OK Groundhog lovers get ready for this one...

If, on that fateful day in February, I go out to get the paper barefooted and its so cold I have to go back inside and get my flip flops, then count on 6 more weeks of Winter.

8)

Now that was just sadistic! >:( ;)

If on Groundhog Day I go out and can find the newspaper under the snow, I figure there is hope! ;D

The way the weather has been here with snow about every day, it feels like the movie Groundhog Day!

I looked very seriously at real estate in the Greater Cedar Rapids Metropolitan area.

You folks may read about it but you just can't fathom how INSANE real estate prices got out here.

To think, before the crash, that I could sold my modest abode, and with the proceeds bought a modest CASTLE in the area AND fully funded ALL my kids college funds AND bought 2 new vehicles. with residual mortgage of roughly what I have now.

My brother in-law did this when he moved to Colorado from Orange County

Then I see pictures of frozen tundra, ice storms, tornadoes and figure we'll stick it out here and get sunburned over Christmas time.

And you are a native Californian...you ARE home.  Home is where the heart is.  I've visited family in San Diego and I could definately like it there...it's just not home for me.  Just like Iowa wouldn't be home for you.  The house we now live in is on our family farm.  My sons bedroom was my bedroom, which had been my dads bedroom, which had been my grandfathers bedroom...it was his bedroom when the house was new!!!  If I didn't have my family history here though, San Diego would be near the top of my list.  My parents lived for 6 years and 2 of my sisters were born in San Francisco and my dad has said if they had loads of money that is the one other place they would live besides right here.

On another note...I was picturing in my mind 20 years into the future and noting a lot of us from this site were still posting on here...while driving our flying cars of course...and the most talked about topic on the football board was if any teams out there were going to be strong enough to challenge the choke hold Dubuque and Cornell had on the conference championship since it had been YEARS since any team besides those two had even shared the title...of course DF2K4 was noting that his grandkids were now at Central so look out for them...old man doolittle then got a sick feeling in his gut remembering back to the early part of the century and that 3ot loss  ;D ;D ;D

Have you ever thought of being a writer?  There are a bunch on strike you might be able to get some work.  May be dangerous being a scab but the networks may just not care and meet your price.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

In 20 years will Dolittle still have the lucky lawn mower?

I can.

I bought a house in Santa Rosa California in 2000 and sold it in 2003 and made $135,000.  California was not home to me, but was where my wife was from.  We both like it here better, since everyone there has the attitude of give me your money or get out of my way.  We now live 300 yards from the Coralville resevoir, have boat rights on the resevoir and a 18 by 36 foot in ground pool that is eight feet deep in my back yard.  We also have an acre of land and a 3000 square foot house.  Oh yeah, we also bought a brand new Jeep Liberty.
The house we sold was on an 8000 square foot lot and was 2400 square feet.  We also had a home association that could tell us what trees we could have and what color the house could be.

IOWA, love it or leave it, man!

With 3 crazy and loud kids my wife doesn't want my motor starting anywhere near her  ;D

So in honor of Coe and Cornell being members of our conference for 1 decade now I took a look at how Dubuque has fared against each current conference school in that time period.  Central is the only school Dubuque has not beaten in that time...  0-10. That being said, 3-7 is the best the Spartans have done against anyone...that being against Cornell and Luther.  14-66 over all and 10 of those wins were in the last 2 years!!!

Dog you guys in for the massive snow storm that is heading our way.  If you might be putting a snow blade on the front of the lucky lawn mower.   ;D

On Reaburn:
I agree that you don't have to necessarly like your coach, but you do have to respect him.  Reaburn kind of demands respect from players, the same way some coach at Texas Tech would (extreme example, Reaburn doens't hold the record for number of wins).  I know a lot of guys that didn't like him but liked to play for him becuase he was a pretty good coach, although he does have a lot of tendencies.  I don't know a lot about Wabash, but wouldn't that have been a lateral move?  Are they that much better then Coe?  Just a question I truely didn't know.

Heys: I just saw on Mythbusters the other night that you can throw dynomite in a calm pond or river and create enough of a wave that you could get a small amount of surf from it.

the_mayne_event,

On the lateral move comment from Coe to Wabash...  Just my 2 cents.  In the last 7 years (Chris Creighton era) Wabash has had 2 Elite 8 finishes (losing to eventual Nat'l Champions both times), 4 NCAC championships, 3 playoff appearances, 1 - #1 seed in the North region ('05), and they have gone 63-15.  Then go to facilities...I have never been to Coe but have heard the football facilities are falling behind.  Their stadium seats 1,300.  Hollett Little Giant Stadium seats 5,000 and every other year 12,000 (extra seating brought in) for the Monon Bell game against DePauw.  The Allen Athletics center & Knowling Fieldhouse are also very impressive.  Not to mention, Wabash is about to undergo another large capital campaign that should yield...major stadium upgrades (scoreboards & press box improvements, field turf, and possibly field turf for practice.  Lastly, I would think Wabash would be extremely competitive to the higher end from a compensation standpoint.  Bottom line:  Football is a BIG DEAL at Wabash...to the students, to the administration, and to the alumni.

Lateral move??

I had no idea.   It was just a question.  I didn't mean to get anyone all huffy and puffy.  In my post I clearly stated "JUST A QUESTION I TRUELY DON'T KNOW"

Didn't mean to come off huffy puffy - sorry if I did.  I just think its a good step up and wanted to share why I feel that way.
