Coe news...
From what I can gather, another offer has been made to an up-and-comer who is now a GA at Iowa and a Coe Alum. Has a coaching pedigree...Has until tomorrow to accept.
Coe going the young route again as he is under 30. Wasn't Raeburn under 30 as well when he took the job. That seemed to work out alright.

I was informed Tuesday that it was down to two coaches. One was a fairly established coach in d3. I also heard the process may have taken longer because a candidate applied in the later stages of the search. I would assume a decision will be made tomorrow or early next week

BV's large endowment numbers are a product of the Siebens family.  If anyone hasnt noticed while touring the campus.  They have there name on the school of business, fine arts, science, the fieldhouse (along with another), the American Heritage Lecture Serries, and I am sure I am missing something.

The folk lore that I heard was that he donated all this money to the school, under the terms that he name would not be released until he died.  So there were a number of years that no one knew who this person was.

It is my understanding after his death BV turned around and named almost everything after him.  They should have just changed the name of the university completely.  Harold Water Sieben University, or Siebens College.  That has a nice ring to it.

I believe that the source of his wealth was from some type of invention, or inventions.  There is also another large donor by the name of Lamberti who gave a ton of money to see the fieldhouse built.  His grandaughter was a student at BV during my tenure.  I am sure she no issues with the top management  ;D

Here's a link to the story of Harold W. Siebens:

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=950DEEDB1E3AF930A35751C0A96F948260

A google search revealed that he also has buildings at the Mayo Clinic and Washington University named in his honor.  I believe the Siebens family has donated well above $30 million to BV.  In today's dollars, the total would be much more.

Don Lamberti (the guy in the huge painting in the rec center) is the founder of Casey's.  Marissa ended up transferring to Drake after a couple years.  I remember her telling me she had almost a full ride because of her grandfather's donation, but I suppose a full ride doesn't mean as much when you're already that loaded.

Thanks for that link.  That was an interesting read.

An interesting thought just struck me.  I don't know if you've seen "There Will Be Blood," but the kid's name in the movie was H.W.  Perhaps his real name was Harold Walter.  After all, our H.W. was an oil man and born around the time the movie took place.  Just a random thought.

Also, H.W.'s last name in the movie was Plainview.  Buena Vista means "good view" in Spanish (cue "Twilight Zone" music).  Coincidence?  I think not.

In Spanish, it's pronounced Bwayna Veesta.

In Iowa it's pronounced Beyoona Vista

It always cracks me up to hear youse Midwesterners attempt some of the Spanish names.

Other ones for fun La Jolla pronounced phonetically where it is correctly pronounced to rhyme with the Georgtown mascot, Hoya.  Jaime pronounced Jay-mee instead of Hi-may.

My friend in Chicago can't even wrap his mind around Queretaro or Michoacan.   8)

Purple Heys, I just noticed BV has video of their game against Cornell on their website, you can down load the 1st and 2nd halves.  Here is the link... http://www2.bvu.edu/athletics/broadcast/

Sweet, I'm gonna use my advanced engineering skills to have Cornell win this time.

That is very spooky.  I am going to have to look into that a little further, or watch the movie.  I can see the logic though.

If you remember have Smitty tell you the his story from the Siebens Den tour at Johnny Broadshoulders wedding.  Its makes you think that Harold still walks the halls of the forum.

The IIAC could pay $500 or whatever amount to bring in a PBP guy and then the home school of the broadcast could handle the production...cameras, color guy, halftime interview stuff like that.

This is a decent idea in theory, but in reality, it would only work at about 1/3 of the schools in the league.  Wartburg, Loras, and BV are about the only schools that would have the equipment necessary to pull it off.  That said, I think Mediacom would do well to cover more IIAC stuff.  I think they aired a Simpson-Central game a couple years back (might have been the 100th meeting or something like that).  I don't know that they'd need to do a game every week, since they show a lot of UNI and Iowa State games that aren't on regular TV in Iowa.

Mediacom does a weekly game in the CIML

They do 2 games a week. One in the eastern half of the state and one in the western. With the exception of our game with Valley one of these last couple years, they are taped, and shown the next day.

The Central game with Simpson was tape delay that saturday too.  They could do a game of the week and show it in the evenings.  I would think they might get the rest of the IIAC followers to watch.  Say an 8 o'clock air time most teams would be home by then and the fans would be as well.  Then all the IIAC faithful could watch the game of the week.

I agree -- it would be nice to see more IIAC coverage on TV.

Screw it...let's start up the Iowa Conference Network...and then demand we be shown on basic cable...not the sports tiered package  ;D

and schools can use some of their huge endowment to pay for it.
but how to decide what game gets played live, regional coverage?
