Having your head football coach be sought after is a great compliment.  Having your coach seek other postions and apply for other positions is a whole differnt ball game.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.  I hinted at this earlier in the week and I'll reiterate it now - I think Coe will be better off not having to go thru a "will he or won't he" situation every off-season.

Can't fault Raeburn for leaving one bit.  He gets to be closer to home, coach a team coming off a late-round playoff exit, and will likely make more bank.  Sounds like a good move to me.

I do find it very interesting that this now makes Vinny B. from UD the conference's longest-tenured coach.  Every school except for the Spartans has gone through a coaching change since Kac left Central after the 2003 season.  Sparty's come a long way from that 50+ IIAC game losing streak about a decade ago.

And you have to give Raeburn some credit for producing an NFL player.

Some, but not total credit.  I think Freddy making the league is much more a testament to Freddy's determination and work ethic.  Did Raeburn help instill those qualities?  Only Freddy can say that for sure.

I think that is an excellent point.  I think the credit of making an NFL team is credit to the player more than the coach.  You have to have a work ethic and work hard, a coach may help develop a work ethic but a player has to be willing to do the work.

Congrats to Coach Raeburn!  Best of luck and hope that there are many W's in your future.

What I really need to know today is if Purple Heys could get his paper today in his bare feet or if he needed to go back and put his flip flops on!!!

Will that determine if just Cali has 6 more weeks of winter??? Or does that effect all of the U.S.???

It may as well be for the whole country. There is just as much science behind that as a rodent in PA. that you have to poke with a stick to come out of his hole.

Wait a minute. We don't now if we have to poke Heys to get him up either.

:D Good one!!!

Well Coe losing their coach late in the year...or early depending on how you look at it will give us something to talk about during the long off season.  Hopefully the Coe backers will keep us all updated on how the search is going.  It's always fun to see how coaching searches go.

Interested follower of NCAC W's here, what can utes guys reveal about Coach Raeburn's offense and defense if any?

Number of backs employed, formations, favorite coverages....

style points...

anything for a preview of the new man at the Wabash helm..

Style of play overview for the IIAC might be helpful as a reference as well.  Knowing a little of Wartburg's AD's tenure as their head coach and Freddy Jackson am assuming the conference is somewhat run oriented.  Must be some vertical passing diversity in the league with a Hanover man amongst the IIAC head coaching ranks.

Hey Charlie,

You are staying at my place for Ragbrai!

I'll give you a call on Monday.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I've always figured groundhog day must have been developed FAR to the south.  Here in Michigan (or Illinois where I grew up) we're thrilled anytime winter is ONLY six more weeks! ;)

Coe will never be accused of having brain surgeon football players, only two academic all americans in Raeburns tenure.
Tommy Breitbach was robbed or he would have been the third. And you have to give Raeburn some credit for producing an NFL player.

More to come as I sort through my thoughts, but I think Raeburn -- and Coe -- has been given a bum rap on this board. Posters seem to be of the mindset that it's a bad thing when other schools express interest in your coach. I think it's the ultimate compliment.

Wabash got a good one. And Coe will again. Purple Heys need not apply.

I do not concur regarding the bum rap, at least from my perspective...

And another thing, what gives you the authority to call anyone out? None of the Coe faithful have any obligation to respond to your uninformed opinions.

That's opions to you...   8)

I woke up relatively early this morning, in preparation for this morning's baseball tryouts for Pony League for Heys Rev. 3.

I did not require poking.

As I usually do, I went out barefoot and though there was some residual dampness on the ground from the night before's mild drizzle, the driveway was clear and mostly dry.

I retrieved the morning's paper and did not, repeat, DID NOT, have to retreat back to Casa de Heys for the flip flops.

I am predicting an early Spring.

CAN'T WAIT FOR SPRING FOOTBALL!    ;D

All of us on one occasion or the other over the last week have straight up called out the Coe faithful.  We were almost begging at points to hear what you people where thinking.

It wasn't appropriate to give an opinion about the Raeburn situation until the decision was made.  Now that it has been made here is my opinion.

With John Chandler running the sports program Kohawk Nation will have nothing to worry about.  I think one thing he has proven is he knows how to hire talented coaches.

So Klop, since this place is all about answering questions:

Which school's coach had been at their school the longest at the start of the 2007 season?

The answer is Raeburn had been around longer than any other coach in the IIAC, it was just time.

If Raeburn had been around less than half of the other coaches than maybe an eyebrow should be raised.

As far as an opinion about Raeburn:

He was instrumental in our successful transition from the Midwest Conference to the IIAC and for that Coe fans will be eternally grateful.  He was Fred Jackson's coach which adds to his legacy going forward.  He also produced the first playoff win in school history.  I feel he was one of Coe's better coaches.  He's no Moray Eby, however.

Don't the Byrds have a song that sums this all up?  "turn, turn, turn."

All things that you could have stated before the decision was made.  You seem to have a harsh tone with calling out longevity and tenure.  Congratualtions to Vinny B at UD as well as Osty BVU/LOR being around for some period of time.

You direct a comment at regarding answering questions, if that is not one of the points of a message board then please pass the memo.

Doesn't Lynard Skynard say it best when he says "Sweet Home Alabama"
"If Rome was built in a day, then we would have hired their contractor"
