Yay!!!

I am on about 3 or 4 other boards that give out karma or rep or other similar stuff.  On those boards it never becomes an issue because it is very seldom you ever lose any.  You actually don't get +k all that often either but you get it regular enough.  But on those other boards you only get neg k when you are an extreme a-hole.  It's funny but it never is an issue on those boards because nobody loses k.  I never care about getting positive k but I used to get upset if I lost k because I would wonder what I did to offend someone.  Now after over a year on here I don't care about losing it either.

Now on to football.  I was thinking I could watch UD during their spring practice this year because of the webcam they have overlooking the football field.  But because of the construction going on plus eventually they will be replacing the grass field I'm guessing they won't be at that field and will spend all of spring practice on their practice field...oh well  >:(

Edit:  One thing I just thought of is on the other message boards it shows you who gave you positive and negative karma and they explain why they gave you +/- k.  Maybe if giving and taking k was not an anonymous thing posters on here would not see theirs going up and down so much.  Or we could just do without it altogether!!!

Purple Heys

I suppose I would give up the K giving/taking thing in exchange for an automatic spell checker.

That would then give some folks no reason to post!

Then we could get back to talking about some FOOTBALL (and superior San Diego weather)

;)

So Purple...any word yet on next years football schedule???

It's down to just the Cornell and Loras schedules we don't know about.

Home to Grinnell and away to LaVerne I would think would make you happy  ;)

Oh yeah, got an interview set up with Coe yet???  :D

So far Coe's only offering Count Chocula and Frankenberries.  I'm holding out for more Crunchberries.

On the surface Grinnell and @ LaVerne (for the opportunity for the whole Heys clan to see Jr. play) would be OK...but...

In relative terms, I would say a bit of a step down competively from Alma and Northwestern.  Now I'm all for getting some wins, and stepping UP our non-league schedule might be a tad inadvisable considering our lack of success in league play.

I have a bit of confidence that this year the Rams can register an IIAC win or, dare to dream, 2 or 3.

So I would not be altogether unhappy to play our placement counterpart from the MIAC and maybe Grinnell just for old times sake (and the improved chance of not going winless)...rather than the last place WIAC team

This is not a dig at the Pioneers, but I think it's fair to say they are struggling near the bottom of an overall weaker league, so in relative terms, my opinion is that the Rams would be favored in a contest.

Congrats to BV for puttin' up and scheduling UW-Platteville in '08.

If I recall, Plateville runs a very wide open offense, and has had some success of recent.  Lets hope its not a blood bath.

I hope the Coe hire gets half the d3football play that Wabash did. But it won't. And that's ok.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

That would be a +100 karma story if available.

I do remember plenty of Central fans lined up along that fence talked smack as we walked by, but I must have gotten by the lady before she jumped in the path.

If I recall correctly, one of your favorite Valley tackles paved the way to the endzone for me once. :)

Show....Sad to say that with him being a 3 year starter, that might have been the best thing that he ever did.  That or give us something to laugh about with constant life altering injuries or 1000 questions about a dive play against the 4-3.

That or the morning meeting when he asked osty what does "COE" mean.  Osty says "What".  He says coach you wrote "COE" on my grade sheet.  Osty says sorry my writting is sloppy it was supposed to be "LOE" or lack of effort.  Now did you really want to know what that meant?

Wow, I got a laugh out of that one.  I'd forgotten all about it until you brought it up.  My favorite moment of ridiculing that guy was when he walked into Thursday noon meetings and said "Wow, I ate so much at lunch.  I feel like crap."  Then Hobart, without missing a beat says, "What's the deal, you tried to keep up with the old lady?"  Needless to say, "Tiger" wasn't happy to hear that.  Apparently until that point he hadn't figured out why we called her  "The Fullback."

Looking outside at all the snow that is coming down got me thinking about weather extremes.

What is the coldest game you can remember playing in or attending?
At Coe in 2003.  It was cold and there had been rain and it was overall a miserable day to play football.

What is the hottest game you can remember playing in or attending?
This would have to be Gustavus in 2003.  I did not get to play in this game, thus I was hurt.  But I do recall it being down right terrible.

Worst field conditions snow?
Luther in 2003.  We were playing up there and it went from rain to snow and then back to rain.

Worst field condition rain/mud?
Coe in 2003.  You were covered in mud after warm ups.  We did beat them that day, so it made it that much better.  I do recall tackeling one their d lineman on a FG attempt due to loss of footing.  No call on that one, I believe most would call that getting away with murder.

Ever not able to make it to a game?
NO
Worst road trip experiance?
The worst road trip experiece would have to be going over to Luther.  Nothing extreemly bad happened but it always took so long, and my first trip I had to ride on the short but with no tv's.  So needless to say you mind found some interesting things to think about.

Best road trip experiance?  (and that probably shouldn't include any stories about catholic high school girls or cheerleaders)
Best road trip would have to be coming home from Central in 2003.  We played them at Souteast Polk High School because the week before the ruined their field due to rain.  We beat them for the first time in 30 some years.  The ride back was a nut show.  I do recall one person making a bold statment that they did make happen later night.

Let's hear some good stories.

I remember that trip to Luther.  It was my first time travelling and I believe I sat right next to you.  We had the wheel seat on the short bus, no TVs, and Weakland was sitting right across the aisle telling us his awesome stories for five hours.  I think that was the only time I ever thought eating at Old Country Buffet was the highlight of a road trip.

I remember hearing about that after the fact.  She is a bute and now that they are getting married lets hope the kids have her mentallity and his size.  That actually might make a decent football player :o

Your memory did not miss a beat.  I can not remember who brought the adult videos on the bus thay day but I know they were present.  Weakland started analizing those as if it was game film.  I think the bus driver was less than impressed.  I do remember it getting a little vocal.

Weakland was good for one thing, shaking hands after games.  I never saw a parrent who did not like him, never saw a player who liked playing for him.  If there was a position as professional greeter, Weak would have been the best.  Oh wait there is that position, its called Wal-Mart!

OK, I don't usually jump in the spelling stuff, but "ANALizing adult videos"  priceless.  Leno would love it.

Love the stories though, that why I sit hear reading this stuff instead of working.

Onto the worst conditions questions - Central Bethel 07 will go down in infamy as it were.  I have no idea why I sat through the whole thing!

Worst road trip - Central at William Penn 1976 I think.  We got pounded like 42-6 - Schip was LIVID.  I've never seen a Wart-Luther rivalry game but they can't beat the animosity between the Dutch and Billy Ball Point.  15 miles apart geographically - worlds apart otherwise.

Worst mud game I've witnessed was the Central/Augustana game in 03 (Leading to the disaster vs BV at SEP the next home game).  It seems the game was all played on the same stretch of field just north of the 50 - because as soon as an offense got in there they never got out.

worst rain game I played in was at Storm Lake in 78, If I recall correctly the rain was coming in horizontally at our back though, must have been terrible on the home sideline.

Second to the Bethel 07 cold and rain would have been Playoffs in '77  the ice buildup on the helmets made the 19-0 loss seem like it would never end.

As a spectator, wasn't there a nasty mud game at COE with Wartburg a couple years back (05?)?  I think the Dutch played there a couple weeks later and the field was still crap.  As far as a mud game goes, does frozen mud count? In HS we played a bad one on our practice/game field one week (no grass left!), with a cold front moving in, and the next week the footprints and and other remnants of that game were frozen into the mud, made some terrible ankle monsters out there.
