Mullarky's or Duffy's for drinks and this all-night breakfast place that I can't remember the name of for a stomach-settler on the way home.
Pella:  Dutch letters seem to be a favorite
Cedar Rapids:  Depending on where you're coming from/going to, there are plenty of options.  Gringo's down by the Cell Center is a good one.
Mount Vernon:  If you have the time, driving over to Solon for a Jonesy's tenderloin is usually worth the trip.
Dubuque:  Way too many places to name...The Shot Tower's pizza is damned good, Lot 1 and Bartini's are some good downtown bars, Bricktown has some nice food.  But for a real treat, navigate your way to the Moracco.
Decorah:  One word - Mabe's.
Indianola:  Two words - Des Moines
Waverly:  Joe's, the OP, and the Goat are good options for both food and drink right near campus.

The Show

sportsknight - I think you mean Puff's, not Duffy's.  And the all-night breakfast place was called The Pantry...seemed like they always had the best food, of course it could have something to do with the time of day and condition that you're in at the time. ::)

It was either that or Monty's wife really knew how to throw eggs on a flat grill :o

For packing house town and enough diversity to meet people from all around the globe, Storm Lake did have a few decent places to throw a few down.  I mean come on what other town had Nickle Pitchers.

I will give +k to Roscoes in Decorah and their Combat juice.  That stuff was a man eater.
