we can just make it like nfl network, so you could watch every game at the same time.

Have the IIAC network and then an alternate channel for gameday.
2 games start at 11 and 2 games start at 2:30. Problem solved.
The rest of the time is covered with sports shows produced by students of schools with TV stations. Who cares if there are re-runs. Put it on cable access channels of areas of the state with IIAC institutions. Make it totally student-run and that would cut the costs a ton. It wouldn't have to be a money maker.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

What about Fox Sports Midwest.  They play a lot of the college events in MN.

The only problem that I see with airing a game at 8pm on a Saturday is competing with the D1 game of the week.

I would assume that most of us are football fan in general.  I myself follow BV, but I am huge Hawkeye fan.  Now since you would not be competing with the national viewing audience, this might not be an issues.

This would be a good step to get the IIAC more coverage, and get kids thinking about it before December of the senior year when they are meeting a coach for the first time.

this is true, but would a high school kid rather watch the hawks, or the kohawks on any given saturday.  there would have to be "hype" about certain games, say with conference championship stakes on the line or something, the week before the game.  this in tune would garner more publicity for colleges, and you could have the iiac commercials during the week (like the major conference commercials) to get people aware of the conference and schools.  they could do one player from each school putting on their uniforms or helmet (also like the big 10 football commercial)

this would not only be good way for people to watch the games (ahem, guys with wives and kids that can't get to the game), but it would be great publicity for the conference/schools.

On some Saturdays they would probably watch IIAC . With the new tivos lots of people would watch the games later

I think from a cost perspective you could do it on the cheap.  The main advantage I see to this is getting the Iowa Conference into peoples minds.  They might still be watching D1 football but they are seeing commercials for the conference and from time to time they will check out the games, especially high school kids getting ready to make their college choices.  Added exposure will get papers and tv stations mentioning the conference schools more often.

It's one thing to offer viewing from the schools websites.  The people watching that will be alums of the school.  Getting the conference into peoples minds will be things like games on TV and other marketing ideas like a rivalry week.  Do things like that and BV won't be losing recruits to NAIA schools.  Marketing marketing marketing!!!

I would also refer to the conference as the Iowa Conference and not the IIAC...get it out there that it's the states conference...not just a jumble of letters.

My son played on a game in HS on mediacom it was nice to go back and listen and watch it later> Same way for college it would promote the IIAC and the individual schools.

Good points.  What about this senario.  Lets tape the games and then play them on a Tuesday night?

You would not be competing with the Hawkeyes or Cyclowns.  Plus who wants to watch an old episode of Friends on TBS, when you can watch IIAC football ;D

I like the idea about doing the commercials like the Big Ten does.  Those could be played during the games.

I know this is all pie in the sky, but it could be a pretty cool deal!

that would be great internship oppertunities for pr, marketing, broadcasting, journalism, or film majors to do all the editing and color calls for the games after the cut and spliced the games up to air later in the week.  sure you would know what happened, but it would be cool to see it happen.,

It really isn't such a crazy idea.

About 4 months ago I took a new job as a remote production director for a local cable company in Winona, MN.  Mainly, we sell cable, internet, and telephone services to Winona and surrounding communities.  Our main competitor is Charter who is nation wide.  However we set ourselves apart by having Local Origination programming with the most widely watched being Winona State sporting events and local high school sporting events (we also producing parades and summer music concerts and graduations, etc.)  We cover all the home Winona State football games and basketball games.  We cover one of each of the area high school football games and two boys and two girls basketball games in the winter.  We also cover a couple of men's and women's St. Mary's basketball and hockey games.  We are constantly looking to expand as well on all of this.

So the idea of an IIAC network might be a bit bigger than what I do...but if a cable company in Dubuque wanted to they could start covering UD and Loras games.  As well as a handful of local high schools.  Cedar Rapids cable company would have Coe and Kirkwood.  A Waterloo/CF cable company would have UNI and Wartburg.  Just some possibilities.

And MEdiacom Central & Simpson that will not happen

The Show

This is a smaller scale than that, but still effective:

Jefferson, IA (pop. 4700) runs the same setup as 89.1 was talking about for Winona.  Our telephone company runs everything: cable, phone, internet. They were losing quite a few cable subscribers to dish, so went in with the school and now host a pair of local channels, one is your basic local access station that runs local ads, has the local weather as the background noise, etc. and the other channel is dedicated to just the school. We run "slides" of sports calendars, building events...just about everything.  We also broadcast all of the school's concerts, gradution, prom grand march, football, basketball, wrestling, and some baseball games. A local guy and a teacher do the majority of the play-by-play.  Pretty cool deal for a small, rural town.

I know a lot of the elderly people in town (which is a lot) really enjoy it so they don't have to go out in the winter to see sporting events or concerts.

So if somehow we could show enough demand, it would be possible...

Let me bring one point out here.  I used to be a big Hawk fan.  Before the days of watching my son play at Central.  With all of the troubles that the Hawks have had and since ISU canned a good man that had done tons for that program I could care less about watching them.  The big reason I said 8PM was that all the traveling would be completed by the IIAC schools and the game of the week could be watched by all the conference schools.  It would not affect the gate receipts being a delayed broadcast and it still is out there to promote D3.  I think that ratings would be good for a game of the week as opposed to 4 games a weekend.  It may attract enough advertising money to get a game of the week on Mediacom.  The ideas about the whole conference would be fun but how would that affect the budgets of the schools.  Why would BV travel to UD/Loras/Luther and those three schools travel to BV.  I think that would hurt the gate.  If the games are delayed there is no loss of revenue for the programs.

I understand what you are saying in regards to the gate, but I think its a non issue.  In my 4 years, nobody really ever brough much of an away crowd.  Central and Wartburg were the best.  It was all parrents anyways.  The Storm Lake faithful will come out, so it would not effect BV's gate.

Unless there are a lot of chips on the line, or the Central v. Wartburg game, our teams are not seeing 15,000 spectators on a regular basis if ever.  The loyatly all of our schools have, will override this.  If UD and BV are playing for the conference crown next year on the last game of the season, nobody is going to wait around for the tape delay.  They will make the trek to Dubuque or vice versa.
