Setting at home recoving from surgury and trying to catch up on all the posts from the last week. Jokes were funny but had to stop reading them it hurt ot laught.
Muscle car 1967 Chevy 396 with two 4 barrels.  Prom night took off form stoplights in town and was at 130 mph and climbing  thought I was a pretty big deal under the red lights came on the car behind me. Not a good prom night. For some reason the cop had no sense of humor.

Now this is a fun conversation. I haven't had any muscle cars myself, but one of my HS boyfriends had a Ford Mustang, a la "Eleanor" from Gone in 60 Seconds. It was a very hot car! I have another HS friend that collects Stingray Corvettes (and yep, that's Corvettes -- plural. He has several.)

As soon as his kids can drive, he will be forced to sell them because insurance is too expensive. :'(

The closest thing to a classic car that I've ever owned was probably me 93 Sunbird.

I hear that Sunbird is still sought after by many collectors.

Doubt that seriously.  Got the car the weekend after I turned 16 and had it until early April of my soph year at Wartburg, when I hit a patch of black ice and put it in the rhubarb.  Rolled it, actually.  Last I knew one of my cousins had taken most of the body off of it and turned it into a racecar for some special 4-cylinder only series at the Farley Speedway.

It was a decent little car, but looking back its amazing what I put up with at 16 that I wouldn't now.  No cruise, no power windows, no CD player, and only two wiper settings.  At that point, it was all about getting from Point A to Point B.

Glad to see you back! I hope everything went well with the surgery.
Sorry about the jokes, I hope you didn't pop anything!

I suppose your early interaction with the police is what pushed you into law enforcement!  ;D

Now that we've heard from the "muscle car" crowd ... what about any former or current sports car folk out there?

From '68 - '71 (when I went back to grad school) ... I had a 1964 Porsche 356c.  Togo brown exterior, dark green leather interior.  Belonged to the Dubuque contingent of the Chicago Region PCA and had great fun at rallys and gymkhanas.  Got to drive every Fall on the track at Road America/Elkart Lake, Wisconsin ... went to driving school at Blackhawk Farm Raceway, Rockton, Illinois ... and blew the engine in western Iowa driving back from a Nebraska football game.  Wife and I were DINKS (dual income, no kids) in those days so that made it possible.  After the Porsche, the closest I ever came to great speed was a Suzuki motorcycle.  Those were the days.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

When I graduated fron tech school in Arizona, me and a buddy went to SoCal in his 1974 Jensen-Healey. Kinda homely but ran good wth the Lotus engine. Later in life I worked at an import auto parts store and later at a BMW, Jag, Mercedes and Volvo dealer. I got to see alot of high maintence cars and higher maintence wives!

I took a look at the IIAC website and got some info on conference football championships.  I have noticed that Coe and Dubuque claim more titles than the IIAC gives them credit.  I am thinking those were IIAA titles from the teens and early 20's and the IIAC formed in 1923.  Anyway...here goes...

Central - 29 titles, first in 1939 last in 2007
Simpson - 12 titles, first in 1923 last in 1997
Luther - 11 titles, first in 1932 last in 1978
Wartburg - 10 titles, first in 1958 last in 2004
Dubuque - 6 titles, first in 1940 last in 1980
Parsons - 6 titles, first in 1926 last in 1962
Upper Iowa - 5 titles, first in 1937 last in 1964
Buena Vista - 4 titles, first in 1952 last in 1978
William Penn - 4 titles, first in 1931 last in 1976
Coe - 3 titles, first in 2002 last in 2005
Iowa Wesleyan - 3 titles, first in 1929 last in 1953
UNI - 2 titles in 1927 and 1928
St. Ambrose - 2 titles in 1950 and 1951
Loras - 0 titles
Cornell - 0 titles

Speaking of muscle cars. My '92 Dakota had plenty of giddy'up in HS and the Quad cab made the chicks melt when I showed them the window that opened to the bed.  :P

I still drive a Dodge, Grand Caravan that is.  :'(

That's funny, I don't remember the girls flocking to the truck when YOU drove it.  However, I did hear after the Dakota got passed on to your little brother he was the talk of the town!

Purple what number did your son wear?  Didn't have a program but watched the Cornell game last night and tried to figure out who he was I am guessing #12.

Having Wartburg so early in the seaon this next year for both teams may be a blessing.  The loser of that game may be able to play their way back into the playoffs if they can run the table.  What does every one else think of that?

I can no longer find the explanation on Coe's web site, but the Kohawks also won championships with something known as the Iowa Conference in 1906, 1913, 1914 and 1916.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Doolittle,

sounds like you are giving it your all to get to Redlands.  I think you should keep trying.  Maybe you can wear your wife down with a multitude of ideas and she will give in.
