Thumbs up to footballdaddy with The Boss. I've seen a handful of shows since Born in the USA, and loved them all. Going next month in St. Paul. The best was the Vote for Change concert in St. Paul -- Springsteen and the band, REM, John Fogerty, Neil Young. Wow! Great show and a worthy cause.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

No way Staker or Atwater gets the job.  Atwater got passed over for the D-Coordinator job last time it came up, why would Chandlor thinks he's a better fit for the head job?  Staker won't want it.  He won't put Coe in the position that they will need to rehire a coach in 3-5 years, if he even makes it that long.  He works better behind the scenes anyways.  There could be talk of Mike Magestrelli (sp?) former Coe D-coordinator, quarterback, and current St. Ambrose head coach.  Would he want to come back to IIAC, or stay where he is?  He would probably want to get back into the NCAA.   The guy from UWW should be considered.  He hasn't had any head coaching experience, but the last head coach that Coe hired had no head coaching experience and was the O-Coordinator at a previous national championship team.

Um, Zebrowski was head coach at Lakeland year before last.

Took 'em to the playoffs and was on hot coaches lists and won awards.

Just FYI, not to sound like dude's PR flack or to pretend those accolades are more than they are.

But Mount Union and UWW connections bode pretty well, esp. for Coe since he might be able to recruit Wisconsin along with Iowa. When you're a pretty tough-to-get-into-school as it is (i.e. most of D3) you need as many connections to cover as much ground as you can, to find the rare student + athlete.

K-Mack,

I want to respond to you first.  Coe football under Raeburn has forced the recent conversation about conference power to change from the "top two" to the "top three" (Central, Wartburg and Coe).  There is little more that he could have done at Coe besides go deeper into the playoffs.

Now, that being said, I firmly believe that until Coe makes a committment to improving their facilities to keep up with the rest of the conference and the country, it is going to be hard for them to continue to retain their top coaches.  Improvements have been made recently (field turf, basketball renovations, baseball field) but they are not close in regards to extra immenities facilities-wise.

I am sure the money is an upgrade and the prestige is a small upgrade as well.  The anual "is he going to leave?" question is something that I will not miss, even if it wasn't a reality.  But, as a football mind, Coe is losing a pretty solid coach.

In comparing the two schools, Wabash gets the nod in almost every category.  And, like most things, it all starts with money.  Wabash's endowment is $367,683,478.  Compare that to Coe with has an endowment of $76,803,235 and the numbers are staggering.  Wabash is listed as the #52 liberal arts college in the country compared to Coe which is #106 according to USNews and World Report.  One thing that is an easy transition for Raeburn as a recruiter is that he will be recruiting the same kind of kid.  Academic profiles of Wabash students and Coe students are pretty simliar.  Both schools require smart, well-rounded kids that are also gifted athletically.

Finally, the community and school support for athletics is something that Coe struggles with.  Being in Cedar Rapids, they are not always embraced by the communty and students seem to prefer go to the Iowa games than Coe games.  This is a shame, but it is also a reality.  A new coach should bring at least a sense to renewed excitement to the campus and surrounding area.

If you have any further questions feel free to ask.  I always love talking about football, the IIAC and Coe College.

That's pretty helpful, especially to help contrast with the impression I got of the school when I was there.

Sorry, I didn't realize til now you guys have added 15 pages of discussion since I last visited. Some boards are still on the same page as they were last month due to the offseason :)

Figured someone would have mentioned it though. I only skimmed a bit.

TME,Klop, and SK  all bring outstanding points to this discussion.

This has been some pretty solid off-season reading all-around.

So are there even any rumors on the Koe Kampus or is it pretty much a given that Staker is taking over?
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Yep, Sly is back, that should help out the "D" quite a bit.

Two of our top prospects are deciding between BV and Central I believe.  They both fit the position needs for BV and in my opinion, would probably be 4 year starters.  Another one of our guys is going to try out Northwest Missouri State I think.  Another one may go the wrestling route instead of football.

Hopefully I'm going to make it up to campus next weekend and check in with Larry and see how it's going.

Interesting.  Let me know if you find out anything.  I hope they are reeling in some good ones.

TME, Prince Bussie finished up his career in 2006!!!  Winning at Wartburg!!!

That score must be a popular one up there in Waverly ;D ;D ;D ;D

Of course I will say the Knights as an early pick for the title next year....however I really see Central back at the top as well.  Last year was HUGE for the Dutch.  Even with losing one of the best QB's in D3 (I'm sure some other folks on here would agree with me) and many other seniors, the playoff experiences and how far they went into post season is a huge advantage.  Those younger guys can see what needs to be done to be successful.  They see how hard and what you need to work on to make it past teams like St. John's.  I see a typical IIAC year with Central and Wartburg battling for the one spot.

Luther will have some trouble with their loss at RB.  And I predict a IIAC win for Cornell this year.  Coe has the team and experience to do great things as well...all depends on the coach and the attitude he brings to the team.

B.O.Y. -thanks for an off topic discussion starter.  I needed something to keep me occupied from work for awhile.  Here is my list of concerts.

#5 Motley Crue at the La Crosse Center - Cheap ticket, cheap beer (sort of), and lots of Tommy Cam (later learn a former co-worker was one of the gals who refused to take part in T. Lee's shenanigans)

#4 Eddie Money at the Delaware County Fair - All the beer and food you can eat and drink while listening to hits like "Take Me Home Tonight" and "Shakin" makes for one hell of a good bachelor party for a college friend.  This concert was my new definition of "Two Tickets to Paradise"

#3 Dazy Head Mazy at Buster's in Mankato, Blackhorse in Winona, and Loon's in La Crosse - A local band from Minneapolis.  Lot's of fun.  Super Cheap.  And they love to interact with the crowd (been up on stage a few times)

#2 Ozzfest 2001 at Somerset, WI - First MAJOR big concert I ever went to.  $40 and I got to see some big names like Slipknot, Papa Roach, Drowning Pool, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Mudvayne, and of course Black Sabbath/Ozzy

#1 Rush at Xcel Engery Center - I always said I can not die until I see Neil Peart in person...I can officially die now.  Seats were off to the side, but it just gave us a better view of the drummer.  Klop, you will have an AMAZING time...I would recommend this concert to all.

A few honorable mentions...Weird Al (first concert ever-kind of geeky, nerdy, but still a lot of fun), Prince (newer big band sound, sold all his rights to the classics so those were all accoustic...plus Morris Day and the Time opened), Skid Row, Vince Neil, and Poison (really got me into 80's rock)

i figured he did, just seemed like he was one of those guys that was around for ever... just making a joke.

as for Coe, I talked to a couple of coaches late last week, and there doesn't seem to be any new knews on who they are talking to.  all this crappy weather probably deters from getting guys in to talk to the team and get interviewed and so on.

hopefully St. Olaf and Coe won't be competing for the same coach.  I fear that the Owls will be hard to compete with.

I was at these, too. Fun stuff!

I've also seen Bon Jovi in Des Moines, Def Leppard/Journey in Ames, Poison/Dokken/Quiet Riot/an odd GNR cover band at Waterstock in Des Moines a couple of years ago, Nickleback in Des Moines -- the stage show was awesome!, and several other shows. I had tickets to Van Halen this last week, but darn it, I was in AZ and had to give them away.

It really helps to have a friend that works at Ticketmaster.  ;D
