Sportsknight .... what is the first name of IIAC Commissioner Cochrane?  I went to school with a Cochrane and wonder if its his younger brother?
John.  I don't know what his sibling status is, but I'm pretty sure he went to Iowa State for undergrad and the U of Iowa for law school.

Also, I realize this is the football board, but when are the IIAC basketball schedulers going to realize that rivalry games should be played on the weekend?  This year's Wartburg-Luther games are on a Monday and a Wednesday.  Both Dubuque-Loras games are on Wednesdays.  Central-Simpson?  Monday and Wednesday.  Coe-Cornell?  First meeting on a Wednesday and the second on a Saturday.  One out of the eight rivalry match-ups are on weekdays.

How's everybody doing? I hope everyone's new yar started off well. I haven't been on in a while and I'd thought I'd give the Minnesota guys a chance to -k me again!  ::)

Were you a student @ WC when the LC- Wart b-ball games were scheduled on the weekends of LC's  j-term breaks? Talk about dead rivalry crowds.
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Here's the commishes bio from the IIAC Web Site...he played football at Kansas before transfering to ISU.

QuoteJohn T. Cochrane assumed his duties as the first full-time Commissioner of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in mid-July 2001.  As Commissioner, he serves as the chief operating officer and works directly with the Presidents, Faculty Representatives and Directors of Athletics to administer the affairs of the League.

He is responsible for promoting and upholding the mission of the IIAC and its constitution; coordinates and oversees the development of all Conference schedules and tournaments; oversees the planning and conduct of all Conference tournaments, championships and special events.  In addition, he interprets and enforces IIAC and NCAA Division III rules and legislation; reviews, arbitrates and assists in the resolution of disputes between Conference members; and reviews eligibility reports for all student-athletes.

He joined the IIAC after seven years with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in various positions.  Most recently, Cochrane served as the Assistant Director of Championships where he oversaw the conduct of nine NCAA Championships in all three divisions.  He was involved in establishing the policies and procedures for the respective sports, the Championship structures/fields, the team/individual selection process, criteria for site selection and host administrative procedures.

Prior to joining the NCAA, the Sioux City, Iowa native served as the Assistant Athletic Director at the University of Detroit for four years.

He earned his Bachelors Degree in Physical Education from Iowa State University in 1988 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa in 1990.  Prior to transferring to ISU for his junior year, he attended the University of Kansas where he was a member of the Jayhawks' football and tennis teams.

Also, I think it is better for the big games to be on teh weeknights, as more students attend those and are far more energetic crowds...

Kohawk Krazy ...

Thanks for the info on the IIAC Commish.  Turns out he wasn't the one I knew.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

That wasn't my experience at Wartburg. Weekend games = huge, obnoxious crowds. Weeknight games = only the diehards.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

ramfan27

I agree with Walston, while weeknights may get more students on the average, the weekend games with your rivals are where you get the big, raucus crowds that have been pre-gaming all day.  In 2004 our bball team played Coe on Saturday that happened to be Valentine's day and I told my then gf that we had to do something Friday night because of it....and she understood.

Klop, As a football player from BV, I can see why you would take that position always playing second fiddle.

Read this article if you have time.  I got bashed over on the WIAC board when I stated that one of the biggest road blocks to a playoff system in D1 was teleivsion companies.  Now after reading this it appears to be even more appearant.

The thing I find outstanding is that since Fox has exclusive rights through the 2010 season they see no changes happening.  Isnt the reason college football is so fun to watch is because its not about the money and the purity of the game.  Oh wait nevermind thats only with D3 football.  D3 might be the only division left where isnt about the money or the tv.

+k to your WH for seeing that.  I had the utmost respect and and supported BV baskeball for what it did for the institution and giving it attention.  The players however, and my support/respect for them is something I will not discuss on PP.

Question for Dubuque fans with Austin leaving to be head coach will this hurt your recuriting. He was your recuriting guy wasn't he or was it someone else that brought all those Florida kids in. Would like to hear what you think this will do to your Offense or if it will hurt at all.
